Later to be known as "Billy Van" who co-hosted BITS AND BYTES with Luba Goy (of the ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FARCE comedy troupe) on TVO and PBS here in the States.
Billy Van was in Colt 45 commercials from the 1960s to early 1980s. One commercial featured the Nairobi Trio (which was originally on Ernie Kovacs' TV shows, with the song "Solfeggio"), and used Ernie's original costumes and props---and Ernie's widow, Edie Adams, reprising her original role as the ape at the piano.
I don't know about the rest of you, but this is how *I* enjoy Colt 45. I set myself a little table, cover it with some lovely linen, select a piece of fine china and take it all to an airport runway. It works every time.
Wow. Just wow. I was this many years old when I learned that there was a Colt 45 ad campaign predating the 1980's which targeted, um, a different demographic marketshare.
A classic ad campaign that ran for years. Not sure if it's from 1960 though. More likely from the mid-'60s, because it was shot in color (despite the rather bleached-out, almost sepia-tone appearance of the colors due to age). This is a campaign that they should bring back and update for the current market of Colt 45 (apparently the same market they aimed the car ads with the hip-hop hamsters at). Thanks for posting this. Oh yeah, before I forget: FIRSTIES!!!!
Ha! I might have known I'd find you here! LOL :-D I was just now watching a little more of the "1001 Classic Commercials" DVD and enjoying seeing again this ad--that Colt 45 Malt Liquor theme coming back to me like an old friend--when it dawned on me that I've also seen this poker-faced actor elsewhere. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't he one of the comedy players on the "Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour" from the '70s? And you're right; this is mid-sixties, not 1960, for all the reasons you mentioned.
He never worked with Carol Burnett. He was on later seasons of "The Andy Williams Show", plus "The Ray Stevens Show", "The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show", and "Bizarre", among many others.
Hey again kiddo! That guy looks a bit like one of the people from that show, and he may have been on other shows by that company as well, such as Tony Orlando & Dawn, the Hudson Bros., the short-lived Gladys Knight & the Pips variety show, and others (they all used the same troupe of actors, like Freeman King, Murray Langston (aka the "Unknown Comic"), etc.); Teri Garr got her start as an actress on Sonny & Cher too (and was a backup dancer on "The T.A.M.I. Show" film also). Check your inbox!
He was busy running Cloud City when this ad was being made. You will notice that he started appearing in the ads in 1980, after the Empire took over that facility. 😉
This guy’s a good reminder not to be distracted or disturbed by life’s events.
Loved these commercials by Colt 45, where everything around them bordered on chaos, and then he gets a Colt 45 to break up the humdrum of his life. :)
Total dry-as-dust aplomb.
Works every time!
I loved these commercials when I was a kid in the 60s. In the 80s when somebody had a close call, we would whistle that tune.
Colt 45 Introduced in 1963, this commercial is mid 1960's, maybe 66 or 67
Good catch … it definitely looks '67ish … plus Billy Van, the actor, certainly looks more 34 than 26
Ya, 1 was at least 10 then. 1960 cant be right. Robert at 67.
Billy Van was a comedy genius!
Yes, this is Billy Van Evera...He is my grandfather's cousin. He also had a show called Frightenstein, and played on the show called Party Game.

The jingle was inspired by Solfeggio, which Ernie Kovacs used in his Nairobi Trio skits.
One of the best ad campaigns. But this is closer to 1967 than 1960.
jlovebirch I was going to say 1967 or 1968 as I remember this commercial
@@hoss73ford Amazing how this ad was produced three whole years before Colt 45 was introduced! 😉
You are right, Robert at 67.
1967-68. Was born in ‘61 and remember seeing this ad..
Delicious and refreshing Colt 45 Malt Liquor works every time!
Robert's Art Studio lmao

Billy also had a singing group with his brothers for a few years.
The catchiest commercial jingle ever. Unforgettable.
Hardly.....but very memberable
@@irish89055 Memorable. 😁
The jingle for Kent cigarettes was quite memorable. And the disadvantages jingle for Benson & Hedges was mystical. 😊
Dan Draper would approve. 🎉
My favorite of the series was the ad using the Jaws shark, complete with the missing left fin.

I recall seeing these spots on the NBA Game of the Week on ABC each Sunday.
I'm so hammered on Colt 45, I don't give a damn what's happening around me.

Colt 45 was introduced in 1963. Please correct the video title.

Oh man.. classic ads.. I hope you have the entire "Joe Isuzu" collection .. my new favorite channel to sift through
Yes....he was on Sonny and Cher, and I think he did some Carol Burnett comedy, as well.... :-)

@@OofusTwillip That could very well be. I thought I remembered that as a child. 🤗👍
IT WAS BETTER WITH THE COMMERCIALS BACK THEN - CLASSIC
Colt 45 wasn't introduced until 63, and this looks more like mid to late 60s
Classic
Hi. Cool spot. I'm fairly certain this is from 1970 and not 1960 though. =)
I'd say 1965/1967 ish. I was 10 to 12 then. Robert at 67.
Wow!
im white and im drinking colt 45 8% at this very moment :p
Surfing waiter was my high school gym teacher 😎
I am drinking colt 45 high gravity right now too.
It's not just for breakfast any more...

Malt Liquor!
Just think how many lives were destroyed and lost, or ruined with that cold frosty lookin' beverage...
Just like Schlitz malt liquor Colt 45 and many malt liquors at one time were not quite always ghettoized and geared towards them
A white guy in a suite drinking colt 45? The 60s sure were a different time
Colt 45 was introduced in 1963 not 1960.
It was 1967 not 1960. Just saying…
WHAT NO FUCKING LANDO?

That's not 1960, it's 1968.
not 1960 i am sure 1970's yes
Mid 60's..Robert at 67.
White people used to drink colt 45 ?
Yep. Used to play in the NBA too.
Trey Warnock Haha
Wait a minute... There's a white guy drinking a colt 45. What's wrong with this picture?
Apparently, malt liquor was marketed to white people at one point.
Who knew?
Trilmonté Apparently you are all too young to remember the original target market for Colt 45?
@@Raphie009 Remember Champale?
Most of those commercials were made with white people.
