I think part of the reason he can switch styles so effortlessly is because not only is he super talented, but he doesn’t seek approval to do it. You either take it or leave it. Plus, he’s so mysterious. He keeps us guessing.
No, it's because of good producers. He's a great singer but a music "style" is all about production. Even the vocals are processed here and if you listen closely there's a backup vocal at certain parts to set the tone right.

But at the end of the day it's pop music, made to appeal, and the Weeknd didn't invent hot water, he just recognised the potential of the whole synthwave thing and I give him major props for that.

Julian I don’t think he will do interviews I think that adds to the mystique of his persona which he leans into a lot. but I agree I love how experimental he’s becoming in his performances but still keeping true to his thing which is just him on the stage and the band.

Pay attention to 1:19 - 1:23; 1:38 (The way he says tiiiiiiiime); 2:13 the way he flows over those notes is not natural, there is 100% auto tune on that. Autotune can´t be noticed if done right.

I remember seeing him the FIRST time hes ever performed, which was in toronto, in a small concert hall. he didnt even move a step he stayed in the same spot and hid behind the microphone for 1 hour and a half.
He used to rely on drugs so heavily before his performances to calm his nerves but he’s moved so far beyond that point and while his music will never be the same because of it, I’m so happy he’s had time to heal over these last 10 years.
