The sheer amount of English puns in this movie must have made this a translator's worst nightmare.
as somebody who has watched the German dub of it before, yes, it is a high task, and despite the German voice acting scene being big and professional, the original English is just the superior version.
Can you imagine if one of the JP girls watched this film? Chat would be going ballistic trying to explain every joke due to regional differences
It could also be an opportunity for a translator to just make it their own, like the English dub of _Gakkou no Kaidan._
@@DistractedGlobeGuy Or like a Panty and Stocking dub situation
somethings you just cant translate, and no, the dub of _ghost stories_ isnt a translation, its basically a different show using the same animation; would you consider "abridged" parodies on youtube to be just "dubs" of the original product?, because logically speaking they are
Airplane is the embodiment of never let them know your next move
It helps that the filmmakers had experience with disaster movies in general, thus have firsthand experience with the many tropes and clichés associated with the genre
No no no they'll be expecting that
"Water on my butt like a tub."
No, Airplane is another form of Aeroplane, an Aeroplane is a vehicle that uses thrust to generate lift, allowing travel through the air at great speed and elevation.
Reminds me of Naked Gun.
I just want to tell you both good luck, we’re all counting on you
I just want to tell you both good luck, we’re all counting on you
I just want to tell you both, good luck.
We are counting on you.
I just want to tell you both good luck, we're all counting on you
I just want to tell you both good luck, we're all counting on you
I just want to count you both good luck, we're all telling on you
Ame: “Airplane’s are kind of cute!”
Gura: “You know, I’m something of an airplane myself.”
So that’s why Gura played Project Wingman that one time
Hydrodynamic AND Aerodynamic?
Fun fact, Sharks are more similar to airplanes than to other fishes
The way a shark function is more like an airplane underwater
other fishes are more like Zeplins and hot air balloons
i don't get it
@@amazydayzee1506 You may never will but that's ok
Actually one of the greatest comedies. The unrelenting stream of jokes that go unaddressed by the cast is what makes this so special, not to mention the glorious puns.
Seriously though. Nobody responding to the Red Zone argument is such a great joke
and don't call me Shirley
It quite literally has the record for most jokes per minute in a movie.
Is it wrong of me to admit that I want Ina to watch this movie?
She's gonna choke from laughter
This movie was definitely made for Ina
We have to make the rest of the takodachis recommend her
This needs to happen, if she hasn’t seen it already.
EVERYONE, should watch this movie.
9:54
Fun Fact: This movie was not extreme enough to be rated R, and it came out before the PG-13 rating, meaning it was rated PG, and still is. Also fun fact, when teachers select a movie for highschool students to watch on days without lessons, the highest rating they can select is PG.
My chemistry teacher let us watch this movie, cause we all wanted to, and when this scene came up we were in an uproar. He just threw up his hands and was like "PG..." He was the coolest.
Back in junior high, about '86, I chose Airplane and Rustlers Rhapsody. I turned red at the topless scene. Luckily the risque joke in RR was nothing after sitting through Airplane with my parents.
The best part of the naked women running in front of the camera is the dvd commentary, where they were like "Man, I forgot about that, jeez we were young. (laughs)"
the movie has such a high gag density. totally worth watching more than once.
One of the longest gags is the propeller plane sound of the airplane when it's a jet plane
For me, whenever I've seen someone new watching Airplane! for the first time, it's always the "I take my coffee black..." joke that I wait for. That, and the "Joey, you er, ever been in a cockpit before?" bit. Just sucker punches you so hard, it's hilarious.
"I feel like you could kill someone like that with a chair. I wanna get in a fight." - Ame 2022
Hopefully she can get in Japan soon. I am sure Korone would love a good fight.
Her “Jesus” when that woman started doing cocaine😂
Now imagine her watching "Kentucky Fried Movie".
@@RaddSpencer Lol, not many people know about it. I even uploaded my favorite moment from it on my channel here
The "Jim never has a second cup of coffee at home" line is a reference to an old ad campaign for Yuban Coffee which is meant to imply that this woman's husband never takes a second cup of coffee at home because he doesn't like the brand of coffee that she buys.
Also it was the same actors from that coffee commercial
And the joke where a radar operator puts a chicken in a microwave after being instructed to calibrate his equipment is because "Radar Range" was a brand of microwave sold at the time.
She was also the one who came up with the gag where passengers tries to calm her down, with increasingly brutal ways
It's cute seeing her try and pretend she doesn't understand most of the jokes.
The drinking problem gag is still my favorite
and she didn't get it 🤦🏻♂️
Now we need an Ame watchalong of Naked Gun, and Spaceballs!
bro Naked Gun would be perfect for her
She needs to bring Gura along for Spaceballs.
@@darkchibi07 Oh, without a doubt!
Top secret
@@cyechan50 YES!! Top Secret is freaking hilarious.
Ame: "What a creepy old lady."
Marine: "It's pronounced 'cultured.'"
i love this movie, so glad airplane still holds up. lol
You made a highlights video of Amelia Watson watching Airplane? Surely you can’t be serious?
I am serious. And don't call me Shirley.
@@pekodubs Roger!
A highlights video? What is it?
@@DistractedGlobeGuy It’s a compilation of stand-out moments from a longer video or series of videos, but that’s not important right now.
@@SteadFast411 Huh?
I almost wish I could scrub Airplane! from my memory just so I could watch it again for the first time. I've watched it and rewatched it so many times the humor has started to wear thin for me, and that makes me sad
Just gotta mix it up with some naked gun movies
Have you watched top secret or police squad made by the same guys top notch funnies
@@Pardot_ the naked gun has been ruined for me since I watched police squad
U need to take a break from it. Usually wait a few years, your perspective will change since you’ve grown older. Then you can watch with new eyes. Watch other things
Then just watch Airplane 2?
I like how at the end of the movie it cuts back to the guy still in the taxi cab waiting for Stryker to return.
The one Trivia I like about this movie, is that the Dialogue for the Movie is almost 1:1 copy of the original version, just delivered differently.
Just goes to show that performance really matters to sell anything.
That is _hilarious._
The original(s) being Zero Hour! (1957) and the Airport film series. There is a great side-by-side comparison video by Mason Wood, if anyone wants to check it out.
@@monsterlair The pilot for Zero Hour! was played by Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch, a football star. Obviously, the role of Rodger Murdoch being played by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was created to capitalize on this. That's how dedicated to the craft Abrahams et al were.
I was disappointed to find out that Leslie Nielson was NOT reprising his role as the doctor, like I first thought. Were it true, it would have been hilarious.
And because of that, ZAZ had to buy the rights to "Zero Hour" just to make sure they wouldn't get into legal trouble
That's a fine talent Ame has. One the fly being able to selectively ignore anything risque.
This was quite the pleasant surprise, thanks for letting us watch this classic again with Ame PekoDubs.
Hard to imagine how air travel used to be so… easy. 😥
You wouldn't want it, smoking was allowed on planes and the what planes work you would breathe it in
Wait until she finds out there is an Airplane 2 but its in space and just as funny.
THERE'S A SEQUEL?!?
@@waypoint732 yep and it's actually ok
and it's even with Captain Kirk :D
And there's Top Secret!, a crazy mix of Elvis era half-musical beach movie, WW2 resistance movie, and Cold War spy thriller.
Worst Boy: Hitler
I'll always remember this as the only movie to actually make my grandfather cry with laughter. It was the "What's your vector, Victor?" Scene. My grandad flew for the air force in Vietnam, and later American airlines.
I picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue
I picked a bad day to quit amphetamines
Airplane! is such a classic. I'll take any excuse to watch it again. Raining outside? Better watch Airplane! Some vtuber is doing a watchalong? Better watch Airplane!
i also tend to watch leslie nielsen's dracula movie and repossessed every halloween.
I never got the "altogether" bit until just now lol
You might have missed this joke, but Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was a REAL basketball player in the 80s. He was the actor that played Roger Murdock and half his jokes were based on that fact, including the fact that he was wearing his Los Angeles Lakers shorts when he was dragged away.
Initially when they pull him out of his seat, he's also wearing his game goggles he used to wear lol 🤭
I'd give this video a like, but....
...That's just what they'll be expecting me to do.
The missing of some punchlines and Ame’s reaction to them is concerning.
Ame missing the dated pop culture references is really endearing
The absolute sincerity in which Ame asks “is that real!?” In every movie watch-along is one of my favorite things 😭😂🤣
"Why is that horse there?"
Oh, Ame. You sweet, summer child.
It's also a reference to The Godfather
@@dr.professor5229 I know, but the other line of thought is funnier.
@@whiterabbit75 🤨📸
It's both.
"Go out the back door" doesn't leave any wiggle room.
Calli moment
Thank you for the video and editing!
As a small child this movie was horrifying with it's inconsistencies. I had nightmares about the scene where ppl where having eggs come out of their mouths:)
It's amazing how this 40 year old movie manages to pull off the whole "joke every other second" thing far better than Marvel ever has
RIP Love and Thunder. Your source material was great, but you just couldn't resist putting a clown nose on everything.
Because this is supposed to be nothing but a comedy. Marvel is supposed to be comic book super hero action movies first, I think, lol.
joss whedon ruined a generation of screenwriters; its not just marvel anymore unfortunately
Its almost like this is actually a comedy movie and marvel movies dont know what genre they are
I would like to say that, while I didn't see the actual stream, I can assure you there is a good chance they watched a very edited version of this for youtube.
What Ame was watching should have been the same as the BD version I used for the footage, based on the runtime and sync.
@@pekodubs I only said what I said because the movie in general is...70's. A lot of those adult puns and "artistic" camerawork. Lol.
This is great i was hoping more edits of vtubers watching movies! I dont have patreon so i can see his reactions with the movie.thank u!
Thanks for the TL! We always appreciate your hard work :)
😏
Airplane is a classic, but Ame should definitely check out Top Secret.
Someone should really have told her this is a comedy.
She's too young to get the older puns.
If Ina made a movie, it'd probably be a lot like this, lol.
Ame, they bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into. I say, let 'em crash!
Great choice. Ame has good taste.
Airplane is one of the funniest films.
"No, I've been nervous lots of times." I can't with this movie
The reference may escape some younger people but religious recruiting was huge at airports in the 80s
"I've got to give him all the confidence I can. Have you ever flown a multi-engine plane before?"
"No. Never."
"Shit. This is a goddamn waste of time."
Just assassinates me. Delivered by none other than the legendary Robert Stack. This film is packed to the gills with awesome, often serious actors and actresses pushing it so far beyond what you expect that it just doesn't get old. Truly an amazing film. _Police Squad_ is just as good.
these watchalong are different kind of fun altogether!
These watchalongs are a different kind of fun.
These watchalong are different kind of fun.

0:38 BRO I CAN'T...That edit was amazing
Ame’s genuine reaction to the old lady doing a like of coke is amazing
This movie is hilarious. Leslie Nielsen did a great job as always.
I love Airplane. Everything in the movie is a joke and it's hilarious.
I love the edit to put Gura's face on the plane at the very beginning. priceless
The guy who played Johnny, the goofy air traffic controller, was Stephen Strucker, a very funny and talented high-energy comedian who was among those lost to the AIDS epidemic of the 1980's.
This movie is legendary.
I picked a bad week to quit rolling Gacha
13:50 sounds so genuinely shocked
1:46
Watching her react to the messed up jokes is hilarious. She should definitely watch more of these older comedies
You can almost see her stopping and unsure how to react publicly. XD
Love this movie. One thing I never would have realised until it was pointed out is that on the exterior shots of the plane, the sound effect is that of a old school propeller plane.
I hear being in a Turkish prison is basically just like being a sapling.
3:56
Just that face 🤣
This was a great watchalong. I would love to see a highlight video of her Isle of Dogs watchalong, that's one of my favorites
Perfect movie for a watchalong with Ame, her humor is very similar.
Thanks for the Peko cut really enjoied it!!
12:49 I guess you could say she was horsing around
Fine work, thanks for putting this together.
Ina would love this one for sure.
0:39 killed me 😂
Airplane is such a great movie there so much going on in the backgrounds for repeated viewings
Bruuuuhhhhhh, the fact that Ame never watched Airplane before made every reaction by her that much more hilarious & just blessed to see.
I absolutely *LOVE* Airplane, especially with the likes of Leslie Nielsen that played the Doctor, because it's just an antique film of unhinged ideas and wacky randomness all in one plane. *Simply beautiful.*
Ah Airplane, they don't make this type of movie anymore.
But what was the (laughably harsh for no reason) Ame rating out of 10?
"A solid 6.2/10, it's not the best movie ever but it's pretty funny, pretty clever."
@@pekodubs eh they repeat the same jokes too many times. Even if it's a cult classic.
I hope more hololive people review classic comedy movies
This movie is brilliantly executed. It has to be in the top ten funniest movies ever made.
A little-known fact about *Airplane!:* It's based, almost shot for shot, on a 1957 movie called "Zero Hour!" (starring Dana Andrews and Sterling Hayden). All of the central characters and plot were taken from it, so it could almost be called a "remake" of Zero Hour!.
God I love this movie
before i watch this clip i’m very curious if this movie will be too old for Ame to relate to, i was born in the 80’s and i have a hard time relating to a lot of it.
now that i’ve watched the clip it made me realize that i don’t think i ever watched anything but the TV edit of the movie which cuts out a lot of the more risqué jokes. even if i had seen it unedited i think i might have been a bit too young to get a lot of them anyway 😂
That's roger ovur, over.
Roger
Chadcast should watch Top Secret as well
I just realized Otto Pilot has the exact same body shape and face as 3D Bubba…
One of the best spoof films ever made.
Very amusing to see a younger perspective on it.
The composer was given this genius idea that the soundtrack should be played very straight. Like it took the movie completely seriously. And that makes it way more absurd. South Park does that alot too.
Naked Gun or Spaceballs next
I find it funny that the Nun’s actress is named Maureen
The number of quotes from this movie I heard from my dad as a child is immense.
17:19 Hate to break it to you Amelia, but he was called Auto, like in Auto(pilot), and not Otto.
This movie is so good and so slept on in today's youth. Glad to see Amelia watched it!
I just want to tell you all good luck, we're all counting on you...
They need to make new movies like this.
The problem is that PC has poisoned the conscience of the public. Add the fact that EVERYTHING has to have specific one-sided politics involved. Humor is difficult in this day and age because no one is allowed to have a sense of humor anymore.
@@chrismaverick9828 Nah, a movie like this could absolutely be made still. I mean, The Office has some humor in it that could be considered touchy today yet it's still played on cable daily. The main problem is a lack of writers wanting to make a script like this, and the lack of producers willing to fork up the budget for it.
5:15 Don’t Fauna and Mel kinda talk like that? They have that airy quality to their voice.
For reference, she streamed this just after IRyS's debut was announced, well before Council.
Well, I'll give him another twenty minutes. But that's it!
Ame: They're yellow, like mine!
Artists: Write that down, write that down!
I found it hilarious how she admitted that so casually, lol.
Woah, that's Mike from Breaking Bad at 15:47
"At least I have husband"
Amelia" "Hehe, REKT!"
6:51 I never got that part of the movie...until someone mentioned it was referencing Midnnight Express. 😂
Good job getting sticking with this until the end. Not every comedy is for everybody.
Thank you for this!
I do love these vids, they are probably a pain to make tho! Thank you!
Oh I've been looking forward to this one.
To think, a whole damn album had so many samples from this movie and I'd never have know if not for coming here. No wonder you're upset! She's lovely!
