Such an important topic. So thank you for taking the time to do this. It can be very nuanced. As children we often haven't gotten into the mental habits of making everything personal. As a SA survivor I had to learn to trust my body, the physical sensations and response to individuals, groups, places, etc.. As van der Kolk's book says... The Body Keeps the Score. And we have to pay close attention if we are personalizing what we feel from another. Had you been older I would guess that there could be a high likelihood that you would think/believe his anger was about you. And off the mind would go projecting various scenarios and reasons why You made him angry. In my aged, adult experience with teachings of Projections it's been so helpful to recognize when or if I have made what I am experiencing about me somehow. Just as important I feel we also really need to check out our assumptions. This is something else not explored enough. I believe it's Don Miguel Ruiz who covers this brilliantly in his book, The Four Agreements. So much misunderstanding and harm can be done to relationships simply based on assumptions. This is so evident in comments on all social media, in politics, etc.. I love that you eventually asked that man for his truth. This connection and conversations and checking out what actually is happening is so vital. I remember since early childhood as I grew and changed being so frustrated that people would pigon hole me into their past perception of who I was and wouldn't let me grow. This is a silly example but I have been struck (for years) at how so many fans of Justin Bieber insist he should have stayed in relationship with Selena Gomez (his childhood sweetheart) some so fanatical as to insight hate for his then girlfriend and now wife. Assuming they knew what these people they don't even know need and want. Now this is projecting and assuming at it's delusional finest. And, this type of assumption and projection is prevalent on social media (as well as in everyday encounters) I've perhaps gotten a bit carried away but feel looking into Assumptions, Projections and actual Truth is where inner healing lies. Your videos are great, Jeff! Keep doing them. They are very helpful and insightful. I’ve been a seeker since my early teenage years, in my early 20’s I embraced a more traditional orthodox Cristian religion. In my late 30’s / early 40’s I started hitting the ceiling and started looking for more. I Did 1 plant medicine retreat and then big into meditation and it all completely shattered my conceptual framework that used to give me meaning… I went through a more than one dark night experiences in the past two years. As i try to put myself back together I’m finding there is so much dogma, so many false absolutes and so many pitfalls on the “awakened” spiritual path. This is exactly how it is for me as well. Thank you for your honesty. I was starting to think Utube was only for "enlightened teachers." Whatever that is.
This is the second video I have seen of yours and it is really interesting. Yes, you are helping others and I look forward to seeing more of them. I also subscribed to you channel. Have a great day. 🙏😄
Thank you! I tend to be hyper aware of my ability to project due to trauma and any time I consider that something might be a projection I get curious about it which ironically has left me open to projections from others and reminding myself of this is paradox is helpful (especially amidst the “if you see it in someone else, it’s within you” rhetoric), part of the reason I can recognize the energies is because it either is something I’m dealing with or I have dealt with in the past but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s where I’m at currently I definitely appreciate you sharing this
I'm 72 and have done shadow work for 40 years. Knowing myself this way, I have very little denial of any part of myself, hence rarely project. I am able to read people very, very well and know it's a reading of that person's energy, not my projection.
As seekers, we are told to 'look inside' for the source of a problem and it's solution. This is commonly what is occurring, but it's not always the case. Thanks!
You are obviously right. It doesn't just apply to other people''s thoughts. Some of these spiritual people talk as if all the physical objects out there are illusions. Most of what you see out there is there. We have evolved senses which mostly pick up a pretty good representation of the truth otherwise we couldn't survive.
Love this and very timely. In my own experience I feel it can sometimes be both. Yes the person may be manipulative etc but if I’m triggered by that then it’s v likely that there’s something in me that I haven’t accepted 🙏❤️
I also ask myself what I can learn from such a situation since the person 😮would not be in my reality if there were no resonance between us. So even if it's not a projection, there is something to learn from it. Including maybe something to do for the person, such as show compassion. If not that, it could be the opportunity to be centered and peaceful in a chaotic situation. Or to practice strength, to be strong, when inner knowing advises. We are presented with challenges to hone skills of following deep intuition.
Thank you, yes, "We have to be humble & we have to come from a place of not knowing & curiosity ." Each of us has our own balance between what is experienced as our own reality in relation to others. Some of us may project 90% of the time. Others may project much less. We are the person we spend all of our time with throughout each day & lifetime. It makes sense that we refer to things through our own experience, thoughts & perceptions. Life gets much more interesting when we begin to involve other people, seek to understand them, find room for both of us & explore who each of of is through our own individually unique & shared experiences. I appreciate your videos. I have listened to a few of them in the past week. I hope you continue to share your reflections.
Thank You! This video is sooo needed! It's very convenient for perpetrators to shirk off responsibility by putting everything on projection - it's actually a borderline [pun intended] narcissistic tactic.
Thank you, Jeff. I have criticized myself for feeling uneasy around some people with whom others are at ease. Then later I find out there were good reasons for my unease. Just like you and the angry man.
I've experienced this feedback that if I feel something it's because it's inside me or my projection, but I know that's not always the case. It's good to hear that. Thank you
Ultimately we just want to see the truth of the situation - the clearer our vision the easier it is to see our own projections and truth - as many have already said - discernment is key
Yes, I agree. It begins painfully, but as I move forward with self observation, the clearer I am able to notice my projections and not feel shame, but gratitude for the vision! x
Trusting your intuition, trusting the child who senses what is really going on, what is skillful to say, am I the dork here and projecting my own stuff? And from yesterday, the issue of too much emphasis on non-duality - all completely helpful. Thanks!
The Buddha said there is relative truth and absolute truth. Angry people and do forth exists, but an enlightened person will not be affected by it. So we need to know what is going on as unenlightened people, around us, if we want to act accordingly . We also need to relax and have more trust. If we have projections, they will reveal themselves as such in due time. The universe is tirelessly straightening things out for us - that is something valuable for us to understand ...
You made a great distinction between projection based on parts of us that are still blended with our past trauma and trusting our intuition when we can sense energy coming from another…slowing down enough to look with fresh eyes at each situation. I was immersed in this very question today. And…I’m full of shit. 🤣Thank you Jeff ❤.
Such a desiderat ❣ Thank you so much! I guess there is a big confusion about where the projection is taking place. We use this argument "just your projection" inside of the relativ, phenomenal world. But there are other laws active then in the big mind, in the ultimate truth. Absolute, the whole universe is just a projection. But if I am bothered by my seating neighbour in the Zendo because of this or that, it is happening in the phenomenal world and he and me have to deal with it under the laws of the relative world. But instead we send a lot of double bind to eachother and drive our egos crazy and all in the name of the dharma. So sad.
Agreed that it can be either. I think anything that shows up in your experience has something to do with you. It could be that you 'attract' an angry person into your experience because you need to help them or learn from them etc. As Bashar once said': ' You cannot experience what you are not the vibration of '
This was really helpful Past 2 threedays I was thinking about almost what u said .... It was kind of making sense to me I was really projecting to someone and not seeing their real self But it was Much betterl when I stoped or lessen my phone usage... I was able to distinguish between me and other person At the same time the ocean thing was also Going on
I am sorry to hear that. Yes, it can happen that we receive mistaken or unclear instructions and we feel confused. We must use our common sense and logic at all times to avoid confusion. It doesn't matter how famous or realised the person teaching may be. If we cannot make sense of it then we must not follow the instructions, etc. Good luck to you!!
A therapist once told me that if it wasn't in you you wouldn't even notice it in another. So that man might have been really angry but would you have noticed if you weren't also? Maybe not as much as him but...
I think it depends on « who’s » receiving : the heart, body free from the mind or the mind with all projections. Being aware of your trueself doesn’t mean you don’t feel anything anymore. But you are feeling the « truth », without stories of the mind or making a problem of this feeling. It’s just there and then it goes away like it appears.
It is definitely “time” to define what speaker is speaking from what level and only then proceed… bc at a higher level, higher than this presentation, it is indeed all a projection. In fact not even a projection but an IS, where there is no angry man out there but it’s a part of “you” awareness happening. Even higher, not even such can be defined but it’s almost like a block of Is. The. On lower levels it’s an agree man All I’m saying is everyone is jumping around levels of interpretation and this is where all this confusion comes from !
Thank you I am so much busy with this topic this days... I feel that my boyfriend is not realy connected to himself and very often I do not feel being seen... A long timecI thought it was my old wounds from not being loved unconditionaly as a child... But today I am not sure,I am high sensitiv person and my whole life I am confrontated that my feelings and what I percept is too much, just my stuff...but today there was this question in myself...is it really all protection? And now it helps me so so much to hear your video. What when there is the possibility to trust my feelings? What if it is not all about me and my old tramatic experiences. Thank you Jeff,I love your new short videos❤
It’s important to know yourself well first and also not take readings that you get from people too seriously. Yes, take your intuition into account but also give people a chance to really show themselves. And maybe take extra precautions if there are danger signals..
That sounds good to me. Maybe they are indeed the same, but in the play of duality it’s quite weird to dismiss one side (by focusing only on the projection aspect and leave the other people out of the equation).
I felt everybody's aura when l was a child. I was exhausted trying to feel safe. As an adult...l watch my perspective and descern where you begin and l end. I now never look at check out staff in the eye....cause in the few minutes l am forced to be near them...l pick up their karma. I protect myself from crowds of people. Very draining for me.
I had a dream a year ago, and i was told "you are seeing yourself in others" but it didnt make fully sense, becouse i can sense when others are sad/angry so on.. so it has been a puzzle for me, when its myself/my projection or actually them. I was living in a period with people i didnt know, via something called workaway, and one of the guys, all i saw most of the time in the eyes of him, was someone not liking me. We didnt know each other, but it kinda made me feel i didnt like him. But what the heck, if it wasnt him, becouse he didnt know me, why on earth wouldnt i like him, when i didnt know him??? I doesnt make sense! Its just one example. In a ceremony not long before that i had to write down what came through. And these 3 came first. 1. I see everything 2. I am in everything 3. You are me, and i am you The part of seeing everything, i kinda feel i truly SEE everything, no one can hide anything from me, but i have had to and still are (not soo much anymore) learn to decern what is me and them. Gosh i wish i could use this in a career somehow, i dont know how
The situation of child grape always makes me highly skeptical of the notion that "everything is your perception". Why in the name of all things holy would a kid want to project that horrific situation for themeselves?? Never sat right with me.
Everything IS a projection, because we exist in our own truman-atrix, but when you sense the other person, you are in the truman-atrix-plus. We are in our own universe and also a shared universe sometimes.
The "It's all your projection" type dogma is convenient. It allows us to personalize things we don't like to those who acknowledge them. It allows us to personalize the harmful/painful experiences of others that we contribute to; a helpful way to avoid accounting for what we do/say. To be clear, unless someone's outright lying (happens a lot in politics), nobody's projecting anything: the conditioning in us projects.
Seems to me like the starting point of this conversation comes from a place of confusion and a big misunderstanding of what projection means and how it plays out. True spirituality requires us to recognize the reality of things as they are. Empirical reality is what it is. If someone is yelling, red in the face, throwing things around, etc. That is what is empirically happening, what I can cognize with my 5 senses (i.e. what I see & hear). I cannot know exactly what they are feeling or thinking unless they communicate it to me. Projection might come in if I personalize that anger: "They are angry at me, I made this whole mess, it's my fault, etc." Perhaps this comes from past hurts and situations where a person was angry, and I couldn't process it, so I unknowingly created a belief that anger is bad or a belief that when someone is expressing anger, it is my fault and mine to deal with. Now, say that person says "I am feeling anger at you because you did X, Y, Z". Ok, now I know that they are angry at me, it is empirically true and not just a projection. I can rest in knowing that is true. But then I may project again, "They're never going to like me, I'm not good enough for them, they are never going to like me, I'm garbage, I don't deserve.....", we project stories and narratives about the situation that are usually much more exaggerated than what is empirically happening in the current experience. Now, of course, this is all 1000x more complicated because the other person might also be responding to their own projections, and their anger might come from an interpretation of empirical reality that is not totally true. It's an incredibly dynamic process, and becoming aware of projections and realities is a life long process. Spiritual maturity is going deeper and deeper, closer and closer to experiencing realities, seeing through the concepts and narratives our mind creates and projects onto situations. Practices like mindfulness, inquiry, contemplation, and many therapeutic modalities can help us cut through those processes and get closer to seeing realities as they are. Projection might still happen, but we more easily see when we are caught in a projection.
Yes if you are picking up on stuff that isnt yours i guess its in us to keep away and decide how to deal with it. So in that sense, although the problem is the other person you need to decide how to act. Or not act.as the case may be. Yes agree thst this looking to all this spiritual stuff and a way can cover up ypur own intuition. Absolutely be humble and curious!
Regarding your remarks about "sometimes it's a projection and sometimes it's not," from the point of view of non-dualism as expressed by Ramana Maharshi, Ramesh Balsekar, Stephen Wolinski, Tony Parsons, Nisargadata, Jim Newman, et al, the human experience is all a TOTAL PROJECTION AND A TOTAL ILLUSION as well. If I'm understanding you correctly, what you're referring to is when we (within the illusion/dream project our own recation/shadow stuff, onto someone else, when actually it's really only our egomind that's gone into reaction at that moment. Yes, one can have very deep, "meaningful," fulfilling (human) experiences in one's interactions with others, and while that can very feel satisfying and worthwhile, (though temporary) it's still ILLUSORY and still our projection (onto the blank screen). Accordingly, one who is quite successful in life, "well adjusted" and "balanced," and who appears to be "very much himself," is still only at the top of the human heap (within the dream), and is still living in the prison of Maya, and as such, is still quite trapped (until such time as consciousness awakens to itself and the "person" then continues in his evolution (soley by the grace of the Divine) of ever-increasing freedom. In sum, I see your discourse as a way to have a more tolerant attitute (or even an "apprectiation") for the myriad ways the ([probably] spiritualized) egomind can go into reaction which would make life a bit easier and allow more self-forgiveness, which is always a good thing. Yes, in our daily lives where the rubber meets the road we do need to be as gentle with our "selves" (egominds) as we can, otherwise our suffering will be more than it needs to be. Thus, I believe your main point to be - cultivating a more "gentle egomind-management strategy" towards its many and varied reactions, i.e., embrace and allow rather than resisting and judging one's egomind is the wisest course to take. Am I understanding you correctly here? If not, please let me know. (noimage52@yahoo.com) Thanks.
I feel that there’s never anything “really there”, never any objective truths, just judgements and perspectives which if held on to will influence our experience of physical reality, as in this case with the anger seen in the man and his later admission of the anger previously perceived. Cause: perception of anger, Effect: evidence to support the assumption and thus concluding that it is “true”, in reality it is only one possible outcome out of an infinite number.
I agree. I literally have zero of the characteristics of most people I do not like. That's why I don't like them. They are literally the opposite of me. I am not projecting my own same flaws on them. However, from a nondual perspective, everything separate cancels itself out. So perhaps the more my mind feels "righteous" I will need to encounter people who exhibit the opposite trait. It is still a projection in some way to balance the whole. The whole of humanity is not "righteous" and "good" and "moral." I can try to separate myself from that, but it doesn't work for long. Or maybe I project people to come into my life who are not like me in order to feel superior to them. Who knows. But I wouldn't put it past my mind to do that. I've seen some strange things in my life that seem to be projections of unconscious beliefs, fears, things I hate, or other things I don't want to face.
I think this is just conflating two different things, which does happen and does confuse people, but this video doesn't seem to help clear it up. For me, "It's all a projection" is the recognition that this is all created in my mind. That doesn't mean I should walk in front of busses, eat unhealthy food or ignore my intuition that someone may be angry. Those things have nothing to do with the recognition that this is all created in my mind. Responding to the appearances of the world takes skill and learning, and intuition is one of those skills. Whether or not you see that skills, and intuition, and learning, and perception and ideas and everything is created by your mind, you still have to navigate the world, and most people want to do that skillfully. This video seems to be responding to a misunderstanding about this being all in the mind, and then actually reifying that misunderstanding and then disputing it, rather than clarifying the clarifying the misunderstanding.

I appreciate your videos. I have listened to a few of them in the past week. I hope you continue to share your reflections.
Wow thank you so much. I always felt something off with the “it’s your own projection”. Thank you thank you 🙏🏽
And these videos are very helpful!!! ❤
Thank You! This video is sooo needed! It's very convenient for perpetrators to shirk off responsibility by putting everything on projection - it's actually a borderline [pun intended] narcissistic tactic.
This one is Very Helpful!! Thank you
Thank you, Jeff. I have criticized myself for feeling uneasy around some people with whom others are at ease. Then later I find out there were good reasons for my unease. Just like you and the angry man.
I am so grateful about your GUT talking... Thanks again..
thank you for sharing jeff! I needed exactly that today❤️
How I love this. Your videos from 7-5 years ago are so alive to me and now at this moment. Thank you. ❤
Tell this to A Course in Miracles students and teachers. They need to hear it.
It's a projection of Consciousness.
It begins painfully, but as I move forward with self observation, the clearer I am able to notice my projections and not feel shame, but gratitude for the vision! x
Bravissimo! Excellently put! There's so much danger in such concepts on many levels...
Trusting your intuition, trusting the child who senses what is really going on, what is skillful to say, am I the dork here and projecting my own stuff? And from yesterday, the issue of too much emphasis on non-duality - all completely helpful. Thanks!
Thank you for this video. I enjoy your old ones and new ones. 😊
Hey Jeff, I needed to hear this so, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, I really appreciate it.
Thank you very helpful information ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Found it very helpful 🙏 A powerful thing to know or not know 😆
I loved hearing this, thank you.
Thank you 🙏
Great... finally a reply : "it is connection, not a projection"... thank you!
So helpful- love this. Thank you for your content!!
So sad.
Absolutely useful video. I got a lot out of it
Agreed that it can be either. I think anything that shows up in your experience has something to do with you. It could be that you 'attract' an angry person into your experience because you need to help them or learn from them etc. As Bashar once said': ' You cannot experience what you are not the vibration of '
This was really helpful
Past 2 threedays I was thinking about almost what u said .... It was kind of making sense to me
I was really projecting to someone and not seeing their real self
But it was Much betterl when I stoped or lessen my phone usage...
I was able to distinguish between me and other person
At the same time the ocean thing was also Going on
Yes some of this spiritual stuff has really confused me and caused me to doubt myself and intuitive guidance.
@@tannhauser1mm927 Thank you so much. 🌺
A therapist once told me that if it wasn't in you you wouldn't even notice it in another. So that man might have been really angry but would you have noticed if you weren't also? Maybe not as much as him but...
Everything is in all of us, theoretically or deep down. But maybe sometimes it’s not your own issue that’s relevant but you’re just being empathetic.
Listen to the "Game of Life and How to Play it"
by Florence Schovell Shinn ~ it will change your life!
Helpfull for sure Jeff, 😘
Very true , ❤🙏
Essentially the rebuttal to the intrinsic solipsism of modern non-duality
The real question is not am I projecting but rather is what I am projecting accurate. Because everything we perceive is a projection.
The. On lower levels it’s an agree man
All I’m saying is everyone is jumping around levels of interpretation and this is where all this confusion comes from !
Maybe your perception of higher and lower is a separation within yourself
So helpful. Thank you!
thank you! it was helpful to me!
It’s your stuff *and* his stuff, it’s always dancing with each other… It seems it’s just getting reinforced by trying to separate it too strongly. 🤯
It’s important to know yourself well first and also not take readings that you get from people too seriously. Yes, take your intuition into account but also give people a chance to really show themselves. And maybe take extra precautions if there are danger signals..
Maybe danger needs attention. Maybe what we fear needs to be integrated.
I think you are fantastic, and thank you for sharing
Are our perceptions often the same as projections?
That sounds good to me. Maybe they are indeed the same, but in the play of duality it’s quite weird to dismiss one side (by focusing only on the projection aspect and leave the other people out of the equation).
I felt everybody's aura when l was a child. I was exhausted trying to feel safe. As an adult...l watch my perspective and descern where you begin and l end. I now never look at check out staff in the eye....cause in the few minutes l am forced to be near them...l pick up their karma. I protect myself from crowds of people. Very draining for me.
If its your projection you will feel it in the same way to when you are just picking up shit.
1. I see everything
2. I am in everything
3. You are me, and i am you
The part of seeing everything, i kinda feel i truly SEE everything, no one can hide anything from me, but i have had to and still are (not soo much anymore) learn to decern what is me and them.
Gosh i wish i could use this in a career somehow, i dont know how
Thank you so much❤..really
Its a shift depending on age. When we are Kids its different...
The situation of child grape always makes me highly skeptical of the notion that "everything is your perception".
Why in the name of all things holy would a kid want to project that horrific situation for themeselves?? Never sat right with me.
I resonate with the struggle!
Thank you
objective reality is real.... we may not percieve all of it and project it but they are still real...
Everything IS a projection, because we exist in our own truman-atrix, but when you sense the other person, you are in the truman-atrix-plus. We are in our own universe and also a shared universe sometimes.
You are trully help me!!!! yes you do. Thank you
The "It's all your projection" type dogma is convenient. It allows us to personalize things we don't like to those who acknowledge them. It allows us to personalize the harmful/painful experiences of others that we contribute to; a helpful way to avoid accounting for what we do/say.
To be clear, unless someone's outright lying (happens a lot in politics), nobody's projecting anything: the conditioning in us projects.
i was hoping i was an empath but i see where this is cumming from ❤❤
We need you Jeff. Ireland
Thank you for bringing it up!! I was wondering about that for weeks, and I still struggle to know sometimes if what i feel is projection or not.
After this video, Jeff is my teacher now…❤
Regarding your remarks about "sometimes it's a projection and sometimes it's not," from the point of view of non-dualism as expressed by Ramana Maharshi, Ramesh Balsekar, Stephen Wolinski, Tony Parsons, Nisargadata, Jim Newman, et al, the human experience is all a TOTAL PROJECTION AND A TOTAL ILLUSION as well.
