Next week it will be one year since the world lost Seamus Begley. Seamus’s voice and box playing are unparalleled, in my opinion. What a wit too. We truly miss Seamus.
Anyone that knows music knows this is the benchmark beautiful guitar and the vocals are unbelievable just goes together so natural. This rendition will last the test of time.timeless
This is absolutely beautiful, very done done both of you. God I wish I could sing in Irish but as an Englishman I know alas it will always be beyond me. Can't wait to be back in Clare and Dingle again later this year after 12 months of lockdown and really missing all the live sessions and meeting people from all over the world who really appreciate Ireland's beauty and her traditions. Just wonderful guys, thank you!
Beautiful, Clare. Honestly. I love it. I love Ireland. It is my heritage. One day I hope to make my pilgrimage and experience what I see in the videos. Thank you for this upload. Liked and saved to playlist. ~ Bel
Go hálainn ar fad! Bhí mé sa Daingean don Fhéile Phancheilteach 2010 agus 2011. Ba mhór liom a bheith ann seal agus ba mhinic mé i Flahertys chomh maith. Great tune wonderfully sung and played - sometimes even a Cork Boy like myself has to hand it to County Kerry - fair play now...
First verse: If I follow you diligently west to Carbary, I'll loose my senses if you don't go home with me. Óró, I'll be shedding tears. Don't come after me without plenty money, The real stamp of the king of England in your keeping. Óró, for the cost of the journey. There won't be welts on our hands from digging the fields, nor from heaping the turf nor the Autumn sun shining on us. We'll have the long dance if that's what you want, Gold and silver, drink and whiskey, Óró, as long as we live.
@@jamesstuartbrice420 It's even better in Irish - Gaelic is a group of languages that are related but linguistically distinct, in much the same way as Dutch and German are Germanic languages - similar but not one and the same.
‘Má leanaim go dian tú siar chun Cairbreach, Caillfead mo chiall mara dtriallfair abhaile liom, Óró, bead ag sileadh na ndeor.’ ‘’S ná tar im dheoidh gan mórchuid airgid, Stampaí Rí Shacsan go cruinn i dtaisce agat, Óró, i gcomhair chostas an róid.’ ‘Ní bheidh cloig ar ár ndoirne ó rómhar na ngarraithe, Ná ó chruachadh na móna ná an fómhar á leathadh orainn, Beidh rince fada againn más é is fearra leat, Ór is airgead, ól is beathuisce, Óró, nuair a mhairfimid beo.’ ‘Do shiúlóinn an saol go léir is an Bhreathnaisc leat, Is níorbh fhearr liom a bheith in Éirinn ag éisteacht aifrinn, Óró, ná i Sasana Nua, Ach ná creidim ód bhéal dhá dtrian dá n-abrann, Mar is fear magaidh tú a bhíonn ag mealladh ban, Óró, led racaireacht spóirt.’ ‘A chumann mo chléibh is a réilteann mhaisealach, Ní neosainn bréag óm bhéal ar chapall duit, Ar eagla an pheaca is go mbeimis damanta, Grá atá ceangailte im lár ná scarfainn leat, Óró, go dtéad síos fén bhfód.’
Great video: Small correction to translation in 1st verse. "ó rómhar na ngarraithe" = "From digging the gardens" Probably "garraí" in the sense of potato field. Le gach dea-ghuí.
It gets tough in Sliabh Luachra when Cork plays Kerry in football. I have heard that the supporters of the losers will miss Mass for a couple of weeks afterwards and that parish priests know and accept that fact of life in that famous frontier town. Now that's the place for Sean O Se, Jimmy Crowley and Seamus Begley to meet up to sing each others songs. By the way, my late mother grew up six miles east of Macroom. She always said that 'An Poc ar Buile' was composed by a man from that place...
Come on here now, John boy, I think Seamus Begley is one of the top Irish singers anywhere right now. If he has any problem at all it is being from Kerry but he is so damn good I cannot even hold that against him - he is a King from the Kingdom. However, he may as well leave the 'Banks' to Seán Ó Sé and to Jimmy Crowley. As for the dirty rotten bankers they should all be locked up on Spike Island - Ireland's answer to Alcatraz - without their iPhones. The Blaskets would be far too good for them!
for a translation of the version sung by Seamus Begley in this video (the second verse of the other translation given is a different version to the one sung here) click on the video (by me Daithí Mac) in the video response box above. The chords for the song are also here :-)
One of the most love Irish native songs.. R.I.P. Seamus ☘️

Whatever song has the honor of being sung by Seamus is elevated to excellence. The best male singer in Ireland and beyond.
My 11 month old falls asleep to this every night. Without question the best traditional singer. Mighty stuff.
Keith O'Malley couldnt agree more Keith!
God bless that child... And all children

A beautiful mood, the beautiful and pensive guitar accompaniment and the wonderful vocal. A wonderful song performance.

This sounds beautiful. Is there anywhere that has the English translation of this?
Rest In Peace big man. 9th January 2023.
Missing him already!
Mega-media is not always bad, if youtube's servers persist, so will this song and language... beautiful!
So nice....so fine. I'm not Irish but at this level it doesn't matter.
It is a very good music.
I want to know the meaning of the lyrics.
Thank you.

But that's not what he's singing.
@@leehealy1 The first stanza is verbatim the same as he is singing. The second is different. He's singing the third stanza instead. I'm not sure.
File under 'perfect'.
Safe home, Seamus. God bless you
