I got to see Janis Joplin and the Full Tilt Boogie Band on a Sunday afternoon in Kansas City at Memorial Hall , a friend talked his Mom into taking us, we were 12 or 13 , and had a blast , Sea Train opened the show, I was very lucky to have seen her
Always and forever the best. Half a century later the legend lives on. I am sorry for their loss which is also our loss as the world is missing one great voice and soul

Rest in Peace. just like her brother and Sister are. Very nice people from Texas
What I love about Janis is that she soared way above all who shunned her. She did it because it's who she was and she went for what she wanted. She didn't get famous to throw it in their faces. Sure wish she was still here.
If there was one person that I would love to party with or just hang out with would be Janis Joplin I love everything about her she was a beautiful woman beautiful soul and one hell of a reble. She should have been added to the rock and roll hall of fame way before 1995. My God bless her soul forever. Just imagine what she would be like today the music she would have done I am just so thankful that we got to hear her voice for a moment in time. But her songs will last forever. Amen to Janis Joplin..
My little band opened at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit for the MC5 and Big Brother and the Holding Company when Janis was the vocalist. She sang between tugs on a bottle of Jack Daniels, amazed everyone in the place, knocked us out. Everyone fell in love. She left it all on the stage, didn't let up till her show was over. Was amazing she had enough energy to carry herself off the stage after what she gave.
Janis was even on a postage stamp, she overcame so much trauma from her teen yrs. and time in college--I lived in Orange, TX 56-66 as child, not a nice place, went to Port Arthur many times--same deal--I can still relate to the pain of her time there and I'm 64, so glad my family got out

Although I profess I was never a fan of J.J., I can seen NOW, 50 years later, how hugely significant she was as a symbol of grass roots rebellion, in most of my life I was mostly a conformer to society - unless something was really outrageous - now as I age I see how full of nonsense and injustice much of society is.........for instance, European colonialism is still viewed and taught in many education systems in Western Nations as benevolent and paternal, when in reality it was exploitive and subjugative, this is just one example, there are multitudes more. yeah her family never seemed sympathetic regarding her career. but she wasn't a blues legend to them, she was their daughter and sister, and they had to watch her destroy herself in the process of becoming a blues legend.
@broskijohansson Janis’ family did not watch her destroy herself. During her final visit to Port Arthur, Texas, the guys who accompanied her to her parents’ house drank until they passed out. Janis drank in her parents’ house but not nearly as much as the guys. You can find this information in Myra Friedman’s book Buried Alive. Peace.

Janis couldn't possibly have said that because it makes absolutely no sense. No one who grew up in Port Arthur, as Janis did, would say that PA is "20 miles up it", since Beaumont is upriver from PA. @Julie Furaitor - I read the 1992 edition of Buried Alive. Myra Friedman came across as obsessed with describing Janis’ drug and alcohol abuse. After Myra resigned from her job at Albert Grossman’s management company, she refused to get another job in an office. She mooched off Janis’ memory from 1973 until her death in 2010.
No it wasn't funny then. What was funny was something told me , soon as I saw this guy , he was going to say something inappropriate like that . " ANGER IS OUTRAGEOUS, AND WRATH IS CRUEL, BUT JEALOUSY IS WORSE THAN THEM BOTH " THE HOLY BIBLE
Jeff Cory I don’t think the audience appreciated his vile anecdote, bragging about how his friend wanted to use her body in exchange for a recording of her song. The audience gasped. cwb0051 Can’t really compare. Don’t know about Mozart, but Paul speaks of his brother often. Paul also had a wonderful upbringing. His father taught him to play piano, and fully supported Paul in his endeavours. Janis didn’t have that support.
what they think of how they saw her mattered to her and matters to them how you think they saw her is groundless fantasy, no matter what rumors you heard or project as surmise
Cleveland sucks! No way this queen of blues should have been sold like this for ratings! When is the last time you went to Cleveland to listen to anything? Get real!!!!!
was visiting my very straight but way cool cousin in Cleveland once we saw Muddy Waters live Yeah, it was Cleveland. But YEAH it was Muddy Waters & being in Cleveland did NOT turn him into Liberace.
Wow! Typical hater! People are so cruel. Especially when they are most likely just jealous. Janis was beautiful inside and out. Even after being bullied, when she could have turned cold and hateful herself. No, instead she touched the lives of so many people in such a positive way that you have no idea of her impact. You are a sad sad person for making a comment about her like that. You should take a long look in the mirror. And I definitely mean to look way deeper than the reflection you see. That is if you can stand it. God Bless!

I wanted to smack this guy upside the head for daring to mention this at her induction ceremony, and I hope Janis kicked that Armin guy whom silver haired dude referred to, square in his privates for suggesting such a thing to her. This jackass tried to ruin a beautiful moment where Janis was being honoured. What a disgusting person.
Janis sister Laura and her didnt get along very well..Now Laura Lives off the money from Janis..
first off this is quite a statement for you to make, as if you know but any sister knows we go through those days growing up it's called family and maybe you think you'd be entitled to live off her instead?? people just get over yourself i'm sure she doesnt have a bad feeling taking care of family (business) she wasand always will be a legend but even legends have faults and high points
Usually the siblings of Famous people are insignificant. Do you know the siblings of Paul Mcartney, Mozart, etc...
cwb0051 Can’t really compare. Don’t know about Mozart, but Paul speaks of his brother often. Paul also had a wonderful upbringing. His father taught him to play piano, and fully supported Paul in his endeavours. Janis didn’t have that support.
@@cwb0051 McCartney's brother is quite well-known, or he was for many years.
You guys have no idea what your sister means to me.
Rather inappropriate in front of her family !
I think her family saw her as a nuisance, and an embarrassment
Where is your evidence of that??
She gave them a lot of grief growing up. What did you expect?
what they think of how they saw her mattered to her and matters to them
how you think they saw her is groundless fantasy, no matter what rumors you heard or project as surmise
Cleveland sucks! No way this queen of blues should have been sold like this for ratings! When is the last time you went to Cleveland to listen to anything? Get real!!!!!
was visiting my very straight but way cool cousin in Cleveland once
we saw Muddy Waters live
Yeah, it was Cleveland. But YEAH it was Muddy Waters & being in Cleveland did NOT turn him into Liberace.
I didn't know she had kids.
@Jo O Reilly - Janis Joplin never gave birth or adopted a child. She was survived by parents, a sister and a brother.
michael joplin is a hot mess.
REALLY!!!!
Janis Joplin ... living a HARD life... going down fast... The face looked like leather...
What a terrible thing to say
God Bless!
Jean Jones Found one of Janis’ bullies from Port Arthur! Were you the one who voted her “ugliest man” in college?
Janis has moved generations with her music and spirit. What have you done? ✋🏻😑
Jealous?
She had terrible acne as a teen that required sanding. She didn't choose to have acne.
