  • here is a personal list of what can truly be done in Sunderland with a bit of planning:
    #sunderland #sunday #northeast
    1. **Roker & Seaburn Beaches**:
    - Take a leisurely stroll along the sandy shores of Roker or Seaburn Beach. The waves whisper stories, and the salty breeze soothes the soul. 🏖️
    2. **National Glass Centre**:
    - Discover Sunderland's glassmaking heritage at the National Glass Centre. Watch skilled artisans create intricate pieces, and maybe even try your hand at glassblowing. It's free to enter, but donations are appreciated. 🪟🎨
    3. **Stadium of Light**:
    - If you're a football fan, catch the buzz around the Stadium of Light. Even if there's no match, the stadium exudes its own energy. Who knows, you might spot a player or two! ⚽🏟️
    4. **Herrington Country Park**:
    - Explore Herrington Country Park-the green lungs of Sunderland. Wander among the trees, breathe in the fresh air, and perhaps visit the iconic Penshaw Monument nearby. 🌳🏰
    5. **North East Land, Sea, and Air Museum**:
    - If history intrigues you, head to this museum. Marvel at the Vulcan bomber and other military artifacts. It's a hidden gem for aviation enthusiasts. ✈️🔍
    6. **Souter Lighthouse and The Leas**:
    - Venture to Souter Lighthouse. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the rugged coastline. As National Trust members, we find it great value. 🗼🌊
    7. **Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens**:
    - Immerse yourself in local culture at the Sunderland Museum. Explore coal mining displays, admire the Winter Gardens, and marvel at a massive block of coal. 🏛️🌿
Remember, Sunderland's Sunday evenings are about simple pleasures-whether it's a sunset walk, a glimpse of history, or a cuppa at your favorite café. Enjoy the familiar charm! ☕🌆

If you would have asked this question me a few year ago, I would have said yes, absolutely, but now, I'm not so sure that Sunderland is a good place to bring up children.
Like many other English Cities, Sunderland has it's problems, and maybe specific to Sunderland is the major problem of how boring it is, especially after 5pm, so kids have almost nothing to do after school etc.
On the plus side though, subjectively speaking, Sunderland is currently undergoing a bit of a transformation, which has in turn brought new faces and characters to the area, i have spent many years in both London and Sunderland, and can honestly say that Sunderland feels more diverse now, than any place I've been to in London, so if this is a positive to you, then it may be a good place to be, if not, then maybe consider somewhere else.
All in all, Sunderland was "boring" now it's changing rapidly, so I would advise doing a little research on the things that matter to you and your family, but of course, keep it as an option.
      Many thanks for the comment,
Hope you enjoy whichever choice you make.

The theatre quarter is the busy part of town at that time of day as there are often sold out west end shows at the empire and the new firestation auditorium is very well visited for live bands and shows. Restaurants and bars around there are quite busy too. Thats where the evening is. You also stopped short of looking across the road from mackies where there is a bowling alley and casino. And dont forget thr sea front which is all bars and restaurants. Both roker and seaburn resorts. You seem to have an agenda to show Sunderland in the worst possible light with these videos by walking around an unfinished train station across a building site in the dark. You could walk around the quieter parts of Newcastle. The quayside is dead during the week and bars are all closed or empty. Eldon Square is also all shutters now.

Sunderland has loads of nice bars and places to visit and eat etc, thing is unlike newcastle where they are all compact together, sunderlands are all spread out all over and the seafront is the best in the north east and still getting better.
