I am so glad someone finally reacted to this song. This is one of the most beautiful songs the Carpenters ever recorded. The piano, the flute and Karen's beautiful voice. Richard is so good at arranging music and he is so good on the piano. Bob Messenger played bass, sax and flute for the band and I think he deserves recognition for his excellent musicianship. Karen's voice... need I say more? Great reaction, you really got this one right!
@@hardtime63 Another less heard song by them you might like is Leave Yesterday Behind. A mellow tune and her voice is so nice in the lower part of her range.
Whenever a great artist passes prematurely you are left to wonder how much more great music they would have gone on to create. Another example is Jim Croce. RIP TO THEM BOTH.
They could have opted for a sax...but the flute fits perfectly...I bet Ian Anderson likes this., I know that in a Moody Blues interview he expressed a desire to play the flute solo in Nights In White Satin...and, behold,he did, a few years ago! Anyway, coming back to this beautiful Carpenters’ number, It’ very difficult to pick fault with this (from 1977?). This backing group have moulded themselves extremely well, which leads me to put in a request for another song...Goodbye To Love...if you haven’t reacted to it already. The fuzz guitar licks in it(!) works perfectly!
I used to go to a pub in the 70's.It had a "Juke Box", were the whole day "Masquerade" would play, as everytime someone would put a coin in the machine to play the same song over and over and no one complained.
Great reaction, not only does this song have the great Karen and Richard Carpenter, but it has great lyrics and beautiful music! Thank you for this reaction. This is one of my favorite songs, as you said, I have heard in a long time!
The Carpenters were a phenomenal duo. But...credit should be given to Leon Russell, who penned this song. He also wrote "Superstar". He was an influencial artist whose talent and musicianship was revered his fans and peers. Listen to his version of the song: ua-cam.com/video/tn-br0h4rZk/v-deo.html
up next by the carpenters that you haven't done yet, how about "solitaire", "only yesterday", "bless the beasts and the children" and the last song she ever recorded " Now"....
Richard Carpenter deserves a lot of credit. He was the main arranger for The Carpenters. But her voice is outstanding. Credit also to Leon Russell. The song writer.
I just love 💕 your reaction to this song! I just love 💕 the Carpenters and their music.I just love 💕 this song! The whole package, from Karen 's singing,to the music fantastic! This is a perfect song!!!!🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I've always felt Karen's voice fit best in jazzy songs like "this masquerade" and "a song for you". Regardless, she can sing any music genre beautifully.
Another song with a similar approach is 'A song for you' by the same author. Richard expresses his passion for jazz and Karen shows the world has jazz is supposed to be sung.
Agree! This is also my favorite Carpenter's song. If you guys like the music arrangement, then you guys must like jazz music. It's very jazzy, and I happen to like jazz music. You may want to react to Ikanaide by Dimash Qudaibergen. I think you're going to like that one too.
The Carpenters loved the music of singer/songwriter the late Leon Russell. This Leon Russell masterpiece was performed beautifully and hauntingly by one of the greatest voices ever in music history...The late great Karen Carpenter. The arrangement to this beautiful track was done by her brother Richard Carpenter whos arrangement is so beautifully crafted. I prefer their version of this song to all others. Great reaction to this masterpiece.
This is my favourite song of the Carpenters in which Karen shows her contralto talent with her incredible range. Check out “One more time”, “Boat to sail” and “Two sides”, all songs where Karen hits the lower range in a sublime manner!
That's what I'm talking about. Highest quality music, Richard Carpenter arrangements, instruments, vocals and of course her voice ... Karen Anne Carpenter with the ability to clean my ears of the world's horrible music. I love this lead Sister.
It was NO masquerade with Karen, she was the real deal & her voice was pure gold. There was nothing that she could not sing & this song has all it & the backing instruments which u r reacting to are extraordinary. You should purchase their Greatest Hits CD, it's fantastic or the latest release with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, you won't be disappointed.
Karen had a heavenly, unique voice and talent. This was a beautiful arrangement of a great Leon Russel song. His version of the song is worth listening to as well. If people are listening to music in 200 years, The Beatles songs like Beethoven and some of the other great composers will be at the top of the list.
Karen's voice was absolutely unique and none could hold a candle to her velvety soothing voice. This is just one of my favourite songs of the Carpenters. Lately I have discovered another female artist who is the closest resemblance of Karen's voice and tone that I never thought would be possible. I urge you to check her out. Her name is HARRIET and you should find her on UA-cam. Play her song called 'WHATS MINE IS YOURS and the lyrics could be a definite reference to Karen Carpenter herself. It is truly amazing. I would love to hear your reaction to it. I love your reaction videos so much. ua-cam.com/video/5ZfW7ib-2AE/v-deo.html
You two are wonderful reviewers. This Masquerade was written by Leon Russell in 1972 and released on Carpenter's album Now & Then in 1973. George Benson released it on his 1976 album for his first big hit. ref: dengenchronicles.com Reportedly, Mr. Russell stated that Karen sang the song the best. I agree. She was the best female vocalist of a lifetime.

Agree 100%
What a gorgeous track. Perfect arrangement, incredible piano and Karen just melts you.
Great piano playing by Richard Carpenter, his talent isn't always so starkly shown. Always up for some Karen :)
Karen.....one of the purest voices to walk this planet.
Love the artist, song and reaction. Isn't her voice unmatched? Incredible musicianship. Love, Love, Love it!
yes, the beauty of the Carpenters music really transcends all our boundaries.
So unobtrusive, with an exuberance of fine quality., this could be heard in a hotel lounge in the 1970s...so relaxing.
Thank you for that. I've always described her voice as having a transcendental beauty.
Leon Russell, from my city, wrote & recorded this Carpenters cover it beautifully.
Superstar and A Song For You were also written by him.
This always gives me goosebumps. Karen's voice, OMG!!!!!
Ignore the haters you two. Your reactions are wonderful and always differ. You both are very authentic. "It is Known."
They said she always did everything in one take its called talent
This is an enduring favourite Carpenters song for me. Karen's singing sounds so effortless, but there's a reason we don't hear more voices like her's.
Why's that then?
@@colinmiller5502 because everyone is a singer, but hardly anyone is a vocalist much less a vocalist like karen carpenter!...
Whenever a great artist passes prematurely you are left to wonder how much more great music they would have gone on to create. Another example is Jim Croce. RIP TO THEM BOTH.
Love that you two love this song. Made me want to sing along with a glass of wine cooking a nice dinner.
Karen was an ANGEL sent straight from heaven... 💕💕💕💕
Love her!!!🥰🥰🥰
Breath control and phrasing. That's what allowed Karen to float above the music. Simply amazing.
Wonderful reaction to a fantastic Carpenters classic. It's hard to go wrong with Karen and Richard.
What an ambience they created in the studio. Great performance and sonic bliss.

Love Your Reaction Guys.
I bought my first records 61 yeas ago in 1960 and this is in my TOP 10 OF ALL TIME :)
Karen, at her VERY best. A classic.
Richard's arrangement is just masterful. The man was a genius.

Her brother has such a beautiful touch with the piano. He chose most of the music he felt suited her voice. This may be my favorite.

Nice reaction guys. I'm gushing right alongside you. The song fits her like a glove. Piano and flute are pretty as well.
Be sure and check out '' All you get from love is a love song '' also by The Carpenters.

So true and both songs are covers of Leon Russell songs. So beautiful.
@@markzimmerman2057 Don't forget "Superstar" another Leon Russell/Bonnie Bramlett classic.

THE best rendition of this song. Hands down. Vocals are superb and the arrangement amazing. An all time favorite.
I so enjoy the Carpenters. Beautiful song. Beautiful singing. It has endured to this day. Thank you for your review!

Karen is in a league by herself !!
Karen's voice...no need to say anything....but heads up for Richards' stunning jazz piano.
Wow what else can you say, beautiful voice and person. Talent today cannot match the beauty control and smoothness.
