- In this video we will be going over the top Earth Alliance to find out which one is the strongest. We will be talking about Nova class dreadnought, Explorer class ship, Hyperion class heavy cruiser, Warlock class destroyer, Omega class destroyer, and Olympus Class Corvette.

A little fact checking for you. The narrator comments that the Explorer class is 600 meters long and that is nearly as long as Babylon 5 itself. This is completely false as the length of Babylon 5 mentioned in the opening spiel of the first season (and other times) is 5 kilometres long or 5000 meters to those of you not use used the metric system. That would would make the length of Babylon nearly 10 times more than that of an Explorer class , that is a huge difference.

Uhm, all due respect, but the narration states that the Explorer class is 6 *kilometers* so 6000m, not 600m. Additionally, Babylon 5 is five *miles* long, which equates to roughly 8km (or 8000m). Therefore the Explorer class is indeed "nearly" as long as B5 itself. During the episode "A Distant Star" (no, I did not know that myself, I looked it up), it can be seen parked next to B5, and even considering the angle, it is *massive*, due to the fact that it's designed to explore and construct jump gates at points of interest.
Incidentally its length was mentioned in the intro to the second season, the first only having its weight mentioned.

Little fact the second, the Explorer looks a bit like the Event Horizon, nothing would get on this ship.
I will always love how aggressive the Omega class looks whenever it emerges from a jumppoint accompanied by fighters and support craft.
The front section of the ship looks like a fist.

The Omega was designed to NOT get oneshot by a Sharlin without being able to return fire.
It would still lose, so would a Warlock in a straight fight(Trigati incident- 1 full power shot burnt through all but the interior, last defense, shadow bioarmor).
Minbari had overall range, power generation, speed and stealth advantages over the EA.
Some in EA may have hubristically thought the Omega Destroyer could hold its own against a Minbari Sharlin, but it is very obvious both visually and narratively, that this is not actually the case.
It can credibly threaten a Sharlin and inflict some damage on it, which has deterrence value, but it is not a match if the Sharlin is serious about fighting.
It was the best the humans could manage to match up to the Minbari in the aftermath of the EM War, but the technology gap between them and the Minbari is simply too great for any ship they could possibly build at that time to overcome.
We see that one on one an Omega loses to a Whitestar if the Whitestar is serious about fighting. Iirc, word of god at the time was that a Whitestar was not as powerful as a Sharlin one on one despite having the more advanced Vorlon technology in it, because it was still a much smaller ship. Personally, in watching how the ships performed against various opposition, I would estimate it would take 3 Whitestars to reliably beat one Sharlin.
Given this, Omegas would need a 4-5 to 1 numerical advantage before they would have a decent chance of actually winning a straight up fight with a Sharlin.
The Omega may not be sleek like the enterprise or agile like the Millennium Falcon but it packs a punch and is brimming with attitude. Like a ww1 dreadnought, armed to teeth and massive
My favourite will always be the Omega Class, as it's the one we got to see the most in the show, and when we got to see the shadow tech-enhanced version that was amazing. I would have liked to see more of the Warlock class though than we got.
I liked the Omega-X destroyers too, it's too bad they were all destroyed unless a few weren't at the battle with the White Stars.
The Omega-X ambush was a plot moment made to show off Whitestar capabilities. From B5Wars, an Omega-X can destroy a Warlock and is worth a Sharlin warcruiser(2200pts). Really wished these were present to greet Sheridan over Earth in Crusade.
Great videos. My favorite ship was and will always be the Omega class destroyer. I can't explain wht, but there's something about that rotating mid-section that I find compelling.
I love the Warlock class Destroyers and then my second choice would be the Excalibur if it went into production.

Warlock and Omega class are awesome. They totally kick ass.
though the Excalibur was crewed by mostly EF officers during their mission, its line of class were commissioned and built for the ISA making it not an Earth Alliance ship
The Omega is one for the reasons I started watching B5. I could sit down and watch compilations of Omegas with their rotating gravity section all day. It's just so gosh darned badass. My only complaint, if I as an enemy I would shoot at the core of that rotating hub, but perhaps it's not possible for an enemy to get so close to get a precise lock on that part of the ship.
In reality, shown in a prequel of the Honor Harrington novels, you'd lockdown that section during combat.
@@icecold9511 that makes sense. In Zeta Gundam they have a ship (Argama-class) which retracts it's gravity compartments which sit at opposing ends of spinning boom arms.
I would give the shadow omega of president clark its own spot, right between the regular omega and the warlock. But i just might argue for that because i am somewhat of a shadow omega fanboy. I never forget thet moment when the whitestars entered the systems and those evil looking shadow omegas jumped in. Awesome moment!
That was a great scene. In my opinion what made Babylon 5 such a great show was that they were able to create amazing space battle scenes

The Warlock had a layer of Shadow organic armor hidden underneath its regular armor.
There was also the Advanced Omega class destroyer based on Shadow technology, which may have been the most powerful of all the Earth alliance ships, when it came to defensive capabilities.
They didn’t fare so well against the whitestar fleet.
Nothing EA had would have stood a chance against the full Whitestar fleet. The Omega-X’s did better than anything else against them.
The Olympus class is in desperate need of being replaced. Earth force deserves an escort on the technological level of the Warlock
The hyperion was refitted for that role.
Warlock was sweet was the first of a new better and beast to Handel anything explorer class loved

The Warlock incorporated the Aegis particle beams or "GOD CANNONS". One hit would obliterate a Centauri warship. It was also rumored to have implemented a layer of Shadow organics under its main hull armor. Even though Earth and Minbari were allies, it was constructed for one purpose, to be able to beat a Minbari ship.
While the intent in building it might have been to beat a Minbari Sharlin, I don’t think it would actually succeed in doing so. The technology gap between Earth Alliance and the Minbari is still too significant. Being an even match would be a more realistic assessment.
And if the Minbari decide to upgrade their regular ships with the same Vorlon technology they were given to build the Whitestars, those upgraded Minbari ships should beat a Warlock one on one, I think.
In the Lost Tales in the potential alternate future we actually see a Warlock one-shot an obviously improved and upgraded variant of a Centauri Vorchan, though it looks like the Warlock was ultimately losing that particular battle. One would think the Warlock would also have had upgraded weaponry by that time too, of course.
Slightly wrong with the Nova it was the only class Earth had that stood any chance against the Minbari, the Minbari actually considered it the only ship among the longer race to be a threat.

YES Nova class was the only Earth Alliance ship class that had any chance against the Minbari , but only when the enemy is within in it´s short weapons range & the Minbari stealth device is deactivated or the target not moving
@@Killerspieler0815 It was highlighted that the movie, In the Beginning, captains of Nova Dreadnoughts, when they were about to lose, would kick it into high gear make a kamikaze attack on the Minbari warships. Most resources I read stated that that was where the majority of Minbari casualties came from.

The Nova was the only ship EA has that carried enough firepower to make a significant dent in the Minbari’s advanced crystalline armour systems, and thus the only ship that could actually credibly threaten to hurt a Sharlin, if it got close enough to use its weapons.
I would imagine that the Minbari, knowing this, would prioritize taking out opposing Novas with long range fire whenever they could, and this probably explains why so many Novas were lost in the EM War.
Favorite? *OMEGA CLASS.*

wrong about number of fighters the Hyperion class heavy cruiser has, it has 6 Star Furies launched from bays in the tail section. easily counted in the second part of the two parter in season 1
Gotta be the warlock. At first I though it had eliminated the glaring flaw of having a forward opening hangar bay, which seems like a please shoot me target in any opening engagement, but on close inspection it seems that's still there, albeit smaller. Not needing the massive rotating section and it's increase to the vessel's profile is also a plus (though at least that made sense). Toss in sloping forward armour and we have a winner. The omega class is basically a space going Tiger tank, with all the flaws that thing had. The warlock is more like the Panther/tiger 2 with the sloping armour and at least marginally leaner profile. Lastly who doesn't love the shiny new hotness so long as it actually works?
Why did you leave out some of the Omega's major armament - the gigaton-class nuclear mine launchers, and the heavy missiles that the Omegas could launch in a massed, broadside-type attack pattern? Those are cannon by JMS himself, who said that the only reason they were never shown on screen was because of budgetary limitations.
When i was doing research for the different ships on the list some of the sources did state that the ship did have heavy missiles and etc, but other sources did not have them. They were not shown in the show so I assumed that they might not be cannon so i thought it would be best to play it safe and not show something I was not sure if it was cannon. Do you know where JMS stated that the Omega had these armament ,because this extra piece of information would help make my content better for other Babylon 5 fans. :)
Utopian Broadcast Look at the Omega's Wikipedia entry, under 'Designed but never used'. As it says, they were there for a purpose - and they were also listed on sights no longer maintained. I'll look in my archived files for more info. Also, they're canon - we just never got to see them really fight it out with their hands untied.

You forgot to mention the Omega X destroyers, they were quite strong and powerful not to mention had a weaker version of Shadow Bio-armour on their hulls.
Just one little nitpick, whoever did your renderings of the explorer class it looks like they've slapped the front bay of an Omega/Nova class on the rendering. Just looks weird.
Agreed if we have managed to reverse engineer tech from the shadow vorlon or minbari we would there fore be way ahead of the younger races ... we could be classed as a new first Ones race along with the Minbari .
Were did you get your reference for EA ships as you were different from all information have ever read .

I don't believe the explorer class ship was ever shown with same forward section the Nova and Omega classes did, as shown on the diagram (1:34)

IMO the Omega seems like the FIRST time the EA military put ANY effort into actual "STYLE" in their battleship designs!
Pretty much EVERYTHING else the EA military designed was a gaudy looking "boxes with engines".
While other races, like the Narn, the Centauri & especially the Mimbari, had a "sleek" look to them! (the Narn Heavy cruiser being my favorite)
Sure, the Omega had a certain intimidatingly, thuggish, bad@$$ look to it, and the Hyperion had a cool, ocean faring Battleship look to it, but the OMEGA looks like a slick swordfish, or shark, or eel "swimming" through space!

the Earth Alliance fought against Clark , who was the one who had the AODs built.
Kinda wished right after Earth's success against the Dilgar, they would keep some of the Dilgar's scientist alive so they could help them develope Earth's weapons- Maybe Earth could reach out to the Narns and buy some reverse enginereed Centauri weapons. The Novas and Hyperion gets upraded to 2260 technology level. The Novas 2 front-guns gets replaced with particle beams for example. I think EA could have given the Minbari a little more fight then just getting rolled over.

Nobody who is not a First One avoids getting rolled over by the Minbari if the Minbari are truly mad at them.
EA could have been given the full technical specifications of the entire Centauri fleet and it would not have made one bit of difference.
You missed a ship. President Clarke had Shadow Class Destroyers with organic Shadow tech for the hull and weapons.
Warlocks had a layer of Shadow organic hull Armour underneath its outer Armour.
Didn't you put the Olympus fighter carrier in the list :-( the fighters are deadly and that ship may be pants but it can put almost 100 fighters in the air at once :-) I may be remembering the name wrong but I think you know the one I'm on about :-)
Hey how's it going I just had a comment about how a lot of the ships in the Sci-Fi universe have Cruise of a thousand or more Marines there was a video somebody did back when.. that made a good point... Heaven Marines on a warship other than security makes no sense and they is a waste of space because it brings nothing to the space battle.. instead of having all those Marines you could have more fighters more drones more missiles guns supply transport etc. You would bring in large dedicated troop transport ships once the area is secured.. if you needed a lot of Marines for a ground assault.. But that's just my two cents 😁
yeah honestly you only need marines/soldiers on a space warship for customs/insertion/boarding/security reasons. While probably necessary, that number comes off as a gross over correction.
U said that the Olympus class was jump capable. Did you mean "could use jumpgates and navigate hyperspace with beacons" or "had a jumpdrive"?
The warlock would still conventionally lose to a Sharlin warcruiser(longer range, speed, stealth; from b5wars; 1800 vs 2200 pts). The Minbari were a younger race, so was humanity no matter how many warlocks they built.
I'd say only after building the Marathon Cruiser (hyperion replacement-neutron cannons) would humanity be regarded as an advanced race.

This may be a stupid question I'm not sure but could a warlock class defeat a minbari sharlin?
If we are comparing technology alone then no. The sharlin is more advanced than the warlock, but if we include the commanding officer into the equation then there is possibility a warlock could win. For example if john sheridan was in command of a warlock ship, in my opinion could easily destroy a sharlin class ship.

If these ships had shields, they would compete well against the ships of other Sci-fi shows.
There were only about 50 Warlocks by the time of Crusade. Even then, had Sheridan not prevented it, the new Centauri emperor would have laid waste to Earth, despite the EA fleet.
The several hundred year technological gap between the Centauri and EA would likely still translate into a significant edge in ship manufacturing capability, even if EA ships had weapons parity due to getting advanced alien technologies. The relatively small number of Warlocks that EA was managing to field even by that time would be a reflection of this limitation. The Centauri probably overwhelmed the EA fleets with sheer weight of numbers. Plus they had the advantage of starting the war with a surprise attack.

@@adamwu4565 yep, just shows they weren’t prepared. A Warlock shouldn’t be that close to any enemy. Their forward guns can punch through anything, but with the chaos of the surprise attack, and most of the fleet probably elsewhere, it would be a cakewalk.
Besides, it was a vision created by Galen. Who knows how realistic it is? Technomages can make forecasts but can’t tell the future. The tech they’re using doesn’t allow for that, even if Galen is the most powerful Technomage alive
@@artembentsionov It was to my knowledge the only visual demonstration of what a Warlock was capable of, and even in defeat they were truly impressive. One-shotting the Vorchan on offence, and on defence tanking just an insane volume of fire before going down from an improved version of a ship that was previously shown demolishing a G'Quan Heavy Cruiser in like 3 shots.
The only thing I found disappointing about the Warlock was that they didn't install those incredible blue tracking beams (probably based on Shadow tech) they had on the Omega-X's on them. It's the one weapon ever shown on an Earth built ship that can match the Minbari Sharlin's green fusion beams in both damage output and general accuracy.

The Hyperion is mistyped. It should be typed as a frigate rather than a cruiser since it doesn't have the capabilities and range to act on it's own like a cruiser. The Warlock class would make a more proper cruiser, but it's being mistyped as a destroyer.
Mistype - 'its own' ; no apostrophe. With the apostrophe it is a contraction of "it is". Without the apostrophe it is a possessive, which you seemed to be shooting for. Always proofread if you're going to be criticizing someone else's failure to proofread.
Mistyping of Science Fiction warships is common- mostly because of all the people who write military SF without getting an understanding of Naval history before using terminology drawn from that history.

Why don't you have the same data across your videos?
When I first started making videos, I was using fandom.com for SCIFI information. I have been using fandom.com for years and have been a fan of the website, but other viewers told me that the information on the B5 ships I had on my videos were not the same information that other SCIFI channels had on their videos. I check and realized that they were correct. I was directed to b5tech which turns out to be the website where most SCIFI channels have been getting their information about B5 ships. It's been hard to find correct information about B5 ships, but B5tech does seem to be the website that is the most reliable among other SCIFI channels, so I will be using that website for reference for my B5 videos. Sorry for any confusion

Why didn't you include the Omega X? One of the biggest flaws of strategy in my opinion is that Ivanova should have commanded the rangers to take an Omega X at any cost. The demoralizing factor of having one of his own ships used against Clark would have won the war for them much easier but we all know how Delenn and the Minbari would have turned up their nose at having a ship designed by the shadows so that would have never happened. Sigh.

When I first started making youtube video on B5, I was using fandom.com to do my research. One of the viewers of my channel pointed out a better website about Babylon 5 and it is called b5tech. B5tech is filled with allot of information and research done on the B5 universe and is a great source of information. Another plus, my fellow youtuber Pax Deorum uses the same website. Sorry for the confusion. After I finish the videos I am working on right now. I will have to update my older videos.

Worthless?would you like to rephrase that? If The nova class got within of a minbari warship they could tear it apart with its guns shealth systems be damned.if it had the heavy xray laser cannons it wouldve been very different.
That was the point. It almost never got in range. Minbari could vaporize ships from a distance in a matter of seconds.

Interesting documentary, somewhat spoiled by the narrator's appalling pronunciation of the English language.
"The Earth Alliance" should not be pronounced "Thuh Earth Alliance".
That's a somewhat ultra-minor thing to pick out, and is a pretty common pronunciation - I though you were going to aim for pronouncing 'torpedo' as 'turbo'.
I don't know why they didn't call the Omega and Warlock class Dreadnoughts, seeing as by warship classifications a Dreadnought is larger and more powerful then a Destroyer.
Maybe it was a mistake and the Omega and Warlock classes where meant to be called Dreadnoughts?
You do have a good point, but a dreadnought is a type of battleship which is built for close range warfare. The Omega and warlock are modern ships that are designed for close and long range warfare. It could be argued that sense the usage of lasers in ships, Earth force no longer needed to build another dreadnought because they are not designed to fight long range ships. A good comparison is the United States navy no longer using battleships because the technology improvements of missiles they no longer needed the type of firepower that a battleship provided. Good question :).

It shows that the writes of this show had only a basic idea of military hardware, seeing as just about every Sci-fi show/Game has Dreadnoughts/Battleships as the larger and more powerful vessels in a navy, here are some examples:
Star Wars, (the Exetor class Star Dreadnought,)
Mass Effect (the Destiny Ascension, and the Everest and Kilimanjaro classes),
Halo (The Vindication-class battleships),
Warhammer 40k, (Multiple classes),
Battlestar Galactica, (All the Battlestars),
Star Trek, (USS Vengeance).
