Travis are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1990, composed of Fran Healy (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Dougie Payne (bass guitar, backing vocals), Andy Dunlop (lead guitar, banjo, backing vocals) and Neil Primrose (drums, percussion). The band's name comes from the character Travis Henderson (played by Harry Dean Stanton) from the film Paris, Texas (1984).

This song was always thought provoking to me and still is. 20 years ago when I heard this I was 20 and thought that it was very relatable and kind of a song for daydreamers. Now at 40 I look at it and think if you want your grass green and a life of harmony just water your own grass and take care of what is within your control in a positive loving way so that it may project and be accepted by the community you create.

The moment that machine starts to beep, i get such a swell of emotion. When it builds and sustains itself, it almost makes me cry my eyes out. I have no idea why I feel so connected to this song, if it's pure nostalgia or something else, deeper in me. This song is one of the most precious pieces of music to me. I will listen to it forever.

It’s a combination of the build up of tension in the song and what’s going on in the video that releases all kinds of emotion and fantastic special effects from that moment onwards. I think it’s one of the most well done music videos of all time.

I first heard this song while on active duty. I liked it so much that I took the leap and bought the CD. It turned out, I got lucky because the whole thing is great. Still, this is my favorite song from it, even after 20 years. Travis is definitely underrated.

I've always felt that this was someone looking down from heaven or whereever they are every time I watch this video or listen to this song, I just never knew unfortunately one day it was going to be my youngest brother who tragically passed away in tragic circumstances 2021. My dear older brother passed away September of 2005 and it was devastating for all of us! But in my heart, I know God brought him home but in my mind, it's easier to believe that he was abducted by aliens! That way, I can at least have a glimmer of hope that one day, he will be returned to his family! This song not only reminds me of him, but a great comfort, as well!
