The DOLLAR TREE will be your best friend!!! They have kitchen utensils, like spatulas, pizza cutter, silverware, shower curtains, and plates and glasses for a of course a dollar. The plates are actually pretty darn good quality too. Also, they have some great cleaning supplies. I’m excited for you Alex!
When I got my first studio apartment dollar tree was my best friend for the first few months. I just bought a laundry basket full of dollar tree items no shame and it also gives you the opportunity to test out products and if you like something most likely you can get a larger one at Walmart. I would buy cheap things and when I wanted to upgrade I would save and buy what I really wanted. You got this and congratulations!
Walmart is cheaper for brooms and mops and so on. Your dad is so right about plungers and good ones are so hard to find. The old school ones are the best! Still good to had dad showing you the stuff you will need. Also dollar tree has alot of great things cleaning wise.
In September I was 76 years old. I had been living with my daughter and her husband taking care of their three boys. They no longer needed me to stay there as the boys are old enough for me to move out. This is my first time I have lived on my own. I had nothing. It was fun going out and buying things and I had a lot of people helping ,me. Just remember. Someone asked if you had a wish list. Don’t feel terrible making one up. People do things because they enjoying helping people. By you saying you don’t want help you are depriving them of their blessing. Love your family. Good luck in your new journey.
Alex, I recommend Corelle dishware (in 40 years of marriage only 4 dishes were broken out of service for 8). The spray & mop items are nice, but it may break, mine lasted 3 months each. Now Ledman makes a mop that the mop head can go through the washer & dryer. Mr. Clean makes a plunger/ toilet brush set, both are a necessity & both need to be kept clean. The bathroom waste can, can double as your mop bucket. Did that for about 20 years. Sit down & think of what you really need, worry about color & style later as you have finds. Basics are best for the beginning. Save the plastic bags to line your waste can.
I don’t know if that is good or bad but my nana is 74 my pawpaw would have been turning 75 sadly he passed sept 16 due to Covid never would I make my grandparents move out I’m living with my nana now paying her rent in saving it’s different bc I’m used to my own place but I love it in tbh I can’t see my self moving in if I do I want my nana to move with me even though see can live on her own in completely healthy I just can’t I think bout the what if
You should ask Melinda and some of your cousins that have recently moved out on their own, their advise, things they had come up they didn't expect, etc, and make a video with them :)
Dollar store for soooo many things. Then you can get better things after you’re in and see what’s needed. You’re great Alex. So mature, fun and a great guy!!
I'm with Alex on the mop. Nothing is as gross as dirty mop water in your sink. Especially If you have a quick miess to clean. The one with the sprayer uses less water. Plus it cleans better. The one you wring out just seems to move the dirt around
Hi Alex. When I first moved out I went to Walmart, buck or two or dollar store to get a broom, garbage can mop and other things like that. It was all in my budget to start. I know it’s cheaper then all the name brand store but it helps to get me started. Just a thought. Hugs
Maybe ask Lacey as she only moved into her own place a year ago! Don't forget hand soap, dish soap, sponges, cleaning spray, paper towels, laundry detergent, laundry basket. Also, maybe a drill/screwdrivers/basic tools. And things like scissors, paper, pens are easy to forget, but when you need them you'll really notice it!!
So excited for you. A lot of your cleaning supplies get at Dollar Tree, they have hand soap and things there. For a mop I suggest the spin mop works great. I know you said on CP you didn’t want a registery but think it would be a great idea. Love and prayers always have a blessed day ❤️❤️🙏🙏
@@MsMMBell It’s already $ 1.25 at all the ones near me. 😕 I don’t shop there much anymore. Dollar General is closer to my house and prices on most items are better when you consider the size , most $1.25 Tree items are like buying sample size items LOL 😆.
My first apartment, I decorated from the Dollar Tree. As I lived on my own longer, I was able to upgrade to better quality items. You can get mops, brooms, shower curtains and so many more for less. Plus so many kitchen gadgets for $1. Great way to get necessities for a low budget.
The best things is getting a Budgeting for everything you needed for your apartment . Alex I would like to send you a box of thing like hand sanitizer ect.
When I got my first place I bought a lot of my stuff from dollar tree , even kitchen stuff like all the cooking utensils , glass cups, plates, bowls ! Also try Ross and then of course Walmart . Yeah you need a trash can but you’ll also need trash bags , can opener , strainer , paper towels . If your not going to use the dish water you can get a counter top dish drying rack , soap , sponges . Some of these are things I didn’t realize I needed till I got settled in . Not sure your budget on a couch but we also used a futon as a couch so when friends stayed over it could turn into a bed . Good luck on your journey,I really enjoy these videos !
Home Depot? Walmart or target would have been cheeper. You need your mom to throw you a moving out party, like a wedding shower where people bring you gifts to start you out . Two great gifts I received was a box of spices and a box with junk drawer items, like tape, scissors, screwdriver, tape measure etc. Also thrift stores are great places to find kitchen ware and garage sales.
I loved that Aaron went with Alex to do his shopping. Great Dad/Son time together. I like how you thought about your budget, & what is needed for now, & all the other stuff will come with time. Alex, if you don't get approved for this particular apartment at least you will have a start on when you do get one. Don't get discouraged if you don't get this one. I'm sure there will be others out there to choose from.
My granddaughter is 21 and has been learning how hard adulting is also. The good news is that it gets easier the more experience you get. The not as good news is that it takes a while, so be patient and don't panic about stuff. Your parents will be a good resource
The plunger bit killed it! 😂 Alex you got this! Budgeting is everything. Don't be scared to use coupons. I rented my first town house at 21 and bought my first place at 30. Cook your own meals try not to go out too much you'll save so much! Stick to your limit!
The best advice I can provide is to write down a list for each room of the apt of what you need. So for example: The Kitchen needs: Toaster/Coffee Maker/Can Opener/Silverware/Plates/Cups/Bowls/Specialty Cutlery and Food for cupboards and fridge. The second thing is find the best place to shop for both price and quality. If you can spend a little more, you can high quality stuff and it should last longer than cheap price stuff. Hope this helps Alex. Kindest Regards, Aiden Alamo
Dollar tree stores are great for things to start off. Dishes and plastic tubs for storage. Cleaning supplies, brooms mops ect. Great for when you are on a budget. The registry idea is a great idea too.
Soo proud of Alex. When got married first moved out the Dollar Store and Wal Mart were my best friends. I bought cheaper things and if i didn't like it I would upgrade. I hope you get the apartment. Best wishes and good luck on your new adventure.
I assisted each of our children when they moved out. I bought them their basic needs to get started. Set of towels , face cloths, t-towels dish cloths, dish soap laundry soap, hand soap, broom dust pan mop etc. plus basic food items . We probably spent close to $300- $500 on them.
This is exciting days for Alex, fun watching him spreading his wings. Also, I really enjoyed having Aaron being in the video. Seems like we don't see or hear enough from him. Nice he could have one on one time with Alex. Wishing you the best as you begin your new venture.
A lot of these things you need to look at getting from Dollar Tree. they have plungers mops and brooms that you just pay for one handle and buy the separate heads that you want that attach to the one handle. You can get glass dishes there also. Handle towels dish towels sponges many kitchen and cleaning things.
I agree with some of the other comments. Dollar Tree has so much stuff to get you started out. They actually have a pretty decent broom/mopping system that works well. You buy the pieces individually, but for $5 you can get your broom handle, broom head, a mop head that fits swiffer cloths (or just microfiber cloths to clean or dust with) and a traditional mop head. You just unscrew them from the handle to change them out. Their dishes and cups have always worked well for me too. Best of luck in your new apartment!
All of these little items/cleaning items add up quick in cost. Once you invest in buying everything you need upfront, you only spend a little bit of money here and there to replace it. Don't let the beginning costs scare you!! Congrats on this big step Alex!
Stay at home for another 6-12 months. During that time, use your paycheck to buy your household items, dishes, linens, furniture, etc. Learn to budget for your expenses. It's not just rent, but power, gas, water, renters insurance is a must. On top of car payments and insurance. If you can't afford all that, stay at home longer. You may want to get a 2nd job and stack your cash. Save up to buy a house or condo. Rent is just throwing away money. Your parents are wise, ask questions and learn from them.
Love the way Alex is not too proud to ask for advice from his parents with regard to the equipping his flare with the essentials. He definitely has his head screwed on xx
Alex. You can do it. Focus on your goals. Start with baby steps if you feel overwhelmed. As you said the help from your family is at the corner. Don't rush the adulthood and have fun in the process.
This is exactly what I imagined shopping with 2 dudes for a whole apartment would be like. 😂😂 This will be totally different when mom takes him shopping! Proud of you Alex! 💛
Dollar Tree will be your favorite store. Not only for household items but they also have decent food selection. Enjoy adulting and remember that the more you save on necessities the more money you will have for bills and fun things. So proud of you Alex!
You should absolutely get a Tool set for the house that way if anything breaks you have a way to fix it. That will save you alot of money in the long run
I love watching you go through this journey into adulthood and independence as you move into your first place solo. It's such a huge step - especially doing it without a mate, spouse or room-mate etc. It really shows how ready, mature and eager you are to make this step in life work. Cheering you on all the way from Australia!😘
When I first moved out I literally went to every room in the house. Bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, living room etc. I wrote down everything I used. There’s so many small things you don’t think of. Like the kitchen, sponges, dish soap, hand soap, towels, kitchen trash can, etc…. Bathroom towels, hand towels, tooth paste, shampoo conditioner, body wash, plunger, toilet cleaner.. Etc. it made my life easier and every pay period we’d pick a room and go buy for it!
This is so nice that your Dad is helping you with so many pointers and teaching lifelong skills that one day you’ll do the same for your son or daughter 💙
Awesome Alex good luck with everything and for the plant i suggest you a Snake Plant or Golden Pothos check them before you buy it for any insects or diseases on dirt and leaves. DO NOT repot them or water them as soon you get them let them be for at least 2 weeks so they can acclimate to your apartment temperature. They both do good with any type of light, they are low maintenance. Pothos grow like crazy when they are in a well lit area and pothos are like vines so if you hang it somewhere it would look amazing tripping out of the pot or if you put a moss pole and attach the vines to it would also look awesome, the leaves will also get bigger so. 🤗❤
Dollar tree for your dishes drinking glasses etc. You can even get your dish towels oven mitts sliver wear brooms it will save you loads of money since your just starting off on a budget
I see your excitement and also taking good advice from your parents. That is wise. Being excited and slowing down to listen to take their advice is a really good thing! So proud of you! When the time comes, it will fall into place. Lots of Love 💗
I love Alex’s personality 😂❤️ I’m 33, and this took me back to my early days, but I was a teen mom on top of it all.. I’m so grateful to be in a better place now ❤️ YOU GOT THIS ALEX!
Turn on electric, cable/internet, router, long extension cord with alot of outlets, water bill. All of those have to be turned on and transfer to your new apt. Silverware, towels, dish towels, carpet for bathrooms, kitchen, trash cans with bags, sponges, housecleaners. The list is Endless Alex!! I'm so happy for you
Way to go Alex! Living on your own can be both daunting and enjoyable at the same time! You will figure out what you need to buy, in terms of house necessities when you actually start living in your apartment. And the things you can do without! It's easy to go overboard, and so like your Dad says, budgeting is pretty important. When I lived on my own, I had budget categories for food, utilities, essential home items (bed, pots & pans, towels etc) and then I saved up for additional things I really wanted but didn't need right away (fancy coffee machine!). You'll do great! So happy for you!
I recommend making a spreadsheet to budget. You can put every item you need and the price of each item on it. At the end you can see the total of all the items.
Alex, the best thing to do is make a list of everything you are going to need and then start to buy ticking it off your list so then you don't buy it twice because some things have multiple uses x
Get cheaper/more affordable brands to use at first. You can always go back and invest in a better mop, etc. once you’re settled in. I’m 21 and moved into my first apartment in March last year with my boyfriend. I didn’t realize how much went into it. Luckily, my family bought me a few things to help us settle in. The first thing I bought was a tfal pot and pan set a whole month before we moved because I love to cook. Ross has great home items and decor and don’t be afraid of goodwill :) You got this Alex. Best of luck
Seriously Alex, I live in a 1 bedroom apt in Kenya. We never use a mop. We have these heavy duty white rags, bleach, lysol floor cleaner and we get down on our hands and knees and scrub with the rag. Luckily you have a fairly small mop area and a vacuum for the carpeted areas. Paper towels and white vinegar for window cleaning! Simple is better!
That mop you like is cheaper at Walmart and those pads you can throw in the washer. I keep extra pads to swap them out while dirty ones are in the laundry.
What an exciting time! Our 2nd oldest is getting ready to move out. We learned from when our oldest moved in his first apartment out of college things you don’t think of. The things we didn’t think of was: sandwich baggies, gallon bags, Saran Wrap, Ibuprofen, Tylenol, our favorite seasonings we use at home.(I know Aaron loves his seasonings, but basic day to day seasonings). When I was younger a church would have a grocery shower for the new couple. I love that idea so much that I am doing it for a second child.. Our second child is very independent and wants to do it on his own, but he is letting us help with groceries and things for the medicine cabinet. I just spent $150 just on cold medicine, allergy medicine ibuprofen, Tylenol stomach meds, bandaids, cough drops(stuff for this time of year) If people want to get you gifts don’t turn them down, look at as blessings. It’s just as important as graduating, and your 21st birthday, it’s called a home warming gift. It’s not that you can’t do it, people want to bless you for sharing your story.
When I first moved out I asked my parent if they had anything they no longer wanted, then I could replace items as and when needed! Good luck with the apartment
Start at Dollar Tree. I bought my bathroom trash can for $1 there. It's good for kitchen stuff also. Hand me downs from relatives got me started in my first place. Check with your aunts and grandparents and see if they have extra stuff they want to give away.
Alex I know you said on Crazy Pieces you want to do this on your own but don't be afraid to put together an Amazon list or Walmart List or something else and you know the fans are more than happy to help you out.
His parents live in a 2 million dollar home, I think that’s tacky to ask people who make a fraction of that to support their son. Just my opinion. Would you ask strangers to buy your kid stuff to move out?
@@assaultedpeanutt Yes we got that you feel he needs to learn to do everything by himself. But there is NOTHING wrong with help~Everyone needs help every once in while. We aredoing everything for him, we are just helping him along the way. There is nothing wrond with helping.
The thing I always needs and never had on hand were Cammand strips (can't put holes in rented walls!) And an easily reachable toilet paper supply stand. No one is there to bring you TP if your role is inconveniently empty!
Tools, (screw drivers, hammer) hangers , flash lights, batteries, soap of all forms (laundry, hand, dish) extra storage (like something for under your bed) dishes, a big trash can for the kitchen, plunger, laundry baskets ( get. The ones with wheels if u plan on taking your laundry anywhere) dishes just a few, dish rags, oven mitts, those are things I ran into needing within the first month
Agree love the o cedar spin mop. It’s the best and easiest mop to use. And ms myers cleaning supplies. Plus Clorox disinfectant wipes are great to have on hand.
You should totally hit up some thrift stores when it comes to decorating the apartment! I always love that thrift store items have more character than store bought decorations (:
Alex, I wait for sales but Wal Mart has inexpensive towels and there cheapest ones work well if you buy several and alternate them. They have wash rags in a bundle too. Don't forget pillows for your bed for you to sleep on and sheets and Aaron will tell you why thread count is important. LOL You will also need clothes hangers for your closet and a waste basket for the kitchen. Corelle ware dishes come in a 4 place set and are very good for microwave and durable and if dropped will not break. They sometimes have matching glasses to go with the plates but those will break if dropped on a hard floor. You can also get a cheap 4 place setting of silver ware. All of these items can be found at Wal Mart or Target. I don't shop much as Target as where I live they seem to be higher. Don't forget a Toaster.
Walmart! And yes, get Melinda or your girlfriend, someone who is a bargain shopper to help you out. Would love to see you have a little housewarming party as well if you get accepted for your apartment!! We love you Alex and wish you alllllll the best!!!
For first time stuff, Walmart is a cheaper place to get what you need to set up. Including dishes, silverware, pots/pans, swiffer, bowl cleaning brush/holder and all the other beginner stuff at a budget, even a plunger.
You can get pillows towels paper pots and towels at Costco for cheap and necessities like plates eating utensils and stuff like that are good at the dollar store since you’re just starting off
Being one person if you buy everything in bulk it'll last you all year. That being cleaning supplies and stuff of that nature.. you'll do so good I'm so excited for you!
Congratulations Alex! I know you don't have the apartment yet, but it is exciting watching you prepare for your future. Before I moved into my first apartment I would buy a few things every week when I got paid to make it less stressful later. I shopped per room each time I shopped. Dollar Tree and Dollar General are great places for inexpensive cleaning supplies.
The DOLLAR TREE will be your best friend!!! They have kitchen utensils, like spatulas, pizza cutter, silverware, shower curtains, and plates and glasses for a of course a dollar. The plates are actually pretty darn good quality too.

$1.25 Tree Now :-(....find a family dollar or whatever they have in Zona
And some items at Walmart are under a dollar.
Any dollar store comes in clutch not just when you first move out. 99cent only store has a lot of good stuff
A mix of dollar tree and ikea and Walmart will get you 80% of the way there. I still shop there lol
Thank you for the tip! Dollar tree really is a great place.

Or also Dollar Tree!
Lots of good stuff at Dollar Tree.
Start out at Dollar Tree see how much of what you need you can get there.. then what you can't find there go to Walmart

Etc. it made my life easier and every pay period we’d pick a room and go buy for it!
So proud of you Alex grew into a wonderful man with the most amazing mom and dad on the planet Earth ❤
This is so nice that your Dad is helping you with so many pointers and teaching lifelong skills that one day you’ll do the same for your son or daughter 💙
I agree with a lot of the comments here, places like the Dollar Tree or thrift stores should have a lot of stuff you'll need and budget friendly.
Alex get a basic tools etc! Minor fixes, building furniture, changing batteries in things you own! Tool set is a must.
That on the dustpan is neat! I didn't know what it was for, either! I love Swiffer products - duster, sweeper, floor cleaner.
So glad you are doing this with Dad! Relationship with your Dad is important. He's been around the block, listen up sweetie
I think it was so awesome that your dad went with you and talked to you through a lot of things and it is overwhelming when you get your 1st place
Don't forget a basic toolset, spare light bulbs and a first aid kit as well. Exciting times for you :-)
Turn on electric, cable/internet, router, long extension cord with alot of outlets, water bill. All of those have to be turned on and transfer to your new apt. Silverware, towels, dish towels, carpet for bathrooms, kitchen, trash cans with bags, sponges, housecleaners. The list is Endless Alex!! I'm so happy for you
Oh my the memories just flooded back lol. Good luck with your new place Alex.
Deff get a vacuum and a plunger. You could always use a rag and a bucket to get down and clean the floors if you don’t wanna spend on a mop.
Good idea
Alex, the best thing to do is make a list of everything you are going to need and then start to buy ticking it off your list so then you don't buy it twice because some things have multiple uses x
Definitely!!!
He needs to learn to take care of himself. Bottom line.
Ya don't ask him to do that rn because you can't depend on other ppl in irl for basic nessacities
In the video on Crazy Pieces someone asked if he would do a wishlist and he said no because he wasnt comfortable doing that.
Dishwashers are useful as dish drying areas. Wash the dishes, rinse, and place in dishwasher. Use from dishwasher. Once a week run the load.
Ikea is a great place to start for household items
The thing I always needs and never had on hand were Cammand strips (can't put holes in rented walls!) And an easily reachable toilet paper supply stand. No one is there to bring you TP if your role is inconveniently empty!
I am new to your channel Alex.
Love watching all your family Videos.
Good luck in your new home Alex I hope you get it I support you Alex 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Good luck with everything!! I never lived alone I moved in with my husband and am very grateful! Love watching your videos❤️🥺
Start in Walmart. Home Depot can come later. Cleaning things are more expensive in HD.
Crystal will definitely be decorating. Congratulations Alex!
This was a great learning video what things to get just diff types of stuff
To start out try shopping at a Dollar store or thrift or goodwill store. Will save you a lot of money and you can upgrade at a later time.
Dollar Tree is great for brooms and mops and cleaning supplies...
For first time stuff, Walmart is a cheaper place to get what you need to set up. Including dishes, silverware, pots/pans, swiffer, bowl cleaning brush/holder and all the other beginner stuff at a budget, even a plunger.
SPICES. When I first moved out the one thing that shocked me the most that I had to buy was cooking spices.
Alex! You forgot your shower curtain! Lol😁 Great starter kit! You got this!! Good luck to ya! You'll get the apartment😉👍🏽👐👐
Love, MamaE💗
I absolutely love Alex, such a sweet guy and so mature. I hope you'll love your new place Alex, so proud of you.
Number one is a kettle! Followed by a small tool kit, so you can fix those little things that ALWAYS happen ie turning off the water supply
You can get pillows towels paper pots and towels at Costco for cheap and necessities like plates eating utensils and stuff like that are good at the dollar store since you’re just starting off
When my adult kids went out on their own dollar tree and Dollar General and Family Dollar were The go to places, then everything else at Walmart.
I am so happy for you Alex... And you already know, your mama will make sure your new place looks amazing 💕💕💕
My suggestion for not forgot anything id make a list or follow a checklist online there are so many good ones
Dollar tree has mops, brooms, dishes, glass cups, utensils, shower curtains, and cleaning products.
Bless his heart makes you want to go out and help this guy!! Not all young men are as special as Alex !! Good job buddy !
Dollar Tree and that type of store, or even Walmarts are fairly affordable for items
Being one person if you buy everything in bulk it'll last you all year. That being cleaning supplies and stuff of that nature.. you'll do so good I'm so excited for you!
look online at the different stores. They'll have prices.. compare then buy.
Dollar Tree is great for everything. I am 72 years old and still buy things there. It’s not just for beginners! Good luck Alex, you will do just fine.
Always check the clearance shelf’s for good discount items
Dollar Tree or .99 store for cooking utensils, plastic food store containers, soap and so much more. Then use your Target discount for high end items.
A lot depends on where you buy the basic things!
My first house was filled with stuff from goodwill stores and family and friends. Cut down on costs a lot
