I collapsed when I heard this album and got revived by it, the healing powers it has. Kelela really created something that wasn't there in the r&b genre. It's a modern classic that I will be playing for my kids
Kelela can’t do anything but produce classics, I don’t know how she does it, is leaves me speechless

I was listening to “Fooley” on repeat today and wow, what a song😭
My gf put me on to Kelela and I’m very thankful. She’s truly an artist that cares about her craft. She’s intentional, vulnerable, and ethereal. I feel like I’m breaking through my own personal cocoon when I hear this through to the end. And I’ve heard this in its entirety many times already. I don’t think she (my gf) expected me to like this project as much as she did but we both recognize true artistry and mastery. It’s clear to us that Kelela makes timeless music that requires your attention and rewards you with a blissful out of body experience. I love the way you react to each track because same lol

Best album of the year so far
Always love your videos! Washed away feels like she's treading through/submerged in water. Through the course of the album and by the time Far Away comes, it sounds like she's soaring through the sky like a Raven after all she's been through. Far Away made me put everything down the first time i heard it. This is so healing.
You know something interesting I just realised, the transition from on the run to missed call, where she dials numbers on a phone and says “hello” then the breezy guitar music plays, that could be interpreted as the waiting music you hear when you’re on hold over call, this is after listening to the album about 15 times😂
I wonder what other things there are to discover 😭
Your excitement for this album exactly mirrored mine. Kelela really came back with an exquisite record and gave us so much beauty. This is already my AOTY.

The thing that gags me is that Raven changes throughout the song, like there were so many changes I was almost in shock at the end, we were never ready for this

Kelela is my faveeee take me apart is my favourite r&b album so I was so excited to hear Raven. Love Raven too. A lot of songs grew on me. My top 3 are Raven, Bruises, and On the Run

Take me apart is my fave of all time too tbh. I listen to a range of music so it’s a bit all over the place. Most is Beyoncé and Rihanna’s catalogues are my fave lol. I love classic r&b and neo soul, albums like the velvet rope, love by Sade, mama’s gun by Erykah and both brown sugar and Voodoo by D’angelo. Channel Orange and when I get home are my fave contemporary r&b albums other than TMA. Illmatic by Nas and broke with expensive taste by Azealia Banks are my fave hip hop albums. Homogenic by Bjork made me fall in love with avant garde. To bring you my love by Pj Harvey and Speaking in tongues by Talking Heads made me appreciate the rock genre too. Amy Winehouse and Billie Holiday made me love Jazz. I guess that’s why I’m such a Kelela stan cause she literally combines all of the music I love into one lol.

I love the concept!! Everythings sounds fluid, aquatic. If you look at the overall sound of washed away (intro) and far away (outro), the intro is way more light and ethereal, whereas the outro is dark and gloomy. Throughout the album she progresses deeper into the water, the ocean with every song.
What you’re saying makes so much sense

@@Peighter i love her scatting abilities on far away. It just shows how versatile her vocals are and it adds so much depth to the song without it depending on lyrics.

So to the fans out there KAYTRANADA only produced one track on raven lol and that’s “on the run” I think folk are disappointed in that! But I’m in LOVE WITH THE PROJECT! Amazing project

@@Peighter facts! Once “fooley” starts the album changes drastically! And to be honest I been listening to the 2nd part of the album alot more because it feels like she is communicating on how she is tryna liberate herself from someone or something!

Revisiting this reaction and album, two things stick out to me: 1) You can always tell when an artist has a jazz background. 2) I know Kelela has a deep love and admiration for Little Dragon and Yukimi Nagano, and something that both of them do is this slow vibrato that’s so ELEGANT. Love this album!
