Looks amazing. Totally agree with doing sill first for water shedding, but the top and sides can be last to make the cuts on the mosaic less important/finicky. As well as making the vertical corners hidden by the side pieces. Doesn’t matter much with this particular mosaic, but in using glass, pebbles, and round small mosaic, etc., not having to worry about those cut edges makes the installation a bit easier.
Once again another awesome video. Beautiful craftsmanship as always. I do love using Schluter Jolly profile. Thanks for sharing your knowledge please keep the videos coming. “FLIP”
Thanks for going into detail regarding the niche and y’all’s tips for in what order to install the tile I really appreciated that it helped a lot when I did the niche in my shower Your videos on tools helped a lot too
Can you please consider showing the caulking that’s done on plane changes in corners, and or tub sill to tile wall transition. It’s one of the items I struggle most with as a DIYer.
I always use color matched caulk in corners, inside niche, between pan and finished tile. Grout won't stay put in corners and it's also difficult to get enough grout in those areas to get the desired amount. Also you need a little flexibility in those areas because they will move and grout just won't stretch or compress. I don't know that this helped you at all but there's my two cents
I always make sure the niche meet the horizontal lines as well as the vertical lines it makes the difference between a professional job and a desperado.
Do you leave a slope on bottom part for water to slide out? If you did, can it be done by adding more thinset on back and less on front? Do you have to cut bottom sides in an angle to fit the bottom?
I'm doing this exact design except my trim will be Schluter®-QUADEC. But I have a similar HEX tile for the backer. Wow, thank you soooo much! I was really struggling trying to remember how to do this (now that I'm almost ready to get tiling)!!
Great and informative video. I do have one question though. At 1:16 it says "thinset is keyed and burned in". What do you mean by that? I'm learning guys, so don't flame me. Thanks
Very clean and effective installs, you are definitely an inspiration for my work. Hey question, do you still use your 7inch delta saw aka 7 inch dewalt😆, I dont see you using it that much. I am thinking about getting a smaller more portable saw. Is it your number choice for a 7inch guided saw? Thank you.
So do you caulk the shluter miters? I know you want them tight but if miters are perfect then there's no room to get any kind of grout or caulk in there. Just seems like water traps. If you leave room then you don't have tight miters but you have a more secure shower. Make them tight so it looks correct and water will always get in there. What's the correct way? Better function or better look?
Unfortunately for me a 12” tall niche isnt big enough for most womens tall ass shampoo bottles with pumps on top. 14” is barely enough room so im doing mine currently at 16”. Notching the tiles above is worth the extra space. 🤷🏻♂️ Edit: I always check with my customers to be sure their products will fit in the niche we build. Nothing worse than all that hard work to find out they cant use it effectively.
Yo!!! Don't wanna be a douche but, the one hexagon was a bit crooked. 6th one in from the right, 3rd. one down..... Now, let's see how many ppl. go & look. I freakin kill myself guys!!😂🤦♂️👍 Ain't not one single thing crooked in that shower!! Work is impeccable. Hoping all is well guys, Dirty Jersey out again!! Enjoy your weekend 🙏

ABSOLUTE BEST part of the video 02:28 mark "Colapse the ridges" he speaks!!! You guys absolutely kill it guys. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
Do you leave a gap on all corners? And is yes, do you fill them with grout or color match silicon?
Anybody please advise asap. Thank you
Beautiful. I do it different. Back first. Allows pitch in sill.
After watching your videos I started to have the confidence to miter the trim edges. The finished product looks so much better
It definitely looks better, we need to go back to that.

Love your tile installation videos. Clean detailed work. 👍🏽
Thanks! 👍
Another great video thanks

It definitely did and thank you. I just would like to see that step not skipped and go right to finished product that’s all. Appreciate the response
Beautiful Niche

Yes, slope for water shed and yes, side tiles are cut at an angle
Great, thank you
I love how precise your videos are and of course your tile work! I am in tile Installer also and enjoy seeing others do quality work💪💯
Awesome! Thank you!
Nice work as always!
That was beautiful
Looking good man

Awesome vid bud! Now I can tackle the niche when I do my remodel in a few weeks. Thanks for thr info!
The guys that did my 2 niches made them 10 inch high, nothing fits and had to put shampoo in short bottles for 10 years 😂
On jobs with a mosaic niche, I’ve been tiling the back on a work table on day one. Then install the niche when the layout elevation is confirmed
Great and informative video. I do have one question though. At 1:16 it says "thinset is keyed and burned in". What do you mean by that? I'm learning guys, so don't flame me. Thanks
Simply means you scratch the thinset into the backerboard
i always do the back first i assume it dont matter as i always silicone my boxes
I read is better to install bottom first, so water doesn't get inside. Silicon starts failing and water gets in.
Beautiful work as always. Would you please do a video of how you figure out where to put the niche so it will have tile surrounding it?

Hi, can you tell me what size prefab niche you used?

Still have the Delta! We've been using the snapper and IQ Cyclone lately (small bathroom remodels). I like the delta because of the gravity stand 👊

Would it be good idea to leave a grout gap at the miter joints just to make a water tight seal?
No, not necessary and we don't thing that looks good.
How did you create a slope on the bottom piece? Or does it have a slope built into the niche?
We set slope with the thinset
What pencil/marker utensil is that?
Well done on the install too.
Pica I have and love
Get the wet lead ( blue/green/white) for it. The pencil marks wash away when the saw starts spewing water. At least with my saw.
Yes, me too. They work great!
@@vicchico9322 Was not aware of the lead that works under wet saws, thanks for the tip! Ordered from Amazon.
What's the name of the blade you use to cut jolly profile?
What tape do you use to hold the trim please
Thanks man. Is there a recommended grout line around the tile trim? On both sides? Or can the trim practically touch the tile?
I use the same size I'm using for my tile. Unless I'm using an 8th inch spacer on my tile, then ill go a little smaller next to the trim.
@@mattjudy6780 cheers 🍻
@@grrinc yesir. Landberg might do it a little different so maybe look out for his answer as well
We do the same as Matt most of the time 👊
Hey been watching your videos since u started almost on UA-cam. I was wondering which mortar u used on project like this?
We most always use Schluter All Set. 👍
@@LandbergTileTV got it thank u 👍🏿
Sweet. Hey how’s that IQ diamond pad? Thinking bout getting one.
Love the pad, holds up better than the others we've used.
What do you charge for niche like this?
$500-$750
