Full SIMMS switch panel, gated gear selector and a genuine original Leyland steering wheel. Beautiful stuff!

Use to drive right hand versions of these in Britain. Much newer ones. The yellow knob next to the gear lever is to pull out while selecting reverse. So it cannot be engaged accidently. These and the single deck Nationals (called SNBs) were so easy and a pleasure to drive. Then, all we had to worry about was traffic / hold ups, inspectors and passengers.

and the built-in gate in the gear selector, just a sliding piece of metal so that if you're in 4th, you can't just go straight back into 1st or 2nd. You have to go into 3rd, then that opens the gate to 2nd/1st

Only passed my psv back in mid 90s but IV still drove one......bugger on steering when full of folk.
My stepdad could strip one of them on running gear with his eyes shut.....and IV still got his tools and homemade box to go......

Was aware of the Leyland Atantean. Dating from 1958, the first mass produced british bus with engine at rear and door at front. A radical design setting the trend of things to come. I didn't know Leyland built left hand drive versions. Metosul from Portugal made toy buses similar to this.

Very different to the Atlanteans I have driven, On one trip from west London, up the M1 to Whipsnade park, with 100 children and teachers on board (in those days you were allowed 3 under 12's per double seat) a child upstairs at the rear threw up, which caused a chain reaction and quickly the whole of both decks was covered in vomit. Fortunately with plastic seats and no carpet I hosed it out at the depot. Oh memories!

It looks to be in very good condition; I hope it gets preserved.
Unusual for there to be lower deck window behind the stairs...

Unusual to see a LHD double decker, especially one I recognise. The body, while distinctly Atlantean, does look to have locally built/rebuilt differences.

As a boy I had a corgi one, marvellous thing at the time as all other buses were of engine in front beside the driver, and the Atlantean had to be a major change for Leyland.

My ex boss sold some Routemasters to mart leek in volendam, just outside Amsterdam. He ran them for ages with extra mirrors. He also took just the rooftop off, one which Mart Christened the duck bus , used for shooting parties.

Does this Atlantean have Portuguese bodywork? Stylish curved windows on the corners. I've always loved the pneumo-cyclic gear selector.....especially when we'll driven! I notice some modern yellow buses in the background - is this Lisbon area?

Hi iv just watched it in April 10th 2023 and I got to agree with you literally no Commentry hearing him talk about where he is nor about the bus. Lack of confidence being able to present this video. Yet I liked the Atlantean wish the guy doing this video had of put something entertaining words in . Oh well unlucky 😕
