  • Find out how pointe shoes should fit. A pointe shoe should fit your foot like a glove fits your hand!
    They should support your joints in your feet but not restrict your movements. They should enhance the arches of your feet and look like they are extensions of your feet, not like huge clogs.
    If they are well fitted, they should not be very painful either.
    Sur les Pointe is a forum put together by Yuka, a ballet teacher and ex-professional ballet dancer, and Jade, a dancer and pointe shoe fitter to raise awareness of the importance of well fitted pointe shoes and offer advice on how your pointe shoes should fit, how to improve your technique, tips on how best to sew on your ribbons, how to strengthen your feet to get ready for pointe work and lots more!
    Send photos or video of you wearing pointe shoes and/or your pointe work if you would like our opinion! Our judgement will be solely based on what we can see on photos and videos, and if you would like further advice in person and in or near Oxford, get in touch and we can arrange a meeting.

    I loved watching them try on so many pairs to find the truly perfect fit! You definitely seem like the place that dancers should go to to get their pointe shoes fitted 👍

    Thank you for your very informative video. As a former dancer, (I'm 64 yrs.) , I wish there was this information when I was dancing. Too many years of OUCH!!!!! It would be helpful to know what shoes you were using for this lovely dancer.

    hello :) Thank you for your video! the fitting i had in my town went very fast, the person didnt look at my feet and made me try a few pairs of the same brand and decided the one i got was good. but they hurt as soon as i wear them( not on pointe). it cuts in my achilles tendinis. i think they are a little too small. i had a question: is the end of the shank supposed to stop in the middle of my heel when im walking on my pointes? i know its not supposed to be totally at the end, but in the middle of the heel feels strange. Sorry for all those questions, but it's my first pointe shoes since a long time and i feel the fitter didnt listen when i told him that this pair seemed wrong. with the protecting pads, they are too narrow....i cant wear any pads, only lamb wool. thank you :)

    Would you be able to list the brands and models of the pointe shoes that were tried on? Either list them in comments in the order they were tried on in the video or put text on the video with that information as the different pairs are tried on?

      Hello.
      We decided not to list which brand/makes of shoes that were tried on as we wanted to focus on the importance of the well fitted shoes, without any possible preconceptions. Every dancer has differently shaped feet, strength, experience and requirements, and the pointe shoes should be chosen according to those conditions and not because of brands or because certain shoes look good on someone else.
      Hope this helps.
      Please feel free to get in touch if you have any further questions.
      Thanks.

    Hi, great video! I’ve never heard about a ‘toe spacer’. I have a space between my big toe and second toe as well. Would you know where, preferably a website, to buy these toe spacers? Let me know!

    My fitting was awful, the shop I went to only has one brand, she made me try on about 2 pairs and they were “good” and the only thing she did was make me go up on pointe. And I didn’t know what was going on, so I thought that I was all set. But my shoes are clunky, too wide (the edge of the shoe comes away from my feet on Demi-pointe), they don’t accentuate my arches, and I’m in excruciating pain only after 5 minutes. I don’t know what to do because my parents won’t let me get different shoes.

      Our life En pointe!
      Hello!
      We got her to try a few different brands including Le Pointes, Bloch, Grishko and Russian Pointe, to show how different brands or even different models of one brand can make a difference.
      You have to find a pair of shoes that support your feet perfectly and create beautiful lines for your feet. And everyone's feet are different and what fit one person doesn't always fit another. Also, as your technique get stronger, your feet change and you will need different kind of pointe shoes. It is a lengthy and difficult process!

    Can you get Pointe shoes with ribbons already sewn on?...

    • @SimplyNeveonyoutube
      @SimplyNeveonyoutube 6 років тому +6

      Life of a Stein !!! No not generally because each dancer likes to position their ribbons slightly differently

    • @surlespointes2871
      @surlespointes2871  6 років тому +4

      Life of a Stein !!! Although most of the time dancers have to sew the ribbons on themselves, a few makes such as Chacotte of Japan sell pointe shoes with ribbons already sewn on.
      We will publish a video of how to sew ribbons on soon!
