As memey as the last tip is, it's genuinely really good advice. We underestimate how smart we are. Your brain just picks up on things by watching them. Long time watcher of the questron stream and I just one day hopped on and noticed I was dying less often. Because I had subconsciously copied their positioning. It had gone from an abstract concept to something I was practising constantly just by watching! "Where do I translocate before the fight starts?" My immediate answer before was "nearest high ground" but now it's more like "which high ground lets me deny the enemy the value the high ground brings? And what then lets me reposition to deal with everyone else?" It's not a conscious thought, but seeing questron always go certain places over others and having to rationalise that eventually just left me a better player. Watch people better than you, your brain will learn why they're better and copy them.
I can 100% attest to this. Watching stream and just seeing how questron takes engagements, thinks about fights, and pulls off amazing tp escape angles it has really helped me analyze my own play and improve a ton
The worst is when you tell someone why you’re doing x and just need ONE dmg or heal to make it work but then they’re like “no you’re bronze you don’t know anything” it’s literally a top 500 play just enable it omg
HOT TAKE: If you are not GM take most of these tips to heart he is exactly correct. however once you get to the gm-top 500 as a sombre main some things change. you don't always want to be invisible and flank the enemy's (unless out of position then go for the flank) a 5 stack will tell each other you are behind them. you are NOT and I repeat not using her to her full advantage. Her dos passive is enormous to help your team and her emp is a team fight winner. Put it simply: As you first engage, if there is no one out of position for you to capatilze on stay with your team from the front line (off angle of course) but near them and just shoot the tank and backline applying the dps passive. think about it okay you're gonna stay invisible till someone messes up? Your team is now fighting a 4v5. Apply constantly damage to them and wait for someone to be able to capalitze on. I know this sounds confusing to do but I have hit GM and top 500 4 seasons in a row with sombra (I had a little tracer in one of those seasons lol) but to make it even better her virus got buffed as well. This is a new type of play style I have learned from some of the top 500s and I was like that fr works? and then it clicked into my head. I was stuck at GM3 Wondering why I couldn't rank up it was because I was playing sombra the way before season 9. Anyways good luck
Thank you!! I needed to hear this. I recently started Ow2 from OW days, and love Sombra. I like the changes. But I find myself feeling like I always have to get picks from backline, and if I don’t, I’m useless. With that mindset, I find myself forcing to engage with the backline even when it’s early disadvantageous to me. Knowing now that an effective Sombra is one that can recognise that there’s no picking off and then being able to switch lanes to front (angles) is going to change the way I play! Old mate mentioned hacking is pointless if you’re not sure what you’re hacking; would you agree with this? I’ve been hacking to use the virus for my DPS; should I not do this?
That sounds like really good advice. Thanks. By the way when you find a support or dps on their own do you even bother using hack? Or just virus and headshot them?
Thank you very much Questron! For taking the time to make this video and to help others. One extra thing that I would add, as a long-time Sombra player myself - (which you kind of covered, but is hard to teach) is just for Sombra players to go and get a lot of experience. Playing against certain comps and heroes definitely affects playstyle, remaining flexible as Sombra is highly important :D For example against another Sombra, you may want to play back with your team, and protect them from the opposing Sombra/Ball/Dive etc. Against a big wall like team, you may want to play more aggressive in their backline to make space. Knowing when and how to play the off angles has never been more important. It's definitely a character based on team/game sense. And I love her for that! The skill ceiling really is high. Knowing abilities, maps, that one mega health pack at the end of Junkertown haha. Knowledge is power. When a healthpack could be valuable to a teammate, when to jump in with a teammate (e.g. Winston), and how best to flank with a party member. To distract, or go for a kill. Resource/Utility/Damage/Nullify/Capture Point. Sombra's the real wildcard. It's a shame sometimes that the score cards don't always show it xD but we love her anyway.
Your thinking out louds paired with watching stream as well as now implementing these tips you’ve helped me elevate my sombra play to levels I didn’t think possible! Thank you Mr. Ron more heat as usual from Questron!
Only time spawn camping is useful is when your team lost the last fight but killed one. So you can kill that person again to reset their death timer and get back to the fight before it starts. Even then though if you don’t have enough time to be able to set up and get a good position, it’s not worth it.
wanted to comment that too. only time you should consider spawn camping, but even then in the time that takes, you could throw 4 viruses and get 20 percent ult without ever endangering yourself
Hack also makes them take more damage for 8 seconds, and if they get hit with virus, they take even more dmg! My strat is to sneak up behind, hack, virus, shoot to death (if clear) or shoot/tp (if spotted). Squishy will die if not healed.
You can soawn camp but you got to do it to someone worth spawn camping bastion, mercy, 76, etc. just dont do it at th start wait until your team has pushed further into the map. Really really works well on escort missions after the first point. Also use your voicelines when close to enemies to cast confusion. They will start blind firing and stop what they are doing. Also virus does double damage if they are hacked so yes keep hacking your enemies.
Is tip “stop engaging with hack” still your suggestion for this patch, where hack causes and extra 25 damage from virus? For players with not great aim that extra damage could be important
well, stop engaging with hack has been Questron and many other Sombra players like Fitzy since Virus came out. Hack doesn't do anything on its own in most situations. Like Questron said, If you use it to stop something it is useful but it is a much smarter to throw virus first then hack if you plan to hack in such a situation because it'll speed up the tick rate. but Virus by itself still opens many opportunities such as distracting opponents, wittling down health for your team, making it easier to kill that Widow who if hacked doesn't lose almost anything by being hacked. It doesn't help hack shoots out massive lasers to tell everyone on the enemy team where you are so you can get a hug from the Enemy Tank. T;'dr: yes. aim takes practice, throwing virus less or not as frequently won't help with said aim.
Hard disagree on the **NEVER** nature of the spawn camp advice - and I'll disagree by citing a fundamental Questron lesson: **Maximize Uptime** by spawn camping when there's not something better to do. Spawn Camping has value - it just often doesn't have the value other things might have (especially given the value of the DPS passive in general - doubly so when coupled with your virus DoT); therefore, Spawn Camping is an opportunistic tactic, not a core tactic. There's definitely a place for it though. Team lose a fight but the enemy lost one? You can move to their spawn, kill, then be back for the fight without much issue (stealth speed boost + tp = a lot of movement). You've nothing else to do in the moment but wait for your team to respawn might as well be a PITA to the enemy. Oh, they sent people back to babysit? Do your job right and that means your team has a window of 4v3 or 4v2. Also, there are absolutely matchups where I'd gladly trade me being out the fight if it means their hero is as well. If you asked me "Would you remove yourself from the game if it meant their Bap was also removed from the game?" I'd take that trade every time - my team wins that trade, hands down. If I'm also winning that 1v1 on the camp as well? That's not just gravy, it's a whole train. Flip side: Team likely winning a fight while the enemy team's first death has come out and is contemplating re-entry - esp. if you think they have a stabilizing ult? The "mid-point spawn camp" has big value there - delay or kill a returning support then TP back to your team. Etc. "Spawn Camp" does not just mean "Lock someone in spawn" - with Sombra's movement, it's easy to harass the backline, take a jaunt to gak the returning Zen, then immediately back to target the remaining support. Especially on push and flashpoint - Sombra can just bounce between the backline's buttcheeks and the enemy spawn without every wasting more than a second or two in transit.
So are there situations where spawn camping is worth going for? Like during the downtime of a team fight or when your team gets wiped? Does the map/mode factor in?
Unhacked target + Virus = 125 damage over 4 seconds Hacked target + Virus = 150 damage over 2 seconds Idk, Questron, it feels to me like those two seconds could be the difference between confirming a kill or not, especially since every squishie hero now has more health. Even in Gold, which is where I started out, everytime I did anything to the backline, people would turn around and spam their healing on a low HP target. I think now more than ever it is almost necessary to hack before you Virus because not doing so means the target doesn't die fast enough and their team can respond in time to save them. Baiting out cooldowns is cool and all, but it's not enough when the target actually gets to live.
On paper yes, but in practice it's more complicated. Hacking will let your target know you're after them, so they'll start moving around to avoid being shot, which means you may miss your virus. If you start with virus, you guarentee the fact your virus will hit, and get a few shots in (or maybe hack if your target has the ability to escape or defend themselves) before they start moving around
@@zartoru_ But overall, it's way less damage, and less damage means that not only do you have to shoot them for longer to get a kill, but their supports will likely have the ability to respond in time and shut down your engagement. It also means some targets you hack will be able to respond themselves in time. Using Virus on Ana and shooting her is useless if she can just nade the floor and survive the engagement. Same thing with Kiriko (with teleport and suzu), Mercy (who can outheal your damage with her passive and can GA away), and many others.
So I’ve played sombra for a while now and I’m legit stuck in bronze but I get like 4-5 so kills per death and I’m stuck in bronze, any tips? I normally just target isolated people by hacking, instantly virus and if it lands I empty the clip then finish with a melee because my aim sucks haha
You should make a video critiquing this: I think either her Virus should have homing or her kit should be more oriented towards harassment like a combination of sym and zen. For example: You could silently hack someone from behind at a slower rate, and once you release the hack.. however much progress you hacked them at would reduce their defense by that much so you could punish people who aren’t being observant(as all you would have to do is look around to avoid getting hacked for too long, and even then she could still get the edge she needs to properly 1v1). People who you hack for 2 seconds minimum(and then let go of the ability or get attacked mid hack) get -5% defense and get ability locked for 1 second, but people you hack for like 6 seconds(as the max limit) get -20% defense and get ability locked for 3.5 seconds. In the last 0.9 seconds of a full hack, the purple prompt starts like how her hack works currently. As you hack, the longer you do.. Sombra and her hack tethers will slowly become more visible to enemies, but no indicator will prompt the currently being hacked target other than if they turn around to see you or the hack almost finishes. If her hack is interrupted, she’ll be combat stunned for 0.3~ seconds but the hack will still go through. This makes it so she’s still slightly punished for being caught, but still has a chance to continue with her attack instead of completely needing to dip out of battle to reset her approach.. and if the opponent is a quick damage target like Cassidy or Hanzo who can kill her quick.. she won’t have as big of a window for escaping. The 2 seconds minimum gives Sombra a chance to make sure she’s hacking the right target in case she locks onto the wrong person without alerting her target that she tried to hack them, and the silence contributes to her gameplay as an assassin character. Ability Lock wouldn’t outright disable ultimates, but would lock the user from actually activating the ability mid ultimate(like if Bastion was hacked during his air strike, he would still remain in his Airstrike form.. but would be locked out of using his power for however long the ability lock is). It would still disable normal abilities like it does right now in the same fashion, but with its new timing effect.. the hack is more unexpected, and less spammy to just shut down people chaotically. It would disable normal abilities instead of just locking them like it does with ultimates, since just locking someone in an ability wouldn’t prove very useful against the majority of the roster(especially against stuff like bastion where being locked in his mini-gun ability just doesn’t matter since he actually WANTS to be in it. That’s why having the punish for stopping her hack early is important: while the hack will still go through and take them out of their power.. she’ll be combat stunned for a little bit and her target can get ready to fight back quickly). Targets being hacked while in an Ultimate state could be hacked at double the speed. Virus’s bonus speed for hitting hacked targets would apply only if the target is ability locked from hack. This prompts players to actually hack longer to get more utility out of Virus as well. And instead of having players simply get wall sight on a hacked target, it could show them as the target is being currently being hacked so teammates can actively see your next target instead of who you already hacked(and potentially know who to target). Supports heighten the ability for teammates to make plays of their own, and Sombra is not a support. She’s a DPS, so she should be able to make plays on her own to help lean the fight. If she gets a good full hack off, she gets a nice advantage for taking out and punishing her unobservant target. Her Virus is strengthened, and her outright kill potential is boosted. If she just does the bare minimum of 2 seconds to hack, she’ll have a harder time killing the opponent.. but it’s better for quick moments when the fight gets intense and something needs to immediately be countered. She could also go for the sudden approach by barely not fully completing the hack, the purple effect won’t show, and as the prompt triggers when she lets go of the ability.. she won’t get the full hack bonus, but she’ll get first strike without giving the opponent as much of chance to react as well. This is a nice mid-ground approach for dealing with targets currently in the fray. This would be more effective against lower health targets, while a full hack would be better against tanks for a longer defense reduction and ability lock to deal with their large health pool, and a quick 2 second hack would be best against ultimates or stuff like Mercy to interrupt their ability. And as for her Ultimate.. maybe it could apply as much hack effect as a 5 second hack to everyone with only a 1.3 second Ability Lock, but also take 0.7 seconds to activate if she’s revealed, and a bit longer if she’s hidden since she’ll need to de-cloak. All of these numbers and variables could be tweaked, but I seriously think this would make her into an extremely fun and adaptable hero. She would actually FEEL like a hacker instead of just some annoying random hinderance who usually can only play one type of way. She would still be annoying, but instead it would be about as annoying as getting headshot by a good aim Hanzo: The player actually has to understand the character and play them well to use their really good traits like a pro. Oh, and maybe keep her overall DPS with her primary the same.. but change it so it’s like a middle ground between a soldier and a bastion in scout mode. Same spread, less fire rate, more damage. Overall the same amount of damage over time, but it would make her damage feel a lot more solid and honestly would make assassinations a lot nicer than a spray like you’re an off brand tracer.
As a gold DPS picking up sombra, I am so tired of hearing people say " You should be flanking 100% of the time, get behind them". Bruh, if it was advantageous to do that I would. I'm not going to waste time walking all the way behind them only to get boned when 3 people turn around to doink me. I can hack the tank from the high ground or throw my virus onto somebody overextending. Sombra can absolutely be a mid ground poker while staying with the team. I'm trying so hard to get back into plat, but good lord people don't make it easy.
but like, hack an enemy on a ambush is risky, but doing this you accelerate de tic dmg giving less time to the enemy to react to the amount of dmg in less time right ?
Virus: Sombra's alternative source of damage. Sombra throws a projectile at an enemy target or object dealing 25 impact damage and 100 damage over 4 seconds. ***** A hacked target will immediately take 50 impact damage and 100 damage over 2 seconds. **** .... why wouldn't you open with hack to get the extra burst damage ?
@@donrtowery is it really worth risking the entire engagement and dying for the chance (because you can still easily miss the cube) of 25 extra damage?

My somb level is 148 and dude you helped me . i like playin with plats rather than diamond and higher . these dudes dont like you and just want you to switch . dude shyt the funk up this aint your account i wanna hack em all why bothered?
1. Invisibility is your escape not the translocator 2. Don’t spawn camp, it’s not worth it 3. Don’t open all attacks by hacking first unless you can point to the exact ability to lock out for 1.5s (yes, even with the recent hack-virus damage buff) 4. Use teamwork 5. Watch the stream and watch the thinking out loud videos on the Tube.
Is hacking someone not good beacouse it increases dmg of sombras projectile??????? Just asking couse u said hacking for no reason. I hack and instantly throw projectile…
But hacking increases the speed of the received dot damage. so if I hack that ana and instantly smacking a virus on her and shooting her face the chances are roughly 80% higher of a successful kill as she can't throw her bottle until she is dedge that comment is only true if you are going to hack her without having the chance of offing her right away. same thing where I laugh when I play mercy and enemy sombra hacks me without virusing me. I can still keep healing *insert jacky chan what meme*. The stuff you mention here is except for one tip rather common sense than real help. The "Smokebomb" was new to me. I'd rather think if I insta stealth myself while the enemy can see me will rather end up them just shooting at me with me being instantly hit because i wasn't going anywhere "away" where they need to re-aim to with me already being able to "move" while falling down reducing their chance to hit me when trying to hit me when I get out of translocator.
@@akumatsubasa4162 when I made the video impact damage only did like 10 extra damage, the current situation kinda ruins ambiguity-- hack virus if you can hit it is always better

Idk, Questron, it feels to me like those two seconds could be the difference between confirming a kill or not, especially since every squishie hero now has more health.
Tips that ACTUALLY HELP in my rank!? THANK YOU!
I came back to overwatch after almost a year and I always initiated a fight with hack. Until I found out that it doesn’t increase your damage anymore…
@@AidenVincent-yu2sd getting 100 kills when it doesn't matter still makes you lose, you gotta go for the one kill that matters instead
You should make a video critiquing this:
I think either her Virus should have homing or her kit should be more oriented towards harassment like a combination of sym and zen.
Thanks !
I noticed youy barely hack the healpacks : why is that ?
The Ludwig b-b-bye now. Bye sub-subscribe bye 😂
the craziest part about #1 is that its literally how ive gotten better with sombra lol
I'm trying so hard to get back into plat, but good lord people don't make it easy.
this is so true bro
wow amazing i am now top 500 sombra after these tips
Rank exploded after seeing your channel fr
What is the correct way to use Sombra's Ult? This is the final piece of the pazzle for me
its usually the Q button
watched while playing sombra so far i have 29 kills. very good
im top 1 after watchin your streams. thank youm guarateed
but like, hack an enemy on a ambush is risky, but doing this you accelerate de tic dmg giving less time to the enemy to react to the amount of dmg in less time right ?
I'm worried they're going to super nerf Sombra, every game I play everyone complains about her in the chat
questron upload mentioned
great educational tink tanking
sombra can be fun but i love ana! so fun and versatile
"you were eliminated by Zezima" as it should be
I only spawn camp when they got a zen... its an unwritten rule you MUST go spawnkill the zen
When i was watching his stream i had a 70%+ winrate on sombra
Virus: Sombra's alternative source of damage. Sombra throws a projectile at an enemy target or object dealing 25 impact damage and 100 damage over 4 seconds. ***** A hacked target will immediately take 50 impact damage and 100 damage over 2 seconds. **** .... why wouldn't you open with hack to get the extra burst damage ?
@@donrtowery is it really worth risking the entire engagement and dying for the chance (because you can still easily miss the cube) of 25 extra damage?
I thought “hack” made the virus do more damage? Was that in correct?
The hack makes the virus do more damage and faster.
i love the sombra guy
Ok but hacking an enemy also gets value by letting you see them through walls for 8 seconds, making it a valid reason to hack Anna
Dude, I magically became better cause of this video
okay always hack anna, that sleep dart and capsule of hp makes her unkillable
5:45 this really sums teaming with a sombra. Subscribed. 👍
Uh Mr. Streamer, whats that skin at 4:02 ??? Where peppermint???
hack doesnt increase damage on player?
that means I was starting to shoot ideal by placebo? wtf...
Hack just buffed virus damage tho
you watch this to get good at sombra. others watch this to get good at beating sombra. i watch this because i like questron. we are not the same.
Ty
Great metodology
Thanks, i really started to think more
i finished
no hate im just offering a suggestion: your tips are pretty good but you spend 60% of the vid yapping and making jokes but you only flash your tip on the screen for like 5 frames. I'm left going back in the vid just to read the tip meanwhile I have to wait through vertigo-inducing editing and jokes just to hear you explain your point. I'm not trying to be mean - I liked the video! - I'm just sharing my feedback.
yeah cause the only reason you're here is to siphon information and have no interest in me or my channel thanks for stopping by
@@Questron01 very mature reply, was just giving feedback like the comments were meant for, i've removed the like
I wanted to see some diffrent sombra players but man skufzy is activly telling our new generation to escape with trans and only try to 1v1 with virus 😔
My somb level is 148 and dude you helped me . i like playin with plats rather than diamond and higher . these dudes dont like you and just want you to switch . dude shyt the funk up this aint your account i wanna hack em all why bothered?
but i like spawncamping. Very funny
You hack a Ana to prevent sleep dart.
@@blubaustin1 ...for 1.5 seconds?
but the hack makes the virus almost oneshot squishies, so why isnt it worth??
@@rleus because this video is half a year old
@@Questron01 oh is this something "new"? mb then sry, just started playin ow, last time was in ow1 o7
@@rleus yeah they did gradual changes, at first hack virus only did 10 extra impact damage but now it's 35 extra
What are the 5 best sombra tips tho.
1. Invisibility is your escape not the translocator
2. Don’t spawn camp, it’s not worth it
3. Don’t open all attacks by hacking first unless you can point to the exact ability to lock out for 1.5s (yes, even with the recent hack-virus damage buff)
4. Use teamwork
5. Watch the stream and watch the thinking out loud videos on the Tube.
@@Razor_OK ok but what are the 5 best sombra tips tho
@@KraanFanFan 1) Turn on machine; 2) Open OverWatch; 3) Pick Sombra; 4) Kill the enemy; 5) Win the game; bonus tip 6) Equip Peppermint skin.
@@Razor_OK alr bro i get it, you're trolling me, so tell me the 5 best sombra tips rn or i will commit suicide
Is hacking someone not good beacouse it increases dmg of sombras projectile???????
Just asking couse u said hacking for no reason. I hack and instantly throw projectile…
"It's funny but don't" don't do it." LOL @ spawn camping advice.
Sombra plays how genji looks
why the butts tho
Wake up, you're in a coma
Question would be unstoppable and a huge creator if he didn’t main the most universally hated hero In OW
Why would you EVERRRR trans at your feet? They know you're there, Why would you NOT Trans far away/ up?
cause they can see the translocator if its flying across the air, once you're invisible you're invisible
@Questron01 I can see what your saying but wouldn't you think it's easier to spy check someone that you watched look down and tp rather than someone who tp'ed in some sort of direction?
Ok
meow!
Spilo
:3
wait, you didnt mention to not hack healthpacks... are you ok? are you being held captive to make this video? blink twice if you need help!
