The fly is another one of the first weirdo movies I ever saw. A good freshman year flick. Videodrome is more sophomore/junior. What were some of your early intros into cinema
@@jeanpaulpascal8479 true. serbian film has such a huge reputation that everyone thinks of it as this unholy grail of disturbing movies but in actuality its just a lot of blood and sex with an almost humorous plot that is just so over the top that it gets silly and almost comedic at times.
NuclearPeanuts I mean, shit like newborn baby rape porn etc sure is gut-wrenching and vomit-inducing. But other than that it’s indeed a really stupid movie that offers nothing, but shock content.
If you see any of the interviews with the cast and crew of Videodrome; the original script that got James Woods, Debbie Harry, and Rick Baker (SFX specialist on the film, same guy who did the SFX on American Werewolf in London.) interested in doing the project, was far more insane and strange than the final product we ended up getting. Cronenberg was re-writing the script as they were filming. Re-writing scenes sometimes as they were filming them, or the week and day before. The making of Videodrome is a really interesting story. I highly recommend picking up the Criterion Collection version, as the extras on the Blu-ray (the version I bought) really delve into how chaotic the process was, and you would never know it when you watch the film. Videodrome is a classic and was absolutely ahead of it's time. It was also prescient in many ways about the future of TV, and video entertainment. Some of the lines in the film, like Brian O'Blivion mentions that one day we will all be going by different names, like stage names. Oh, how right he was. He just didn't know it would be on the internet rather than TV. There are so many of these little moments that just sets Videodrome apart from many of its contemporaries.
When the TV pulsates, I get flashbacks to when I used to do shrooms. Crazy shit, very accurate to what happens. Everything looks like it's breathing. I even remembering doing a 4g trip, BIG MISTAKE. Don't ever do an ego death unless less you plan ahead of time. That's the trip where you hallucinate proper, I'm talking faces and eyes appearing from nowwhere screaming at you, fractal colors cascade and boom in your peripheral like an ocean of light. My sister was so mad when I overdid it😂😩. But yeah, will never do it again, maybe when I'm older and more responsible and with friends, but right now, hell no...
you've honestly become my favourite movie reviewer! your videos are so funny and well done, i've binge-watched them all and i can't wait for your next ones! :)
@@janedoex1398 I'm more a city of the red night guy myself. I used to give new and potential friends Naked Lunch to read early on. Just to get a measure of them, I don't hang out with a lot of people it weeds out the weak fairly easily. If they made it past page 17 without giving up I stuck with them.
Your endless puns have given me a lot of laughter in a rough start to this new year just want to thank you for providing some levity and actually getting me to laugh. I give this channel 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
Hey, you kind, hilarious, amazing sir. You're freaking amazing, I just cannot even. My midterms starts from Monday and I'm so stressed, you don't even know, and you YOU made this study break so worth it. I forgot the stress and BS of life and crap, so THANK YOU. I appreciate you so much, thank you for doing what you do. Also, PS, I really loved your videos with Queen Bee, so would love to see them! PSS: OH MY GOOD GOD I LOVE THIS VIDEO.
insane to me that a good portion of the folks watching this only known David Cronenberg via Rick and Morty...i mean, i love the show, but i hope those whom have discovered Cronenberg via Rick and Morty have done some deeper digging in order to discover the glorious tumour in the rough that is Cronenberg Cinema. keep up the magnificent work, Mr. Bee! (as i'm sure you can tell by my comments randomly peppered throughout the comment sections of your video in the span of a single evening, i'm buzzin' through your videography...)
As a Canadian, I just adore Cronenberg`s films, especially Naked Lunch, which I play while I paint. Interesting enough, I`ve never seen this flick. I`m gonna watch it now, thanx for the review.
3:08 Correction: '80s music fans will know her as the SINGER for Blondie. Blondie is the group, consisted of (at the time) Deborah Harry, Chris Stein, Clem Burke, Jimmy Destri, Nigel Harrison, and Frank Infante.
@@theNewBee It's just strange how so many people did that (including my parents) because Blondie was the name of the group. She even stated "Blondie, that's the name of the group" in her appearance on The Muppet Show. But the group WAS named from how passing drivers would call out at her, saying "Hey, blondie!"
Come on people 50k subs - I wanna see him squirm watching films like Rare Exports. ... and the original and much superior Girl with the Dragon Tattoo .. ..oo can I do foreign film requests? do Wasabi !! we love Jean Reno!
By watching this awesome channel I've learned one thing. Don't run away from it don't deface it embrace it......thank you so much for the sickness and the wonderful humor
I remember watching this but I can't recall why I watched it in the first place... Anyhow it did freak me out a bit. But hey I have a great movie to recommend! It's a Spanish movie called Thesis. It's very creepy and has also something to do with snuff videos (it's a lot better than Videodrome).
ive seen this movie a bunch of times now. its one of those movies where i have no idea what happened after i watch it. what scenes i do rememeber i cant remember what order any of it happens in. im not even certain i didnt just fall asleep and missed half of it.
Videodrome is one of those cult movies, like Zardoz or Altered States (two other interesting movies for your channel), that can be analysed endlessly. It's my favorite Cronenberg movie. I also like The Fly and Existenz.
I interpreted the ending as his programming telling him his death would end videodrome. In reality it was just getting rid of him because he was no longer useful.
Have you ever seen "Dead Ringers"? It is another David Cronenberg movie and it doesn't get enough attention. Jeremy Irons gives an amazing performance! Would love to see you review that.
Was "this is the new bee" an intentional reference to the new flesh? Was it more, just your sign off? I guess I'm asking, was it a conscious/deliberet thought?
Imagine if there was a Soft reboot of this movie where where it's about the Internet and the characters thought that this weird link was from a Dark web porn Studio.
When the guy started face sucking the giant lips on the pulsating T.V. I thought that was so weird and crazy, but then the jokes just made me laugh like hell, always funny.
So I watched this the other night. And...I’m pretty sure I watched this somehow when I was really young. Because I remembered a TONNE of it. Still, I turned out okay...I think....ish...
Max turned Harlan's hand into a World War I style hand grenade. You see, it's a "hand" grenade, har de har... That was Cronenberg's idea of a joke. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stielhandgranate
With the current lockdown and all live TV being conducted from people's basements, Dr. O'Blivion would fit right in. No one appears live on TV except in a Zoom box.
One of my very first weirdo movies. I think it's a good one for intro into good cinema. Army of darkness was my very first. Much better for a first. Videodrome is more sophomore year
Eyyyy I never made out with my tv when Linda carter was onscreen but I did hero worship her as Wonder Woman. Glad someone else remembers that show! I saw this movie and it's SO WEIRD but so Cronenberg. If you gonna do A Serbian Film, good luck. I've never seen it but lord, I have seen some reviews and...damn, man. I wish you sciencespeed.
I guess what is really disturbing about this movie is the idea of a visual conduit of either infected insanity, or physically altering mind control. Luckily in reality neither of these actually exist. I guess you could reboot it into a Matrix today.
Well that was...........weird
Imagine Cronenberg directing "Babe".
During the "That'll do pig" scene, the pig would turn inside out while the farmers eyes would explode.
I wanna see that. Like, *really* wanna see that. Not that I would fap to it or anything. *-_-;* Have you seen 'Lily C.A.T.'?
Maybe not; George Miller , the director of Mad.Max directed Babe. Maybe Cronnenberg could direct a family friendly movie too.
"when they removed my hemorrhoids ... it was called Baywatch Nights"... genius
Fantastic video to pop up after just finishing work, would love to see you tackle The Fly someday
that would be a good review
I love all of his reviews, that one would be extra special though because the The Fly (86) is one of the greatest horror films of all time!!!!

It’s good to see these comments and just have watched that review yesterday.
nothing better than chronenberg and coffee to start the day
For the love of god and everything that is holy DON’T watch a Serbian film..
It really isn't that bad in my opinion almost felt like a comedy at times , Martyrs(the original one) on the other hand was horrifying though

Depends on what affects you more. It may not be worse.
Ohhh it’s worse alright. Lmfao
Depends what kind of gore makes you sick I guess
I can't watch a Serbian Film, just knowing about that scene with the pregnant lady and the baby... no thank you.

He tries too hard, and at times, it comes off as a little embarrassing IMO.
James Woods has looked the same for 40 years.. yikes!
I was thinking of getting this from arrow video just because i love cronenberg, naked lunch being my favorite

Persephone Black in terms of like filming gross sex and torture and shit

crash brought me to videodrome and some other cronenberg classics....shivers, rabid, the brood, etc.
