  • Ceoltóirí ó Chorca Dhuibhne. Seamus and Máire Begley perform An Ciarraíoch Mallaithe
Folk singer Albert Fry introduces Séamus Begley (Ó Beaglaoich) on accordion and his sister Máire Ní Bheaglaoich on acoustic guitar from the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht who perform ‘An Ciarraíoch Mallaithe’ (The Cursed Kerryman). Often described as a love song, the singer is a travelling worker who does his best to convince a woman of means to come away with him on his travels.
Má leanaim go dian tú siar chun Cairibreach
Caillfead mo chiall mura driallfair abhaile liom,
Óró, bead ag sileadh na ndeor.
‘An Ciarraíoch Mallaithe’ is also the title of an album of songs and airs from the Dingle peninsula recorded by Máire and Séamus Ó Beaglaoich in 1973 and released by Gael Linn.
‘Togha agus Rogha: Christmas Show’ broadcast on 25 December 1974. The presenter is Albert Fry.
‘Togha agus Rogha: Christmas Show’ was filmed in front of a live audience in Clonliffe College, Dublin and was produced by Seán Cotter.
RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta’s popular and long-running traditional music series ‘Togha agus Rogha’ was first broadcast on 6 February 1973.
In the 1970s Christmas specials in the form of traditional music programmes were recorded for the RTÉ’ Christmas schedule and broadcast under the title of ‘Togha Agus Rogha’.

Séamus would have only be 25 years old when this was recorded.. R. I. P. One of all time favourites

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since Seamus passed away. What a great raconteur, singer and box player he was!

I met Seamus few years ago on a gig in Munich together with Tim Edey. What a great human being and fantastic musician and singer. Miss him and his humour and music!
