Niches are a trap for ugly plastic containers. It distracts from the beauty of the Shower Tile work. I prefer, where possible, to construct a Knee wall. A stainless steel shelve is installed on the shower side of the knee wall. It provides a spot to hide all the Plastic 'stuff' . JMO
@@louisetaylor7352 Louise , I'm sure you do great work on those. It's not so much the 'niche' as it is the clutter and junk people put in them. My wife's a realtor, and she tells the 'sellers' get rid of those plastic bottles in the shower prior to staging for the sale.

If you aren’t using preformed niches, from tile Redi etc, you are inviting a water potential problem

There are many ways to add shelves in showers, my niches blend perfectly with the tile I choose.
