Can you just imagine C.S Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and Malcolm Guite huddled in a thick fog of pipe smoke, seated in The Eagle and Child conversing at length about literary matters over malted beer? That would have been a sight
Oh, Malcolm!! Please, please, PLEASE finish and publish this amazing work you began in your younger days!! I am currently a high school English teacher, so your recollections of the rigors of living that particular dream made me feel happy to be in the best of company!! Clearly, God has given this poetic project back to you at precisely this time to finish it for a generation desperately in need of the truth it carries. Praying you will give the full gift you envisioned to the breathlessly waiting world! Thank you so much for all you do--my husband and I cannot get enough!!
"...when the Pevensie children had returned to Narnia last time for their second visit, it was (for the Narnians) as if King Arthur came back to Britain, as some people say he will. And I say the sooner the better." - Lewis I second that!
Thankyou for your videos from a 21 year-old from SW England. I am permanently house-bound due to illness and wanted to say, your beautiful poems and book readings mean a lot to me. I cannot find the words to express the comfort your videos bring, and how they reignite a fire of creativity in me. It is a joy to hear you read and I cannot wait to be welcomed in to your wondrous study in the next video. Enjoy a lovely pipe and know that you are appreciated greatly.
What a privilege it would have been to be taught by you. A beautiful poem, I’ve no doubt Lewis would approve. It brings his wonderful world to life, the adventure, the peril and struggle, the joy. Wonderful.
You should finish and publish this! I am going through the Chronicles with my sons right now, about to start Voyage of the Dawn Treader. They have seen the BBC classics many times and they enjoy getting the fuller story! God bless you!
Love this! I am huge fan of both tetrameters and rhyming couplets. When my son was young, I re-wrote, I won’t quite say translated, Beowulf into ballad stanzas. Strongly metered poetry has received a bad reputation, but as poet Timothy Steele titled one of his books, All The Fun’s In How You Say a Thing.
Absolutely lovely! I will add mine to the chorus of voices hoping that you find both time and inspiration to finish this, so it may live on our shelves with the Chronicles, where it belongs!
Malcolm I absolutely adore your content and feel that you are doing more to get people reading again than many other organisations whose soul purpose is to do so! I also feel there could be a real appetite for a series of audiobooks if you could put yourself through that? Food for thought maybe. On a selfish note please can I request another video on Sherlock Holmes? Again thank you for all you have done and continue to do.
Always such a pleasure to watch your latest video while I'm on my lunch break at work. What a lovely find you have there! Thank you for sharing it with us!
Another great video. I appreciate that you tried to do the students homework with them every time. I wish more teachers would think of learning like a collaboration, it would have done me a great favor in school.
Thank you for sharing this with us Malcolm. I must admit I have never been hugely interested in poetry, however, I really enjoyed this. You must have inspired many a young mind in your teaching days with your passion and love for literature. Thank you again for your videos they are a wonderful way to disconnect from the stresses of the world for a short spell.
I'd love to sit down for an hour and just talk back and forth about everything and nothing while we both smoked the same blend of tobacco through our favourite pipes. This man is peace personified.
I sincerely hope that we get to hear from the second canto soon! As a lifelong fan of the Narniad I really love the idea of this sort of interpretation.
Excellent! You have abstracted, then delved into Narnia the way Beowulf abstracts Smaug. Well, who came first gets a little confusing (no- not confusing: it was Logos). I've enjoyed all of your poetry and videos, but this was the first of your poems that penetrated immediately and clearly. Thank you as always for enlightening me.
your choice of the stress on the second half of the foot, the iamb, surprised me. i expected a trochaic metre, like the Kalevala, in a four-footed line. your result was truly fine.
What fun to find an early in-process work. Thanks for sharing it with us. 🥃 Having a wee dram of Kilkerran and G.H., Coniston Cut Plug, lovely Serene piping, G
Did, very much, thank you! What a treat... wow... wonderful writing, brilliant... so very much of our times today... "til they forgot to tend the tree"... heartbreaking, isn't it! Thanks for sharing, and we look forward to more, with our love to both of you. 💞💙
this channel is true gem for me! as someone who lost my grandfather at 8yo (never met the one from dad's side as he passed away before I was born) and my father as 23yo just listening yo you or the literature so soothing! keep on doing your videos! thank you so much!
Beautiful, thank you! That was the coolest thing I've heard all day! I didn't even realize you were matching the meter of the original rhyme the Beavers share until the end, that was such a brilliant idea. Thank you so much again for sharing! I'm excited to hear more of the Narniad!
It's a lovely spring evening in a slightly warmer part of the world than the hobbits home where I was sprouted in the UK, but was even more warmed by this poetry. God bless 😊
Just lovely as always Malcolm. Your poem is a balm for my worldly cares. Have blessed day. Just repairing my little dinghy for a boat camping trip. My good friend has just bought one of the Caledonian Yawls that was featured in the 2010 film, of “Voyage of the Dawn Treader”. So I hope have a sail in her in a few days.
Wonderfully written. I hope that you get to finish the poem. Every time I see a video offering of yours appear, I can't wait to settle in to watch and listen. I don't always get to watch as soon as it appears, but I do find the time, usually with a pipe .
I so enjoyed your beginning to your Narnian poem! Thank you for sharing it with your listeners. I would like to hear all of it. I encourage you to finish it, perhaps in honor of Professor Lewis, whose children's fiction has brought much adventure and pleasure to readers.
Good evening, sir. I must say, I can't remember a more pleasant and inviting study. Additionally, I am an English teacher at a high school in the heart of Germany. The concept of completing the same homework as your students is truly brilliant. It goes beyond learning; it fosters a strong, positive relationship with your students. You've really hit the nail on the head with that approach.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this with us!!! Great Bard of Narnia, in Truth we thank you!! If you ever have time to share more, you have a more than willing audience... I can imagine it all completed - a lovely pocket-sized book, well-worn from being read aloud around a cozy fireside... this is all that Narnia lacked in my childhood... The Lay of the Great Spring...❤
This was beautiful and powerful, you had me entranced by the rhythm and the memories of all these passages in the books. I would read all of the Chronicles of Narnia retold in this format!
Just my luck! An amazing day and I am having a raspberry cobbler aromatic in my churchwarden as I relax in my garden.. And I discover that Malcolm has uploaded a new video! Thank you my friend and hope your day is well!
I have no idea how you can think of these poems, but I'm so glad you have done and I'm so glad that we get to hear your voice telling them. I'm about to go on some long plane flights and I think I might get the Narnia books to read to keep me company!
I have just begun my own writing of poetry journey. You have been a great inspiration for me, beginning to read and write. I love watching and listening to you. Thank you, Malcolm ❤
Dear Mr. Guite writes your Ukrainian admirer. My name is Daniel and I am full of love for your work! I give cultural lectures at the Dnieper Central Library, and as part of this project I managed to work with such writers as G.L. Oldie, Marcus Gasser, Brian Lee Durfee, Dmitry Gubin and others. Tell me, dear Mr. Guite, is it possible to interview you for our library? Best of luck. Yours D.E.Paes
Glorious! Glorious! Glorious! I would so love if you would complete the poem and publish it. I can see myself reading it to my grandchildren along with the Narnia books.
I never really liked poetry (always found most poetry to be a bit of self-serving and navel-gazing sentimentalism), but starting last year after I read Cinderbiter: Celtic Poems by Martin Shaw & Tony Hoagland my appreciation for poetry was sparkled. However, nothing whatsoever helps me appreciate and construct my poetic sense more than you, sir. Your sense for beauty and appreciation for the written word and the way you are able to transmit it is very touching to me. I am also giving my voice to the chorus of people who would like to see this poem finished and published someday, and who also eagerly waits for your Arthurian epic. I am not very good with words, so I cannot properly put down what I want to say. But at the very least, I would like to give you chears and thank you from a 25 year-old Brazillian woman, so that you know you are appreciated all the world over by people from both genders of all ages and backgrounds.
If I had a teacher in 1982 teaching Lewis, Tolkien and assigning works pretending to be a Narnian poet I would have been in heaven, even though i wouldnt have appreciated it nearly enough.
You've inspired me to start reading again, I recently picked up the box set of the hobbit and the Lord of the rings trilogy. I must say, im really enjoying the hobbit so far

I would pay good money to be a fly on the wall in that room. 😎👍

Don't forget the Longbottom Leaf!

Malcolm's presence never ceases to soothe me; he captures the heart regardless of its indifference to the written word.
Well said
I can't wait to hear the rest of the poem! Petition started to complete the work so we can all have a copy on our shelves ;)
Exactly this

I'll give it some thought - though at the moment I'm committed to completing my arthurian poem - but thanks for the encouragement!
"...when the Pevensie children had returned to Narnia last time for their second visit, it was (for the Narnians) as if King Arthur came back to Britain, as some people say he will. And I say the sooner the better." - Lewis

Thanks so much for sharing, and I am really glad to have brought you some comfort. All the best, Malcolm
I don’t think AI will ever be able to replicate the soul that is captured in that piece. Thanks for sharing.
The problem isn't that AI could replace the soul of an artist. The problem is that most people don't care if art is soulless.
@@SkelNeldory wisely said.
It takes about three seconds to notice something is written by AI...in 20 years, it may take 5.
