Add the whiskey to the brown sugar, and stir until dissolved. Then add the coffee, and stir again. Finally, add whipped cream, and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top.
I used to do this one frequently in the bar I worked in Paris in the late 90's. You cannot imagine the number of people who would ask you for a straw... i tried to tell them, but they only found out when they burned their tongues. Other's would just stir it until it looked like Baileys... I had a little variation, especially for the ladies: i added a tiny amount of white chocolate liqueur (Cartron) in the cream before whipping it. It makes it sweeter.
Things to watch out for with Irish Coffee's!! 1 - The Showoff Bartender!! He'll flambee the whiskey before putting it into the glass. He's just burnt off all the alcohol 2 - The Sneaky Bartender!! Ten of you order Irish Coffee's after coming in from a cold day. He'll put a shot of Whiskey into the cream. You'll all taste the whiskey whilst drinking it but it'll save him a packet!! 3 - The Lazy Bartender!! He couldn't be arsed trying to balance the cream on top so he throws in about 6 sugars to the coffee. That'll make the cream float much easier
The main bar in Shannon (SNN) Airport today, is still called Sheridans, i'm only less than an hour north in Galway city. The airport was a major transit/stopover point from the 1930s right up to the 1960s, from Europe to North America.....every famous person from that era passed through during the refuel. They sometimes put out the exhibition of all the pictures they have from that time period....just so fascinating. Shannon is the 'Port of Call' airport for flights in the Eastern Atlantic, whether going East or West, for emergency's of any kind. Standing outside it, on any day, all you can hear are the birds singing....just nature.....no noise pollution
Top marks my man, that’s the way to make Irish coffee. I’m a 64 yo Irishman and Iv been making them and drinking them for 45 years. Jameson whiskey for Irish Coffee.... Paddy whiskey for Hot Whiskey👍👏
great seeing you back and with this awesome one! I am heading to my little kitchen to try this out :D and I just love your videos with all the information without being too long or boring! : ) appreciated by someone who also luuuuuuuvs coffee (and whiskey) : )
i absolutely agree. they sound both male, they both speak english, british to be precise. optically, both have 2 arms, 2 legs, a nose, a mouth, 2 eyes....wow. yes, they are completely similar, almost identical.
One of my MOST craved drinks in the world but specially on my FAVORITE holiday which is St. Patrick's Day!!!... I'm all Irish-ed up and celebrating!!!... ***Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!*** March 17th 2018***
I love this stuff to death, but I make my own version a little bit different, ingredient wise as well as the order in which I put in the ingredients. Instead of brown sugar I use honey and the "lightly whipped" cream in my version is shaken, which technically is lightly whipped but its easy to do at home without getting too many dishes dirty (you can get all fancy with a cocktail shaker but for me its just a good ol' glass jar, which gets filled with a little bit of cream, screwed shut and then I just shake it until it is frothy). My order to put in the ingredients is: Whiskey (jameson, preferably black barrel, but the regular will do), honey to taste, dissolve the honey in the whiskey a little through stirring. Pour over some freshly brewed coffee (be careful though if you make it in a pour over or a French press as you don't want your water to be boiling hot, maybe wait 2-5 mins after you boiled the water. If you haven't tried this yet: This might change your way of making coffee, as not using boiling water makes your coffee less bitter and more fragrant), stir and lastly pour your shaken cream over a spoon just like shown in this video. I got to be honest I drink this stuff more than I probably should but whatever, life is short y'know...
TheDenisedrake Wonderful to hear from you Denise - and no problem with the Bulleit, I'm more than a little partial to it myself. In fact, I was lucky enough to procure a bottle of the rye that last time I was over in the US. Very nice.
My parents taught me to first mix the sugar and whisky, and then I believe they put it in the microwave for a few seconds. So this order of putting the ingredients in was new to me. But I'm guessing this order might be better, because it feels kind of "off" to microwave the whisky. And perhaps it doesn't matter that the whisky is cold/room temperature, since the coffee is so hot.
Whisky works well in coffee for those who ask are there any other alcoholic drinks that complement it - although only if the coffee is black. Never add milk/cream with that as you could with Baileys
Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube Thats a bit of an overstatement actually. I actually don't like most specialty coffees out there today especially really complex ones. That recipe looked all right though. I would say I have more of a controversial relationship with it
Hmm ... A bit different from what I usually get when I've ordered myself an Irish Coffee. What I usually get is with thick whipped cream and some drizzle (I'm guessing cinnamon) and a straw or even two which leads to you stirring it up. Guess I'll have to try this.
Irish Coffee was invented in Foynes, County Limerick not Shannon Airport County Clare. Flying boats used land on the River Shannon and the bar man in the local hotel because he saw how cold the passengers off the flying boat were. There is a Museum there today to commemorate Irish Coffee and the flying boat era.
as a swede, i drink alot of coffee, and when you say strong coffee, do ypu mean strong coffee like american coffee or whatever you yourself think is strong? when i was in america i ordered a double esspresso, and its tasted like a normal cup off coffee in sweden.
Yowzza! Sounds like adding whiskey will help to dilute your coffee balooc2. Seriously though, it's always down to a matter of individual taste and, in this case, I think your regular coffee will be plenty strong enough.
Years ago, I met an Irish guy in the pub. We made a chit chat a lot of things. I still remember one question which I asked him. I asked him "Why the Irish put whiskey into coffee?". His answer was "My dear, the Irish always put whiskey into everything!". Then we laughed very loud ..
You said not to stir after all ingredients are added. When I was served irish coffee in France the whiskey and coffee were in distinct layers, with the whiskey at the bottom. Is this done by using the spoon technique as it is done with the cream?
Dear Jamie Oliver's team, our class is about to present a small pavilion to introduce United Kingdom's traditional drinks but not including alcohol (we cannot bring alcohol in school). We are struggling to find even one and also for finding food as well. I was wondering if you could help us by doing a small video about this (also on FoodTube). Thank you.
Unless your sensitive to caffeine, or pregnant, I can't think of a reason why anyone would not drink their cold brew at full strength. If you want to heat it up, no need to dilute with hot water, just pop it in the microwave.
Joe Crick In the absence of a steamer, I usually warm my milk in a pan and use a battery operated frother to create a similar texture. That said, you only need lightly whipped double cream for this one Joe. Hope that helps.
Tomás León Hey, you wanna know the big secret? You have to put the cream on DIRECTLY after the boil. It has to be piping hot for the cream not to sink. Like, really fucking hot.
tokogon You may find that the cream doesn't float as well (if at all) without the sugar, although I've never attempted it myself. I'd been interested to hear how you get on, if you do decide to give it a go. Good luck.

Have you guys made Irish Coffee before? Would love to hear if you have any variations on Mike's recipe. Happy St Patrick's Day for the 17th!
Add the whiskey to the brown sugar, and stir until dissolved. Then add the coffee, and stir again. Finally, add whipped cream, and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top.
One of my fave drinks, have also made it with Brandy when out of whiskey :)

Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube One of the most beautiful Irish Coffees I have laid eyes on!
I've tried it today! As I'm living in Ireland I'm gonna try every single drink they offer.
Now THATS a good drink. Better than the salted mocha I would assume for me anyway although I might try it out if its available just once

The best drink in the world, especially on a cold winter day
Drummer of Iron Maiden Amen.
Good stuff Mike, another handy way to get that good whiskey into you! You should show us how to make a good hot whiskey next
If i hadnt see the video, just listened to audio i would say that the one who is talking is Jamie Oliver. That is crazy, they sound absolutly similar.
Alex Engin Really? Hadn't noticed that.
It sounds nothing like him at all

TheVegetarianBaker Wonderfully kind words from you as usual Jac, thank you very much. Can I take it you'll be making your next coffee Irish?

Fabulous! We are making this TONIGHT.... but since we are a Bulleit family, that is what is going in. My apologies to anyone who might be offended.
TheDenisedrake Wonderful to hear from you Denise - and no problem with the Bulleit, I'm more than a little partial to it myself. In fact, I was lucky enough to procure a bottle of the rye that last time I was over in the US. Very nice.
Lovely Mike. Nothing as gorgeous as an Irish coffee
Oooooh yes. Love an Irish coffee.
Rachel Grundy We hear ya. We're right there with you. A firm fave.
I'm totally making this today! Except I'm going to use Irish cream instead AAAAND I only have half and half lol

Sounds delicious

I love this channel. great video right here. cheers
+ThunderLips Thank YOU for tuning in!
Had my first one tonight, beautiful!
Lovely!
This looks great. Can anyone advise a total beginner what type of coffee is best? And cream? Would it just be Nescafé from your house? Thanks.
I feel its great if you add whisky to Vietnamese coffee, I'll try it now
Love the cream-stache!
I have all the ingredients except the cream! I'll have to buy some the next time I pop to the shops :D
Some Irish whiskey cocktail videos wouldn't go amiss.

okey thank! allways nice to get a proffesionals view of things :)
Espresso = regular coffee... No?
I personally add a little puff of cinnamon on top of the cream, inhale ever so little as you take that first zip...
;)
steinarne79 Nice shout.
I remember the first time I had an Irish coffee. It took me by surprise because I didn’t know there was whiskey in it. But I’m want mad either.
One of the few coffee drinks that I love. Mostly because it has whiskey in it :P
ThisIsMyFullName Haha, I can't argue with that reasoning.
I made 130ml of Ristretto ardenza and 60ml of ballantines scotch whiskey. The fumes are strong enough by them own.
Cool!
Me da used to get me to make him one of these before I went to school and he went to open the bar every morning, ahh memories 😂
Awesome! i've been waiting for this one ;D
Joachim Jensen Well as the saying goes Joachim, good things come to those who wait. Hope you enjoy it.
This looks great and I want to try it, but what should I do if I'm having trouble finding double cream here in the states? Any best substitute ideas?
***** thanks!
Was Foynes airport (as it was flying boats landing on route to Poole, England), not Shannon Airport.

Cheers mike 👍😁👍
Can it be any brand of whip cream???
Hi Mike, thanks for the inspiration! I was wondering.. Why would you use a cold brew coffee and heat it up over using a regular warm fresh coffee?
Roy S. Cold brew coffee can sometimes be stronger than normal coffee, depending on how you make it. It also has more caffeine in it.
Why does my double cream sink under the coffee?

I must say, you do look kinda sharp with a moustache.
Looking dapper! 😝

Hate whiskey but luv Irish coffee 🥃👍
I saw the name Jamie Oliver, and I honestly thought that was Jamie making the Irish coffee. lol
Jamie does have a go at making cocktails on Drinks Tube occasionally - check it out! ua-cam.com/video/CQw5uqyOh_Y/v-deo.html
But where is Jamie? I came to see Jamie Oliver. You get your own channel, Mike
Was that cold brewed coffee diluted at all? or full strength
***** Mike likes his coffee at full pelt, but we'd probably recommend you using whatever strength coffee you prefer.
Unless your sensitive to caffeine, or pregnant, I can't think of a reason why anyone would not drink their cold brew at full strength. If you want to heat it up, no need to dilute with hot water, just pop it in the microwave.
where have you been? are we ever going to have the pleasure to have you bringing more coffee delicousness? hope you're doing well! : )
Do you have anything non-alcoholic to replace whisky?
Can’t be an Irish coffee without baileys
Can you make it with frothed milk on top?
Funtime It wouldn't achieve the same look or taste. The milk would blend into the coffee.
Nice. cute cream stash to
kira w Yeah, sorry about that Kira. It wasn't too obvious was it?
It looked good on ya :-)
Looks like a pint of Guinness from afar
And just as wonderful to imbibe ***** .
What is the best coffee to use, is instant ok ?
is there any substitute for the alcohol?? i know it's going to be different or not authentic anymore without the whiskey but yeah still😊😊
I dont drink alcohol, so what should I use to replace the wishkey? or can I just use coffe and double cream??
+Triana Silvia Feel free to leave the alcohol out, you'll still have one EPIC coffee.
Can you do a how to make stemmed milk video because the internet isn't very helpful on that subject
Joe Crick In the absence of a steamer, I usually warm my milk in a pan and use a battery operated frother to create a similar texture. That said, you only need lightly whipped double cream for this one Joe. Hope that helps.
I think the cameraman has sampled a few Irish coffees before filming!
Fair play to you me mentioning where it was invented
Can you use any other cream, whipped cream?🌷
Help! My cream keeps sinking :C even after whisking and using a spoon to lay it on top... is it a special cream i do not know?
Tomás León Hey, you wanna know the big secret? You have to put the cream on DIRECTLY after the boil. It has to be piping hot for the cream not to sink. Like, really fucking hot.
Why's this age restricted
Irishcoffee is great! I love you Mr. Handsome😘💋
And of course, always make your coffee with a french press. The taste is so much better that way.
Am I cool to just do it without the sugar? I'm way too used to black coffee now.
tokogon You may find that the cream doesn't float as well (if at all) without the sugar, although I've never attempted it myself. I'd been interested to hear how you get on, if you do decide to give it a go. Good luck.
Why not stir? Why is that so important, just for the authenticity? It tastes better stired if you ask me.

Can I use a french press to make the coffee for an Irish coffee?
+Flamin' Cat Yes! As confusing as that sounds!
Warms you to your toes!
I work in a resturant and whenever I put the cream on it comes out really flat and doesn't float at all does anyone have any advice :(
Before you make this , MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE RIGHT TYPE CUP (stem cup), I tried to make this without using the right cup, And it turned to Dr.Pepper
EDIT:My friend tried this with the cup, And He is in the Hospital, After Investigation we found out he was using White Sugar, Help
I would add a bit more whiskey... also I can't be arsed to whip and float the cream properly
Would this work with rum instead of whiskey?
+bonnner Only one way to find out! (And yes, it most likely would!)
can i make non alkoholic version of this coffee?
