This was the best episode of the season so far in my opinion because we finally got to see not only a battle but dragons fighting which is what the show is supposed to be about the dance of the dragons
The little nudge Sunfyre gave Aegon II in the pit, and then how he landed on his wounded underside and coiled his tail around Aegon to protect him even when burned to a crisp summed up their relationship pretty well. It's a shame we never saw more of Sunfyre, but I kinda feel like the writers thought showing their bond would make Aegon become way too sympathetic to the viewers. But these little signs and details are still great.
1:28 Actually if you watched GOT's behind the scenes for this episode. The actor who plays Aemond said he basically assassinated his brother at the council. So the intent of speaking in high valerian wasn't mercy, but to expose Aegon's deficiencies, in both language and war tactics, in order humiliate him in front of the entire class so to speak.
Yeah it's true. There was such a beautiful moment when she tapped Meleys before commanding her to attack, it was almost as if to say "this could be it".

It’s insane how much like ‘real life shit’ feelings I felt from a look between a cgi dragon and an actress who did the scene on like a bucking bronco in front of a green screen but like wow I did. Like I know there’s a lot that the throne does for you but when she was looking at Meleys I feel like there was kinda recognition her face that she’d brought Meleys here with her choices and she’d brought her there to die with her and I don’t think she felt necessarily guilt but those dragons are just too good for this family
i truly can’t remember the last time an episode of television had my heart racing like this one. i knew what was coming for rhaenys and it didn’t ruin the suspense or thrill at all. definitely the best episode in the series so far (series as in specifically HOTD, not franchise overall lol)
Aegon literally drinking and driving his dragon, he deserved this but Sunfyre did not and The fact that Rhaenys got taken out by her daughter's dragon and didn’t think her death would make me emotional like that damn. Just the bond portrayed between her and her dragon was emotional asf.
Rhaenys should have flown back to Dragonstone after taking out the king and his dragon as well as burning a good chunk of the attacking army. She had a chance for a tactical retreat. Her and her dragon are a huge asset for the war effort. Trading one small keep for the king and his dragon seems good in a war of attrition with limited dragons. She would have also brought back good intel for a counter attack.

As a result her decision not to flight from Vhagar, when she could even present it as victory, has no logic. (As well as s1e9 when Rhaenys killed damn a lot of small-folk in order not to kill the Greens.) But to give the show its credit, dragons fight was amazing and Meleys farewell heartbreaking.
This interpretation of Rhaenys's story, motivations, and emotions is wildly off base. She wasn't drifting away from Corlys, she showed no signs of feeling guilty for not killing the Greens (she literally said "this wasn't my war to start" and she appreciated Rhaenya going to see Alicent to "attempt to pull us back from the abyss"). She volunteers to go to Rook's Rest because she knows she's the only one who can. She's the only dragonrider who isn't the queen, her heir, or her granddaughter (or a literal child, in Joffrey's case). She knows it has to be her because she's the only one who is expendable and she turned back to fight because she was a warrior and she knew she had to TRY to take out the Greens only battle-ready dragons. She also wasn't detached from reality and the look on her face as she died wasn't peace, it was deep sorrow at the death of her dragon and her own death that she knew was about to come. Also, I'd guess, a bit of guilt that she wasn't able to take out Vhagar and that she won't be able to continue to fight for Rhaenyra.
I don't remember events happening this fast in the books. I thought these things would happen in the last episode or next season, things are ramping up for sure!
Hopefully this will satisfy the wild faction of the fandom that has been complaining for the lack of “action”. I actually enjoy the scheming and clever interactions just as much as a fight.

Aegon was eager to prove himself in battle and he had the smallest dragon out of the three! Meleys was winning and Aegon saw Aemond and was relieved for like a second. Aemond wants to be king so bad. I'm dying to know the aftermath of this battle. I think everyone is going to have different perspectives of the battle and what they saw. I wanna know what gets to Alicent because she won't tolerate this brother against brother drama!

Aemond was sheathing his sword before Cole called out to him. I think he had his sword out to defend himself in case there are enemies around since it's a battlefield. Doesn't change the fact he tried to kill the king, just an observation.

The woman is spoken of in the books as a character so she is real but the drink didn’t seem to actually do anything or they didn’t convey its purpose well enough.

I've read the books and I know what happens but I disagree with this. Why would a video about the show need to do research into what happens in the books. Obviously this is a video for viewers who haven't read the books and want to conjecture and stay spoiler-free. Not everyone wants to read ahead and find out what happens.
This was awful. I almost wasn't going to watch HOTD because of dragon battles, then after season 1 I thought I'd at least give it a try. I HATE seeing these amazing, magical creatures suffering and forced to turn on each other to serve the petty interests of a few useless aristocrats. It was bad enough seeing Arrax go down (and Dany's dragons in GOT), but this scene was just the worst. As spectacular as HOTD is, with off-the-charts acting and symbolism and all the rest, I don't think I'm going to continue watching the show. Mythological CGI depictions of fictional creatures notwithstanding, I was only ever Team Dragon in this conflict. The humans brought this situation down on themselves, the dragons are just tragic casualties. Like all animals in all wars.

Alicent unintentionally motivated her son king to go fight. I would say she played a significant role in this episode.
