Luaus are my favorite thing when I come to Hawaii. I got to dance with a Hula dancer on stage once before. So happy your family got to visit Aulani and enjoyed it so much. We are DVC members who own a timeshare at Aulani. We have visited four times (2012, 2013, 2017 & 2019) and hope to vacay there again in 2023. We absolutely love Aulani, and it was nice to see you highlighting so many of the unique activities at the resort. I would mention that the DVC suites come with a complete kitchen and laundry - we have saved lots of $ as a family by eating breakfast and lunch in our room, going out for dinner (there’s reasonably priced grocery stores in Kapolei - Costco, Target, Safeway, aka Vons- which is just a few miles east of Aulani). Having a washer and dryer in the room allows us to pack light as doing a quick load of laundry is a snap. We feel privileged to be DVC members, and living in SoCal (Lake Forest) we are but a quick 6-hour flight to Oahu. As the cast members say to DVCers staying at Aulani, “welcome home!” Enjoy the rest of your stay.
I love that area in hawaii Chris! The hotel next to it "the four seasons" was actually in a david spade movie. Other facts is that Marriott used to own this entire area and I used to play all over those beaches playing with baby crabs. Hawaii has a big part of my identity, you can see a memorial of my great grandfather amado palomares sr at the airport, he was such a good barber that gene autrey used to fly over to hawaii to get a haircut from him, then other celebrities would come visit. My great grandfather's hobby was photography and to this day we still have negatives of high profile celebrities such as shirley temple and elvis. Because of his good photography and friendly nature with celebrities, hotels caught on and it became a farmland to an island paradise. My grandmother was around for pearl harbor. My family has been in hawaii for over 150 years and even their farmland is now cities. Please make sure you check out the history and culture of the island because it means a lot to so many people.
I also don't live in hawaii but if you meet anyone with the last name quiseng, they are my cousin. One of my cousins was a guitarist for a band called all star weekend which used to play for radio disney and another is the world champion fire twirler.

I have NEVER made it through my Mickey Shaved Ice without losing an ear. For the luau, I am glad you enjoyed it,but hopefully you come back after Covid. Luaus are so much better buffet style. I didn’t like the proportioned bento box meals but I get it. Also, tip for Amanda…next time you string together an orchid lei or bracelet … thread the needle from the big open hole and poke out through the tip she went in from. I can’t remember exactly, but I think we used to remove the stem when I sewed leis as a kid for my grandparents lei business.

Chris If you walk around above the lazy river you can actually control the fountain and shoot water at people. Just look around and you will find the way to do it. If you need help, ask a cast member.

I wish my luau was like yours!! Still was super fun but wasn’t as interactive. We didn’t get as much food and didn’t get to make leis or anything. Just watched and ate a little.
