I’ve watched ALL the serve videos on UA-cam and bought ALL the serve courses. Then I watched ALL the UA-cam videos again and, this time, I watched ALL the Instagram videos as well. This happened over the course of 6 years where I spent an average of 12-16 hours a week on the courts. After doing all of this, I had a shit serve. Then…I stumbled on this video…I don’t know how I missed it, but now I have a 115mph flat serve and I can kick the ball as well. This is the video that made everything click for me. Thx, Grant. Just so you know, your tip about leaning back and turning 45 degrees away from the baseline *transformed* my serve! I was easily a 3.0 serve and now I'm 3.5-4 in two seconds. Amazing! Thanks for this! I don't really ever have to worry about double faulting again just from that tip.

I remember playing a lot of 4.5s as a 4.0 and they would crush my kick serve. Then I started tossing the ball out front and learned to hit a top spin serve and holding serve is so much easier. Great video!
Grant, you the man! spine extension with lateral band, focus on elbow, these are the tips that most UA-cam tennis channels never mentioned, probably because it's hard to achieve, Jeff Salsenstein and others may mention staying sideway and lateral bend but not quite as clear as you did. I'm sure you will become one of the most popular online tennis instruction channel!

Great video. If you added in the importance of leg drive with a good knee bend, plus the importance of a trunk rotation to crest whip effect, then it would be a perfect serve video I have ever seen. Love your work!
4.0 club player here. I am rebuilding my serve that degraded over time. I have implemented the first part - shoulder rotation, shoulder tilt, spine extension - and this has already yielded effortless power. If any one of these three is missing, it's powerless serves or serves where I have to manipulate the racquet to save the shot. The spine extension in particular I was missing for a long time. With it, I feel like I have "room" for the right shoulder to go up. Without spine extension, the shoulder has to go around and it's not an efficient trajectory. Anyway, looking forward to implementing the two others. Great job Grant, and thank you. You have some very special skills with regard to teaching tennis.

Best tip for me was the tilted racket head at point of contact. I was always trying to keep the rack staight up while making contact. Just tilting the racket not only increased my serve speed but also helped with keeping my first serve in. Great tip!

GREAT VIDDDDDEO. I've watched dozens and dozens of serve videos, and for the most part, they all churning-out the same information. This is the first video I've seen that mentions one important yet subtle fact: if you don't drive with your legs at the RIGHT TIME, you won't access most of the stored kinetic energy you have in your body (from body position.)

When i did my junior coaching course (Tennis Australia) - Serves and Forehands - are both similar to a baseball pitch. The serve is technically 2 throws - tossing the ball - and throwing the racquet - Power position (or unit turn) - rotation - using leg power (larger muscles) first - uncoiling - through your mid section - to the racquet.
Love your energy! You’re like the Crocodile Hunter of tennis! I like the tip where you describe the racket head position in relation to leg drive. Looking forward to trying this!
What’s great summary, Grant! Racket tip up, before the leg drive, and keeping that racket radially deviated at contact using a maximum runway to power the shoulder into the contact point was too good. It’s the perfect checklist!

Hi Grant, there were a lot of takeaways from this video but I think the number one for me was the radial deviated position of the racket head before contact. That would have to account for a lot more power.
Brilliant video - the exact right amount of breakdown. I've watched so many other videos, and there's was so much breakdown that I could never really "feel" what a proper motion is. Wow great video I literally sprinted to the courts by my house and ripped out a bunch of serves focusing on the first tip about the trunk. I focused on that and felt like I was making my chest as wide as possible and was ripping them felt great thanks 😊

I think my favorite part about this video was you going deeper into the form and explaining not just what to do, but why. Why am I tilting my body up, why am I tilting my body 45 degrees, etc . All for more power.
You put it all together what I have been working on with much more detail re the stages also very clear. My one issue I have is can I do this serve without aggravating a long term back issue I have ? which I did playing/practicing golf 8 yrs ago. Recently I have stopped trying to do this type of serve as my back was very stiff the next morning. You make want to go back to it as my serve is so much less effective when I just hit it with minimal back and leg action. Thanks you have put together an excellent video so many helpful explanations.
