    your approach to dog training is different from other trainers, but it's great when trainers add their own creativity to their teaching

    Thank you so much for sharing such an intelligent clicker based heel training video. I've seen another video encouraging negative enforcement that had the dog yelping when it made a mistake and this harmful video had a lot of likes. So I'm super happy to see a good positive reinforcement based training video that's shows your dog can both be obedient and happy without you having to hurt it. I wish more people liked videos like this instead!

    Winston is so good. Of course, he has a great trainer.
    I’ll have to try this with my girl. I worked with the more basic heel positioning when she was much younger (I started her with some of your old vids with Solea) but I never did manage to get her to work with platforms and foot placement.

    I just found your channel and I love your videos and philosophy with training. I use many of the same techniques, but you are more clever and thorough and I can definitely learn from that. Do you have any advice for a puppy I have spoiled with too many high-value treats? Early on my pup was indifferent to 90% of the treats I gave her, but I found a couple which she will die for. I also didn't know all of what I was doing. Ever since I've found these treats, I've used them too frequently to train and now she gets too many calories from treat rewards instead of her regular food.
    EDIT: she is 6 months to clarify

    • @acepierceson4430

      I know this comment wasn't for me but I suggest teaching it to come and sit first. If it can come and sit call it, tell it to sit, reward it, then let it go. Or just tell it to sit and stay for a second and reward it then let it go. When you do this you teach the dog to focus on you and not the neighbors and that sitting gets treats while barking doesn't. Also keep in mind that dogs are probably going to bark because that's what they do and it shouldn't be a harmful behavior at all 💜

      you usually break up the steps into different training sessions. Try one to two short training sessions a day and build the heel behavior as you and your dog are successful with each step.

    • @slenderdomini7353
      @slenderdomini7353 5 років тому +2

      I think the first few exercises would do great for the puppy, but obviously you don't want to be doing advanced things straight away. So start off with basics, even make it into a game if your puppy is really excited!
      When I first got my dog, Oscar, I started with some basic tricks first, like sit, lie down, stay and come. I introduced leash and heel training after he had learned the basics, and slowly upped the "difficulty" of training sessions.

    I followed all the steps shown in the vedio. My dog does perfect rotation both the sides. We reached the final step also where you say reward the dog asa he touches your body while turning. We successfully passed every stage of your vedio. But then I'm not been able to get him move sideways as I move sideways or move back as I move back.

    • @jeas4980
      @jeas4980 5 років тому

      @@Jenifarr I don't think he has a tired setting. LOL. He is the highest drive dog I have ever met and I raised 2 maligators before him. He is very bright though. Took to the basic commands very quickly. But I struggle in the advanced training because of the lack of focus... stay is a basic command we struggle with. He is done listening before he is released from the command. And there's absolutely nothing, no reward, that supersedes a visit with another dog. So if the neighbors dog comes out he is outright disobedient. Which is a major problem.
