I really had to hold off pronouncing it Har-bin-Jure, mainly because the Gatekeeper insists on saying Har-Bing-er. I felt it best to humour him. Also to those with a keen eye. This is the 2nd upload, because I made the wrong video live first time...
I literally paused the video at 11 seconds to say 'well... harbingers isn't pronounced how i thought it would be at all', maybe we should call him the gah-tee-keeper from now on.
being a massive nightmare/atmosfear nerd (having all of the games and the card game) I purchased this a few years back through ebay for the grand total of £3(1p plus £2.99 postage). The included atmospheric cd, to be played at the same time just adds to the tension.
Ever thought about covering the 5 minute cartoons that we used to get on morning TV? Back in the day when a 20 minute episode was stretched over a whole week.
I loved the original Nightmare in the US and did not know it existed, I actually have an idea for a game like this that I am developing now, I would love to bring this back. Interactive horror games bring people together, and I love sitting around a table, I could not play this version of nightmare sharing a desk, not for me, great vid!
I swear the VHS version of the harbingers hexagon board, changed on each play through… the cassette was completely opaque and you couldn’t see the mechanisms inside and I was convinced it was doing something clever inside with multiple timelines and false endpoints that it would rewind to randomly. I lost it before I had a chance to take it apart to investigate.
Holy crap, would that be an issue of PC Zone featured in the video? I used to subscribe to that magazine, back in the day. Then I ended up writing for it, years later.
For giving this game a puny 4 out of 10 the Gatekeeper banishes you to the Blagole!! Happy to see Octav1us Kitten on here, found you both at around the same time :)
Oh and I had dual cd drives too. Sorry NN if you may have of disliked me back then if you knew me. But all comes at a price as I lived in the sticks and had no friends remotely near me so I was given computers to keep me busy. All worked out generally though as I'm an IT Manager for a large firm in Chicago.
That's a great game. I played both the VHS and DVD version. My Sister has the DVD version. If none of you ever played it. It's time. Get some buds and enjoy it!
Great video, always glad to see Atmosfear getting a mention. Any thoughts on the Star Wars and Star Trek VHS board games? Also, 07:44 - I believe the game won't let you turn around after you've started down a certain path, in much the same way that board games won't allow you to go backwards mid-move.
Thats what my wife says " You can do it the hard way, you choose the level and i will do my very best to make your life a misery"..... i dont even need to choose a level....she does it anyway :-( Great video mate i loved this back in the day....it was scary back then...in a way that Nightmare on Elm Street was....we laugh now but back then it was sh*t your pants scary haha
Anything with weird eyes really freaked me out as a child, especially anything with light coming out of the eyes! Laurie Anderson’s O’Superman with light coming out of her mouth scared me s***less too.
I did own the original Nightmare game, but the novelty eventually wore off after a few sessions with different groups of friends and family. Is your 24X CD drive spinning up for each FMV? I seem to recall having an issue with early CD games requiring 4X or less that they would lag when I played them on a faster drive that took a moment to spin up, as I would think that said games weren't designed expecting such a delay before the drive began reading data.
I need to get back into tabletop games, one of these days. All this workload is stressing me out, but it'll be worth it when I graduate in June. Also, that's a nice telly you've got. :)
Some one downloaded the entire "Nightmare"/"Atmospphere" VHS video. OMG you got to check it out. It is 80's GOLD! RRRRRRRRROLL DA DICE! LETTEL MAGGAT!!!
Lol, I still have this game, I was and still am a Nightmare/Atmosfear nerd, I just gotta get the second booster game tape and a few jigsaws and then my collection is complete, I even have the fan made “Nightmare: A New Nightmare Begins” along with its Card game. I remember making fan made booster games by downloading the whole tapes of Atmosfear and Atmosfear: The Harbingers in different languages so the video differed from the English tapes, and then I muted the Gatekeeper when he showed up and I added the sounds from this game to make my custom commands, doing this method I made “Atmosfear Booster Game” a fan made booster game tape for the first game, and then I made the unofficial Booster Game Tape 3 and 4 for Atmosfear: The Harbingers, I also was gonna make a unofficial 5th one, but I never finished it, looking back at them, they sucked, there’re pretty cringy XD but interesting I guess. Btw, no I didn’t upload them online, so to those who are curious to see them, don’t go looking.
I had a MITECH personal computer with two optical drives one being a DVD reader and the other a CD/RW writer drive and would make for a great system to play that game on but ran (haxxed version of) Microsoft Windows XP Pro which I swapped out for Windows XP Home edition.
7:20 The loading is slow because the damn cd have to spin up to 24x speed (with the drive you're using) and this take time. If you had a 4x cdrom drive, it would have been much quicker since it doesn't have to spin that fast to get to load the data! This is exactly why i'm using a 4x cdrom drive on my 486 DX2 66Mhz, to avoid those stupid loading lags. use a 4-8x cdrom drive or use the ISO and mount it on a virtual drive.
It was also called Atmosfear here in Spain. I remember playing it back in the day in VHS. Not very fondly. Btw, I wonder if you received the Vega Solaris and stuff. You haven't made and unboxing video in a while ;)
I wanted the board game so bad when I was a kid, but was expensive. My mate got it so I went round to play, it was so boring lol. p.s You two would clearly make an amazing couple! Love both your channels. 👍
Marcelo Peltier no, man. SMARTDRV is for both, HDD and CD. And it *IS* cache. MSCDEX is just a layer which allows CD-ROM to be visible in DOS/Win3.x, it has nothing to do with speed. Hint: type Smartdrv.exe /? and find CD-ROM in its output.
I used to like me a bit of nightmare, I think ur a bit older than me I'm 33 but I remember it and all the mad stuff like index catalog etc you reminisce on
My late brother had the VHS board game, I was never allowed to play it, "too scary" apparently, somehow, I don't think it'd have done anything to me fright-wise, it's not like it's a cat meeting a cucumber... :P
I want to punish one of you now!!!! I have the original still at my parent's shed we had a great time. I liked the sequel even better with Baron Samedi. Same guy used to be on a Guinness advert here in Australia.... "I like to watch!"
I had the original in mint condition. Burned up in my house fire along with my Jim Morrison autograph. Amongst others....... Bummer even with insurance.
I really had to hold off pronouncing it Har-bin-Jure, mainly because the Gatekeeper insists on saying Har-Bing-er. I felt it best to humour him. Also to those with a keen eye. This is the 2nd upload, because I made the wrong video live first time...
Definitely Har-Bin-Jer
Har bin jer sounds like something I did to a girl I met in an alley that night.
I always find it best to stick to a games pronunciation then you can't be told you're pronoucing it wrong.
well now i'm hungry.
I literally paused the video at 11 seconds to say 'well... harbingers isn't pronounced how i thought it would be at all', maybe we should call him the gah-tee-keeper from now on.
Anyone who rented vhs in the late 80s and early 90s Australia saw this on the rental cassettes hundreds of times, was a big hit for sure
0:57 Your Microwave takes VHS tapes! :)
Mine does too! but only once.
being a massive nightmare/atmosfear nerd (having all of the games and the card game) I purchased this a few years back through ebay for the grand total of £3(1p plus £2.99 postage). The included atmospheric cd, to be played at the same time just adds to the tension.
HOW THE HELL DID I NOT KNOW THIS GAME EXISTED!!! I WAS A HUGE FAN OF ATMOSPHERE!!!!
Trust me. It's best you didn't.
Ever thought about covering the 5 minute cartoons that we used to get on morning TV? Back in the day when a 20 minute episode was stretched over a whole week.
Atmosfear
I saw the dvd edition in buenos aires last year
Wow, a VHS microwave @0:56
I presume that's why the picture is just static. Food rammed in the slot.
Hehehe, I loved that ad :D
Today the Nostalgia Nerd gets banished to the BLAGOLE!!!
I loved the original Nightmare in the US and did not know it existed, I actually have an idea for a game like this that I am developing now, I would love to bring this back. Interactive horror games bring people together, and I love sitting around a table, I could not play this version of nightmare sharing a desk, not for me, great vid!
I have the DVD one, Atmosfear I believe. I also played Nightmare on VHS years ago. Love them. Didn't realize this had a PC release!
Oh boy, Spoony'd have a field day with this one.
BLEGOLE
Palpatine's first video game appearance huh
ADR i said the same thing lol
derp sidius
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one
I have the board versions of the game since a long time ago.
It's the first time i hear someone else than myself talking about it. I'm glad now
Those were the days when 33MHz difference in CPU power made all the difference.
I swear the VHS version of the harbingers hexagon board, changed on each play through… the cassette was completely opaque and you couldn’t see the mechanisms inside and I was convinced it was doing something clever inside with multiple timelines and false endpoints that it would rewind to randomly. Holy crap, would that be an issue of PC Zone featured in the video? I used to subscribe to that magazine, back in the day. Then I ended up writing for it, years later.
Played this back in the day. Now the Gatekeeper feels like Tommy Wiseau.... "Oh Hai Maggots! "
For giving this game a puny 4 out of 10 the Gatekeeper banishes you to the Blagole!! Happy to see Octav1us Kitten on here, found you both at around the same time :)
Those eyes look like the eyes on the 3dfx voodoo graphics big boxes
Did you see the Board James episode on Nightmare? It is pretty good.
UNLIMITED POWER!!!!
I came across the Nightmare board game completely new in its shrink wrap at a garage sale a couple years ago. It was pretty fun to play.
Woah didn't know this existed! Great find once again man
Oh and I had dual cd drives too. Sorry NN if you may have of disliked me back then if you knew me. But all comes at a price as I lived in the sticks and had no friends remotely near me so I was given computers to keep me busy. OMG I remember the board game! I used to play it as a kid, and basically forgot until now! Such nostalgia...
Why is the desk from the lap area down blurred?
Chedarmentos Brown i think it's just an extension of the webcam to fill the screen
They have their genitals hanging out.
Calico Dan thanks for clearing that up. I was starting to get a head ache squinting at the screen.
That's a really cool looking tv with the vcr on the side!
I wondered why my movies were always sideways, I thought it was a VCR with a TV on top.
Nightmare was AWESOME!
Holy crap, there was a PC rendition of this?? I had the original board game growing up and had no clue there was a computer game based in this series.
Yes. It slipped under the radar didn't it?
The Gate Keeper sounds like he's trying to be the one and only, the man, the legend, Mako.
Remember the TV show Knightmare? used to be on a Friday afternoon. I would love coming home from school to watch it.
Yep, voice activated friend battles demons wearing a +1 Helmet of Can't-See-Shit and using various shite found on a table.
Those were good days.
That Panasonic TV/VCR looks very cool
had this on VHS.... didnt know it was also a game on pc!
This is so cool, the pc game is the only thing missing from my Atmosfear/Nightmare collection.
VelvetTeacake proof?
Anything with weird eyes really freaked me out as a child, especially anything with light coming out of the eyes! Laurie Anderson’s O’Superman with light coming out of her mouth scared me s***less too.
I liked this game as a child and would love to see things like this in vr

The jumpscares scared the crap out of me
Soo...... the only real question is: Does she also wear a tail to go along with those cat ears?
She's been known to, check out her channel in the description.
And now they’ve released a 30th anniversary version through Kickstarter! 👻
Some one downloaded the entire "Nightmare"/"Atmospphere" VHS video. OMG you got to check it out. It is 80's GOLD! RRRRRRRRROLL DA DICE! LETTEL MAGGAT!!!

Oh snap its the Emperor lol
Now we know what he was doing in between the first trilogy and the prequels.
We used to borrow Atmosfear VHS from our local video store.
I had a MITECH personal computer with two optical drives one being a DVD reader and the other a CD/RW writer drive and would make for a great system to play that game on but ran (haxxed version of) Microsoft Windows XP Pro which I swapped out for Windows XP Home edition.

Can you do Atmosfear the Gatekeper and kufu dvd games.
The DVD version is quite nice in its kind, if I remember well there is also the dvd version with the Khufu mummy.
Omg it is like emperor Palpatine and Klingon chancellor Gowron merged together.
That box reminds me something you would see on a PC video card box.
Did you guys forget to wear pants?
I first played this game when I was about 5 and I was a bit young for it, it terrified me!
Have you adopted that kitten? She seems to be following you everywhere.
I had a friend who had a "thing" for the witch in Nightmare III.
Looks like the Emperor is in a bad mood tonight...
I remember the ads on TV clear as day. Never knew anyone that owned it though.
Only knew about the board game because of Spoony. Surprised there was a PC version of it.
(7:36) Oh no - der Kommissar is in town.
From Australia, never heard of it, might have been a bit too young as I was 2 at the time.
The gatekeeper on this VHS could be a good quentin tarantino look-alike :O
Didn't Russ Abbot have a hit single about atmosfear?.!!
I wanted the board game so bad when I was a kid, but was expensive.
My mate got it so I went round to play, it was so boring lol.
p.s You two would clearly make an amazing couple! Love both your channels. 👍
1:40 My coffee came up my nose! XD
7:52 channeling your inner Gatekeeper there?
3:36 You should totally review Deus ex machina for ZX Spectrum!
If you run on DOS or Windows 3.1 you can add MSCDEX.EXE to your Autoexec.bat to make the CD-ROM run faster. www.easydos.com/mscdex.html
looks like he's using win95, I don't think his compaq has a fast CD rom drive
Marcelo Peltier you meant SMARTDRV.EXE /x
'cause w/o MSCDEX.EXE DOS/WIN3.x won't see CD-ROM at all
No, I meant MSCDEX.EXE. SMARTDRV.EXE is only for hard disks.
I used to put that audio CD for reading
how do you get the game runnning on modern PC'S
Aww bless, peter’s showing off his bird 😂
I used to like me a bit of nightmare, I think ur a bit older than me I'm 33 but I remember it and all the mad stuff like index catalog etc you reminisce on
Wow... Now I want to rewatch the old Spoony episodes and fondly remember the time when... Uhm... Before... Wow... What happened...
I've wanted to pick up the VHS version so many times since it's been at a local game shop for literal years now just gathering dust
I had dual cd-rom in 98 and 99
I'm a little worried about the pixelised censorship when you were playing. Is there a pants-only policy in Nostalgia Nerd central?
0:22 settle down lady
No clik on snek 5:31
I don't think anyone has dual CD drives in 2018 either
My late brother had the VHS board game, I was never allowed to play it, "too scary" apparently, somehow, I don't think it'd have done anything to me fright-wise, it's not like it's a cat meeting a cucumber... :P
Sounds better than Google Stadia!
0:54 - Oh my god. That's pure sex.
it seems I have shat my pantaloons...
well this game was called Atmosfear so why was it renamed nightmare in most regions?
oh ok but still compact disc or dvd load times are annoying but it's limitation again.
It was also called atmosphere in the us
The way y’all pronounce harbinger is hilarious lol
Ah, the random shit I watch at 544am
I miss Spoony...
I have Atmosfear board game, but I have the DVD version, it's retarded, 'fly around like a bat'? fuck that noise
ghost train's coming kiddies.
Listen to it scream
I want to punish one of you now!!!! I have the original still at my parent's shed we had a great time. I liked the sequel even better with Baron Samedi. Same guy used to be on a Guinness advert here in Australia.... "I like to watch!"
derp sidius
That TV looks like a microwave
THE BLAGOLE
The real horror here are the dad jokes tho >.
Looks familiar
I had the original in mint condition. Burned up in my house fire along with my Jim Morrison autograph. Amongst others....... Bummer even with insurance.
1995Supra Black the supras good?then u good hahah
Gerard Cowan My Supra died in the fire as well. I did replace that though of course. She's well worth it.
