    Well done Dawn. Another extremely well presented video including the introduction of your "Brief Encounter" layout. Presenting a model in monochrome is truly a unique concept in modelling terms and so I wonder how many will now follow this trail blazing concept.

    Really like your monochrome layout, an unusual but effective concept. Sadly I couldn't get there as work got in the way. Nice to see two of our club's layouts though, Locomotive Graveyard and the Hornby Dublo Ipswich to Weymouth layout.

    The show was very good with some terrific layouts. But Brief Encounter stood out. Not just for the innovative use of monochrome but also for the sheer amount of detail and humour included, and getting the atmosphere and feel of the movie just right. Great job!

    I have previously seen your _monochrome railrway_ featured in some of your other videos.
    What amazes me is HOW WELL you fabricated it to look _monochrome_ SO CONVINCINGLY. Until about one minute into this video -- where you {in full color} are standing next to the layout {in monochrome}, I thought maybe the _video footage_ in the other vids was just _rendered entirely IN MONOCHROME._
    GOOD ON 'YA, DAWN!

    • @Allan_aka_RocKITEman
      @Allan_aka_RocKITEman 6 місяців тому

      BTW, when you feature footage of JUST THE MONOCHROME LAYOUT and nothing else, my BRAIN keeps SCREAMING that _"IT MUST BE A FULLY MONOCHROME VIDEO!"_
      I really am AMAZED and how complete the illusion is...👍👍
      *EDIT→ **_"32 DIFFERENT SHADES OF GREY"_* -- _Dawn_ writes a novel about a _torrid love affair,_ set on a passenger train...😉

    Monochrome! What a great concept! I’ve been a model railroader since I was a kid (63 now), and I can honestly say I’ve never seen, thought of, or heard of, a monochrome layout! Kudos to you for thinking outside the box (or bench work?) and trying something totally different! (That sounded like a Monty Python line, didn’t it? Happy new year -early!

    As I was saying before I inadvertently hit the send button on the tablet, you should take Brief Encounters on a world tour, perhaps start at the diametrically oppersite side of the world being New Zealand 😊 the layout looks absolutely enchanting, well done.

    Having just seen the film last week on Turner Classic Movies for the umpteenth time, I doubt if anyone viewing the layout will forget your wonderfully atmospheric interpretation. As Dr. Harvey said to Laura, “I want to be remembered.” I’d say that’s definitely a safe bet, Dawn. Cheers.

    I have been involved in this hobby for almost 50 years and this is the first monochrome layout I have ever seen! It really captures that 40s look. Nicely done. I would be curious about signaling a railroad like that; one would have to use semaphores or "position light" signals, and even the latter would be tricky since there are no "gray" lamps. Probably would have to stick with white lamps with maybe a touch of shading.

    I always like to see something new and innovative when I visit a model railway show, but most of the time I am disappointed. Not so at the Woolwich show. "A Brief Encounter" was the highlight of the exhibition for me and there were also some other great layouts on display.

    Triffid's Florist, lovely - great sense of humour there... some great layouts with a truly eclectic mix of everything.

    Starting at about 03:01 in this video -- the exchange between _Dawn_ and _Grumpy Cameraman_ -- reminds me of a joke:

    A BIG FWIW: The American layout featured in this video prompted me to mention why I like trains {both model & fullsize}.
    My primary hobbies now are Rocketry & Kites, especially _Kite Aerial Photography_ or _KAP._ {Yes, it is real, just Google _KAP._ 😉}
    That said, when I was a kid I had at least one HO model train layout.
    Additionally, the neighborhood where my parents house was located in St. Petersburg, Florida {USA} was roughly half a mile to a mile west-northwest from a _Seaboard Coast Line_ railroad yard. {Looking on Google Earth in recent years I discovered that railyard is gone now...😞}
    Although I have been living in North Carolina since 1995, I was born and raised {as I mentioned previously} in Florida. However, both my parents were _"Hoosiers,"_ or what you call people from Indiana. For most summer vacations, my parents -- with me, their only kid tagging along 😊 -- would drive to Southern Indiana and stay with relatives in the city of Mitchell. I do not know all the particulars, but Mitchell, Indiana was {and maybe still is} the site of multiple railroad lines crossing through the city. Walking, bicycling, or driving over railroad tracks was a common thing to do, and was required when going from my Aunt & Uncle's home where we stayed into the city of Mitchell itself. {Mitchell is a very small town. Definitely a CONTRAST from St. Pete.}
    Seeing that railroad stuff in Indiana over multiple summer vacations -- plus the railroad activity at home -- gave me an 'appreciation' of railroading. It was also on those vacation trips, back in the VERY-PRE-INTERNET days {1970s}, where I first saw examples of _"Hy-Rail"_ systems where road trucks and other work vehicles carried adapters allowing them to be operated ON railroad tracks. Quite an _amazing_ thing to see for a boy like me...😊

      I FORGOT to mention there was also a passenger train station in St. Petersburg a few miles from my parent's home.
      When I was a small boy, my Dad would drive me there sometimes to watch trains come in. Good memories...👍
