My friends and I had the pleasure of meeting Mandy in November of 1995, in Toronto. To cut a very long story short, he treated us to a show when he found out that we couldn't afford the tickets. My friend Michelle is disabled and he asked me to lift her onto the stage after his curtain call. He sang "Children will Listen" and then gave her a big hug and kiss. That was an experience we'll NEVER forget. What a lovely guy he is!! :o)
He's one of the rare performers who has really improved with age. His voice keeps getting richer and richer, his emotional depth just better and better.
Still has the pipes I see, respect to any man with the balls for stage performance. Odd his career remained slightly below the radar of the "A-List" one of many VERY talented people who never really got the respect they worked hard to deserve while other "less respectable talents" selfishly absorbed the spotlight in their place.
The effortless versatility and sheer warmth and intensity in his voice is staggering. Truly among the top five Broadway singers of all time!!!! RANGE. *coo*
Before I scrolled down and noticed this, I was wiping the tears from my eyes too. I am also a straight 41yrs old man. But I think what did it is that I'm a father and I love my boy with all my heart - GREAT performance Mandy!
getting tickets for his concert at the kodak la. seeing mandy perform has been a dream of mine for years! my daughter made my other 2 dreams come true (itzack perelman play the violin and michel barishnikof dance live) this is my christmas present. My whole life i have done theatre, acting and directing, and there are very few that admire as much as this man. i am so excited, and only hope and pray that he sings this song. since this concert is just him with his piano man, i can hope!
I had no idea, I only knew Mandy from Criminal Minds. I'm so glad I stumbled onto this part of his career. It makes me think of how Freddie Mercury would be singing in his 50s....
Maybe he was just having an off day? I met him at one of his London shows in January, and he was so kind and polite, and made sure everyone who wanted an autograph got one, though he was clearly pushed for time. He strikes me as a gentleman, who can be moody sometimes, just like the rest of us!
Did you also know that he performed the role of Dr. Jeffrey Geiger in "Chicago Hope?" Now, that was an unforgettable character, to put it mildly ... :o)
I first heard/saw Mandy in an off-broadway play called "A Day In The Park With George"...which also stared "Bret Spinner"...aka: "Data" from the Star-Trek: Next Gen Series....Mandy does have a really GREAT VOICE! When you see him on TV (Criminal Minds), you'd not think he could sing as good as well as he does!
Mandy, I apolagize...you were on a Dr. Hospital Show. My fave. There was a song you sang, playing piano. I fell in love with you, that moment. Chicago Hope? When my feeble mind remembers, I walk around my place cleaning and singing soprano! It's got to be G--Aweful, but I love you! Such a talent! Would it be "Send in the clowns"?
Well, I don't know if "Evita" could be classified as an opera, but he was Che in the original Broadway production and won a Tony award for his portrayal, in 1980 ... :o)
Ummm ... this guy was Che Guevera in the original Broadway production of "Evita" AND he won a Tony award for his portrayal. He's one of the most talented singers around. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with sexual orientation, period. By the way, he's not gay.
He actually did a very moving rendition of 'Always' in an episode of DLM, of the same name - you know, the one where Rube visits his daughter Rosie in the nursing home and sings to her?
OK so what was the intro he sang? That was something different something about "second hand man" sounded like "sandman" the first time he says it at the very beginning". The actual song "Cats in the Cradle" doesn't start in this video until 1:30 into the video.
Why are you complaining, Karen? That is so trivial. They uploaded a live experience. Surely you realize millions of cell phone vids are uploaded for people to enjoy. And many have enjoyed this one. What do you want? Only high quality camera and audio work? Go to the fuckiing show then.

Heard the story already on another one of his songs🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
@Dot McFarlane. That's Mandy for sure! He's a wonderful person. Great story. Thanks for sharing.
He's one of the rare performers who has really improved with age. His voice keeps getting richer and richer, his emotional depth just better and better.
This wonderful man never ceases to amaze me
The emotion he can put into the song...that's LIFE...right there...
Mandy Patinkin is wonderful in whichever role he sings and acts. He is like no other; so kind and true, caring and passionate.
This song makes me cry. Mandy is amazing, and his range is incredible!!
Again Mandy, you move me to tears. What a beautiful voice and such emotion. Love him.
That made me cry my eyes out it is the most beautiful voice ever
You kids missed the best part. Before his tv/movie career, Mandy was a GREAT actor/ singer on Broadway! An amazing talent..
He has alway been a brilliant performer, I started listening to him sing on Chicago Hope. Such a captivating voice and soul.
My hands-down favorite actor/singer - whatever! He
can do just everything and with a voice to die for!
And he's a lovely man to boot!
I've heard this song a hundred times. But this sent chills up my spine. It was like hearing it again for the first time.

Odd his career remained slightly below the radar of the "A-List" one of many VERY talented people who never really got the respect they worked hard to deserve while other "less respectable talents" selfishly absorbed the spotlight in their place.
He was doing this a heck of a lot longer than he was doing tv shows. He is incredible.
The effortless versatility and sheer warmth and intensity in his voice is staggering. Truly among the top five Broadway singers of all time!!!! RANGE. *coo*

Love this version. Certainly made it his own. Was refreshing to listen to.
been a fan for years. His emotional involvment is what makes for a bonding with the listener. Talented siger/actor.
Thank you whoever posted this. More please.

You made me LAUGH OUT LOUD with popcorn in my mouth! :-O
Thank you.
I'm familiar with this from his CD Kidults, which I'll admit is one of my favorite CD's of all time. :)
Amazing
wow agent Gideon, you do sing like an old holylwood star...you are one indeed!
@The3Stooges One of my favourite movies of all time - Mandy and Billy Crystal the reason why. Love him
he's truly remarkable
Wow. Just wow.
Well, I don't know if "Evita" could be classified as an opera, but he was Che in the original Broadway production and won a Tony award for his portrayal, in 1980 ... :o)
he has such a beautiful voice
I agree.........I love him,he is my ideal man!
Mandy.... you make me crazy........I love you so much
never thought he could sing. i knew him as a criminal profiler.
@macflyfilm Amen to that! If you are able to feel real emotion, it doesn't make you gay: it makes you human.
he is a great tenor.
Yes. He's saying "God bless you" to Harry Chapin.
@TheLouloutte2003 he's actually a broadway star too
Ummm ... this guy was Che Guevera in the original Broadway production of "Evita" AND he won a Tony award for his portrayal. He's one of the most talented singers around. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with sexual orientation, period. By the way, he's not gay.
just...wow.
My mind is blown *faints*
❤️❤️❤️
Master!
You know good and well you are talking about a role in a movie - Princess Bride!
He actually did a very moving rendition of 'Always' in an episode of DLM, of the same name - you know, the one where Rube visits his daughter Rosie in the nursing home and sings to her?
I'd love to have seen him as Rube sing like this!
So that's what happened to Rube. Nice to know he made it to heaven.
👍❤
@klandersen42 He was singing Japanese Sandman.
On what occasion did he sing this? Seeing his "God bless you ..." at the end I'd say it was a tribute to someone. Does anybody know to whom?
Who would have known that Sam Fransisco from "Alien Nation" would sound like this...
Damn straight.
OK so what was the intro he sang? That was something different something about "second hand man" sounded like "sandman" the first time he says it at the very beginning". The actual song "Cats in the Cradle" doesn't start in this video until 1:30 into the video.
Silly response ... this song was a tribute to Harry Chapin ... listen at the end.
Good for you Agent Gideon
Opera? I didn't know he did opera. When was that?
ahh Yes..that's it..my apologies for getting it wrong! :-)
Mandy, You can sing me to sleep every night. *sigh*
@The3Stooges I. love. this. comment.
No it's true, Mandy does have a mean streak ... I saw him kill a guy once just because the guy had six fingers on his right hand.
@MelloJason But this time sing for us.
@The3Stooges WRONG! he killed him to avenge his father's murder
oops meant 60s.
It's such a fucking awesome version but this quality makes my ears bleed brain!
Bump. Still love you're radiation. 😊
didn't realize that he uses so much tremolo.. he probably doesn't have to.. well. oh well.
That's called virbrato.
Wow! This is very far from Jason Gideon! Allthough he´s good, this is not how I thought he would sound like.
That guy had killed his father, as I recall....
why upload an amazing singer in poor sound quality :/
Why are you complaining, Karen? That is so trivial. They uploaded a live experience. Surely you realize millions of cell phone vids are uploaded for people to enjoy. And many have enjoyed this one. What do you want? Only high quality camera and audio work? Go to the fuckiing show then.
and I take it, you sing much better?
Can you have a good voice and still be dreadful? Patinkin proves you can.
