Great documentary, heard adams story on the stuttering mind podcast last week and thought I’d give it a try. My 14 year old son has a stammer and I worry about him everyday, watching your dad speak got me very emotional. You have showed great courage to get where you are today and have given me hope for my son . 💙
Adam and Dan you are two inspirational people, when I’m sad I always stammer but it teaches me to not be sad as then I don’t have to stammer. Everyone who stammers when they’re sad take that into account 💜
Hi The Villa Focus, emotions do play a large part in having a stammer. Excited, tired, angry and sad. Here's my channel, maybe you'll be able to find some useful tips to help you on your journey. ua-cam.com/channels/aPLHG7-MEKq-0MImVFzbFQ.html
Superb production Dan, easily worthy of mainstream television. The BBC should be chasing after you because this leaves their rubbish in the dark. Adam, you are an absolute hero. I saw your first appearance on the Villa View channel on the day it happened and, having seen this video, I can now understand what fantastic strength and courage it must have taken to stand there, on camera, and beat your own demons let alone other people's potential prejudices and sarcasm. You are a guiding light, my friend, that should be held aloft for any other sufferers to let them see that courage and determination will take them a long way towards their hopes of conquering this impediment. You are a rock, and long may you continue to be, and you've shown to the World what progress can be made when someone sets their mind to it. You have my total admiration. Through this video, you have shown the World, sufferers or not, that no one has to settle for second best just because they have a problem that others might consider to be awkward or embarrassing. You have a very important role in your job and a beautiful wife. There are tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) in all walks of life who cannot say that. Looking at your surroundings in the video, you have made a good life for yourself through your own hard work and commitment (and I'm sure with the unyielding support of your wife) and you now seem to be able to handle the stammer as if it were just something that happens to drag along behind you like a piece of hard to remove fluff on a trouser leg. I'm sure it's not that easy but giving that impression to those that are still in that dark lonely corner, ashamed of their difficulties, can only help to bring them out into the light ready to fight their own personal demons and to face the world as the equal that they already are but can't quite see for themselves yet. Congratulations Adam on achieving such success in life and I'm sure this video will make you the public hero that many sufferers will aspire to equal.
Really well put-together documentary this wouldn't be out of place main-stream TV. Adam I spoke with you briefly today in the resources room at the printer and I noticed you had a stammer but having a family member with a stammer I was taken aback at how the social situation of talking with a complete stranger in such small confinement, didn't faze you at all. The very fact that you are a social worker a job heavily reliant on social interaction is an excellent way of saying a big fat 'F you' to your impediment 🙌🏼 so massive props to you & the ongoing work Starfish are doing to not only help and support people like yourself but creating awareness at a little-known/understood condition. You are nothing short of inspirational Adam and I fully intend on showing this to my cousin and hope that your story inspires him as much as it has me 😊 All I have to say to encourage him is that you were able to engage in social 'small talk' with me (something I know he deeply struggles with and avoids at all cost) that you are happily married and a fellow villa fan 😉 Glad I spotted the poster about this UA-cam doc on my way out of work, made for excellent viewing! Thank you!
Well Done Adam. Your story is a replica of a lot of people who stammer, the covert feelings are far worse than the overt, so keep on melting that iceberg. Also, we've all been in that English class...arghh
A beautifully illustrated documentary about living with a stammer. I felt Adam covered every point there was to make about having it. Absolutely amazing. And most importantly “it’s ok to stammer” well done to you.
Absolutely brilliant documentary. I think its brilliant that Adam let us the viewers see his life and his past and take about his problems with having stammering and getting over that demon that tries to hold him back. Adam you done very well and all the best. Thanks to Daniel and Adam for a great documentary.
Very moving. I work with and support a guy who has a really bad stutter and he finds it very hard to make conversation as it can take him a very long time for him to get his words out. I know this is slightly different. But having worked with someone who has something similar I can understand how hard it can be. Adam hats off too you. Well done 😊
What an amazing video! I appreciated the comment that there is no cure because I am bombarded with companies that claim to have the cure but the fact is that there is no cure. You can learn skills and techniques to improve your fluency but giving false hope to those who are suffering is just cruel. I applaud the support groups and strongly feel that if you surround yourself with positive people, you can do anything in this world.
