- I have been a fan of this musical from the very start and wished I could have seen it on Broadway. Alas the show closed early, disappointing many many people. This video was inspired by the 'release lestat' campaign that has been created by fans online. I hope that this short video will show people that this show is worth listening to, and a soundtrack cd would be money well spent! The time for making changes would've come when they revised it between the SF and NYC runs, as well as during the preview period in NYC (March 25 until opening night on April 25...they even pushed those dates back to allow more time for revisions). After it premiered in April, the revisions were locked in place.
My partner and I saw the musical on the very last weekend of its run in New York City. I have read all the books and he, although isn't a particular fan of vampires, enjoyed the show and the music. I have been waiting for so long for the release of the CD!

i really wanted to go see this when i was in new york but by the time we got there it was gone and we were only in new york for 3 days so we didn't have enough time anyway *sob*
it's a shame it closed within a month i wanted to see it but never had the money! =(

Saw this when it pre-showed in San Francisco...It was good, but needed some work. I wish they'd spent some more time working with it.

That's the last straw. So they won't put the show back out on broadway or release the CD. I say we fans should take it into our own hands, find the musical rights, and find ways to perform it OFF broadway! That'd show 'em!

I saw the show on BWAY. The music & lyric was outstanding. some of the best that Elton John has written in a long time, The set, lighting and costumes were also outstanding. The problem was that the script totally sucked. hen I attended the performance there were only 14 people in the balcony. I really hope that the recording gets released. I knew one of the actors in the show and they told me that Elton even hated it... To the point were he would not even talk about it to the creative staff.

Yes, Dance of the Vampires is great!!! Why was it a flop in America? It's pretty big in Europe(isn't it?)!! I mean, I loved it, it was hilarious!!! And it had a standing ovation!! (But if you're looking for the wonderful, enchanting Anne Rice-ian atmosphere, you won't get it there :) It's Roman Polanski atmosphere! hehe..)

Hmm, perhaps it wasn't released because Elton John wanted to wait until he needed more money? Or until musicals became more popular again?
I dont understand how Elton John can think so highly of it himself and yet he wont release it, what a bitch. IM so pissed i never got a chance to see it, and I live in NJ, a train ride away from the city. It seems like they filmed the performance(s) too, why notrelease that as well?

It was a horrible show. Some really fantastic performances (including Carolee Carmello), but not a good production at all. I'm glad I saw it to some fine performances. I was really surprised that they went through all the rewrites after it was panned in SF and people still put money into it. Sigh. A cast recording would be great though!

Still a crap play.
the reason this wasn't released was because it was awful! The music was trite, the whole thing was awful. The cast worked very hard, sure, but it was very bad. I was there the night Elton John was there and even he knows that it was bad!
Sorry to say it, but this play was a complete flop at the box office. I saw it, and found the music a little labouring.... no real passion beyond the grand vocals. I also wasn't too impressed at the way Elton and co made Lestat their own. Next we'll be seeing Lestat in a Gay prode rally.
