The best thing about your channel Marco, is that whenever I am studying something, I find that your videos always make it easier to understand. I shared this video with a classmate of mine. Hope all is well friend.
Finally, someone explained it all correct. I thought it was only me who considered all this ''Red-Right-Return'' completely misleading, and only works partially. ;)
I find ships and sailing fascinating. Especially maps and charts..my kitty cat loves your opening sequence with the seabird calling. He's fascinated too. Happy Holidays!
3:50 First time I've ever encountered someone bringing this up! Thank you! Damn confusing! I always enjoy your videos, and get something from each one.
I now live in Florida but still keep a boat on the Puget Sound. To get up to date on signage on the ICW, I came onto this video. Very well done, and it is so good to see charts from my "home" waters being used for the demonstrations. Oh yes, the Comox Bar, a crossing of that in inclement weather can be very interesting. Cheers.
Superb video - very well explained, concise and clear. Very much appreciate your time and the effort that goes into making these. Happy sailing - from region A !
Well back! One of the clearest examples I’ve seen. Thank you. Read returning makes absolutely no sense in my mind, not only because I sail in the United Kingdom but it’s ‘conditional’. I solo sail 99% of the time so I’m subscribed :)
Another brilliant tutorial. Clear and very thoughtful. So looking forward to your single-handed sailing tutorials. This is what I will very likely be doing. Your experience and exceptional tutorial skills are very welcome. Great to see you back!!!
Good, useful, articulate. Just one thing, similar to all documents I have come across, Taiwan is marked as being in region A when it is in region B. Regards to all fellow boaters.
I do cover both regions quite emphatically Athena beginning of the video, but since I’m from Region B I have a few more examples from Region B. Please watch it again and let me know how it goes
Hi It's the first time to me to know about this chanel. so thanks for your video. Yet I am from A Reagan. (Mediterran sea) I would like to ask if you know, way there is 2 kind of method...A or B ? Is it's true that it's something hestorical from 2world wore..? (as I learn) Thanks for your time.⛵
Dreaming of going sailing someday. So much of it seems almost deliberately opaque. The lingo is silly and makes it hard to learn. The rules of the "road" and the signage seems laughably convoluted considering it's purpose is to clearly communicate danger.
Thanks for the comment James. Sailing is an old past time steeped in tradition. To me the language and jargon serve to enrich the experience and connect me to a glorious age long past. On the surface to a layperson the Rules of the Road and Buoyage may seem convoluted but it serves a very complex and dynamic environment. Simplifying, especially internationally, is not as easy as one might think. Once you start to learn the rules and the nav aids you start to understand why it seems so convoluted.
50 plus years sailing and I completely understand your concerns as a novice. from the outside it can seem daunting. but guess what, other than basic navigational rules to avoid running aground and such, there isn't much at all necessary to getting going! if you haven't already I suggest you just get started sailing on a small boat in a protected area. A friend or acquaintance will do just fine. you don't need to know any terms they will come in time... and they actually become fun. there are thousands and thousands of sailors out there of varying degrees of knowledge... you don't need to be expert to have a great time. the only things that are essential is how to stay safe such as checking your weather first, knowing the basic navigational markers to avoid running aground or colliding with another boat, and of course wearing a PFD and being very careful not to get banged by the Boom! wishing you all the best
The World got it's act together, it is the US that is the odd man out, as it is with so many other standards! The areas around Japan and the Philipines, ect. is due to the strong US presence after WWII.

Thanks Bud, glad to hear it. Things are good here. How about you?
This topic gave me massive confusion until now. Thanks for the video.

Thanks Leo! Apparently great minds think alike ;-) I appreciate the comment.

Thanks for the instruction and "show" notes. You're awesome for helping the rest of us with coastal navigation.
Our pleasure TC. Thanks for the comment
Welcome back, missed you and you videos.
Thank you Christopher. Much appreciated
One of the clearest explanations I've seen. Great job. 👍
Glad you think so! Thank you.

You are so welcome Robin. Thank you fo the kind comments and for subscribing. Welcome aboard!
Welcome back!!! Great review!! Makes complete sense why the ICW is “backwards” in certain locations. Looking forward to your single handed videos!!
Thanks!
Great episode. I'm getting back into boating after about 8 years and this really helped my memory.
I'm delighted that you found it helpful. Thank you for the comment.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It’s much appreciated.
My pleasure!
Great video, thanks for putting it together. The animations were helpful. Looking forward to the single handed videos.
Glad you like them! Thanks for the comment

Thank you for clarifying
New here it’s good to see this kind of video it helps a lot
Welcome. Glad that the video is helping you on your journey.
Very interesting. Yes, Region A is opposite of Region B as I recently experienced in those waters. Most of my sailing has been in the U.S. Thanks!
Thank you for the comment
Opposite but the east and west coast have opposite directions that mean you are "returning" wtf lol
Thanks for the info sir..
You’re welcome. Thank you for the kind comment 🙏😊
Sir Very useful video
Thank you 🙏
Thank you for doing this for us. I'm region A have I missed the Nav Aids tutorial for my area? It looks like it's just region B on the video.
I do cover both regions quite emphatically Athena beginning of the video, but since I’m from Region B I have a few more examples from Region B. Please watch it again and let me know how it goes

I wish I knew. I have not been able to figure out why they decided on two regions
What type of buoy/beacon would show this FI (4) 15s 28m 12m ?
Lighthouse. The giveaway is the 28m and the 12m. Height of 28m and visible for 12 miles, flashing groups of 4 white light

You should have done separate Region A and B videos, this is confusing to newbies.
Thanks for watching
as usual the world cannot get it together for uniformity and safety
Very true Andy. I don't get it!
The World got it's act together, it is the US that is the odd man out, as it is with so many other standards!
The areas around Japan and the Philipines, ect. is due to the strong US presence after WWII.
Region B is wrong so I had to skip this vid so that my mind wasn't messed up.
How is Region B wrong?
This vid has 48 thousand views and you’re the first to mention it 🤔
Region B is wrong for me too, and I need to stick to videos for the UK otherwise I too will get all discombobulated! and remember things wrong.
@@mhd5826 The UK is in Region A so obviously Region B does not apply, it is not wrong
To off putting in UK we do it our way
Thanks for the comment
