Thanks for keeping it real guys. The good the bad and the ugly, it’s all here. That’s how we all learn and improve, together!! Interesting result and definitely some key points to consider if trying it again. Beer looked super spot on for a New England hazy by the way. Ok then, cheers from Uxbridge.
I did this recently with a no sparge Wee Heavy (1.098, 9.7% bottle conditioned), second runnings brown Saison( 1.056, 6.8% in the keg). Used two mash tuns with a total of 18.8 kilograms of grain. With two boilers I had two beers in the fermenters in less than 6 hours. I am happy.
Have done three of these and have always loved them. With our home-brew group we did 35 gallons of a barleywine and then ten gallons of a partigyle...malty and very drinkable at about 5% with a little added DME.
Great addition to the "knowledge base." Thanks! I have had good success with starting with enough grain for the two beers at my usual efficiency, but I have been known to make random hybrid beers out of whatever wort is around. Entertaining even if the beer isn't perfect.
Sounds like one of my reviews of Fall Brewing. They make some of the most amazing smelling IPAs but I have yet to find a single one that delivers the advertised flavor or body. It must work because I keep buying new releases from them mostly in the hopes that sooner r later they are going to hit the brewing jackpot.
Have either of you two used serebrinka hops/ silver hops in anything. Our brew club has a hop grower in our club and he gave us 8oz of it to make something by July.
OMG. I had to go back and watch it. I guess I never noticed and I can't remember if there were two shutters at one point. You see that scenario a lot around here. Its like you know you could have put that window just one stud over to avoid that. Details man, details. Cheers! -Mike
Thanks for the video. I've read about second running parti-gyle style but never seen anyone brew it. Sounds like it might be a candidate for a summer session beer. Are there any other styles that would render a good base for this style?
I made a Belgium strong ale and decided to see what could get out of doing a second running and ended up with a 20 bottles of a 4.6% Belgium smash and it was really good! I guess I got lucky!
I think Cosmic Punch, being “thiolized”, delivers more extra aroma than extra flavor. Just in my limited experience. Looking forward to brewing with it again. If this weekend’s fruit-forward IPA with LA3 turns out well, I’ll repeat it with Cosmic Punch for comparison.
Pop-up camper-side home brew videos...ah...the good ol' days! Count my vote for a sequel. The camper-side home-brew video...not the virus.
Yes - the camper videos!
Yes moar camper videos are a must. Love the vids guys. Cheers
Maybe we can do one before it gets too cold around here. - John
Interesting video as ever.............great Larry David impression as an added bonus :)
Many thanks!
pretty, pretty, pretty good
Nice!

That's great, Barry!
Good stuff. Great experiment 👍
Thanks Curt!
Looks tasty

Nice!
Love table beers. Never attempted partigyle. But I am planning my winter warmer, so that would be a good beer for it.
That's a good plan!

Sometimes, it's all about the entertainment. Thanks for the comment, Janet! - John
Thanks for the video. Right now cosmic Punch is my favorite yeast when making hazy beers.
I like that strain too. I have a packet in my fridge ready to go!
You could always freeze the excess wort and use it for starters?
Yeah, that's a good idea. I need more freezer space though.

I wonder if flavor is being sacrificed for aroma. Meaning, there's only so many flavor molecules to go around right? Cheers! -Mike

We haven't brewed with Serebrinka hops before. Hope they're great!
The single fake shutter on your neighbour’s house is driving me crazy haha

That's comical haha
What was the hopping schedule and amounts? Just curious.

I was thinking Barley Wine and then Pale Ale...
I made a Belgium strong ale and decided to see what could get out of doing a second running and ended up with a 20 bottles of a 4.6% Belgium smash and it was really good! I guess I got lucky!
You gotta love when that happens. Cheers! - John
I loved the camper videos! Thats how I «met» ya ;-)
We're happy to bring them back every once in a while.

Nice - I have the same thoughts about Cosmic Punch too!
If you wanted to increase body or ABV DME could be your friend as well
That is true!
Bring the camper back...
Maybe we'll do a video in front of it this fall. - John
