A tour of our deep freezers and the system we use to protect the freezers in a power outage. To learn more about our family follow us on Instagram @threerivershomestead
I recently found your channel and have been playing them as I can. I have already fell in love with your family! We are a family of 8. Although our 6 children's ages differ a bit. We have a 21 yr old, 19, 17, they still live at home yet I only see them as they are always in and out with work and college. Then we had a 10 gap and then God continued to bless us with our little 3 ages 7, 3, and 6mos. I love seeing you balance things. I know everyone has their moments but these videos are a breath of fresh air for me to juggle everything. I pray the best for y'all and so wish we lived close, as I know our families could be best friends.
I loved this video. On fact we just changed our freezer and now we've a bigger one. I'm happy because I cook a lot (I've a cooking UA-cam channel 🥰) so its perfect! You gave me new ideas too!
Your freezer situation looks similar to ours except yours are better organized. That’s on our to do list around here. Doesn’t it feel great knowing we grew all that food and worked so diligently to store it away??!! Thanks for sharing! -LeeAnn
You my dear are an amazing homestead mom. My question to you is what will you do with all that food if the electric goes out? You say you are spiritual so you can probably see we have entered into some of Mathew 24 (End of Days) stuff. I use my woodstove to dehydrate stuff; so I can tell you it is possible. But you have so much. Just food for thought. I have a small 2 acre homestead in the mountains of NH surrounded by wilderness. Its God who set me up with this blessed place. have a blessed day
I just found your channel and absolutely love the world of information that you provide in them. This video in particular has my curiosity on what kind of generators that you use if in the even utilities go out. Would you be willing to share what kind you have? I have just started to learn the canning of food process and have purchased a couple of freezer chest, and I do worry about the electricity going out. I am a single woman that has two young college aged daughters that reside with me, and not one of us has a clue on what kind of generators to get. I have one 5 cu ft freezer chest, and a 7-cu. ft freezer chest. Any helpful suggestions on what type or brands of generators to buy, would be greatly appreciated.
You could think about selling your excess as that would free up space as well as make you money without the extra work . Like a seasonal market or farmers market or something
We buy our dried goods - grains, beans, baking supplies, etc. Plus a few treats here and there - chocolate chips, tortilla chips, and things like that.
Also generators running on gas are not good for long term power outage because the gas station needs power to pump the gas. So unless you have heaps of gas stored somewhere, you could run out. I would look at solar power as a backup.
We buy our grain through Azure Standard. We bring it into the house, let it thaw and meet any condensation dry out, and then store in air tight containers. Usually fine gallon buckets with gamma lids.
Hello love your youtube. Can you please do some shows on freezing food. How to and what to. Please, Please Please. I have a humungus freezer that is bare. I would like to fill it with fruit and veg. To start with, how do you freeze your whole tomatoes, do I need to blanch them and if so for how long????
Every once in a while. If we freeze things properly and get the air out if bags we don't have much of a problem. We cycle through everything in a year, so that really helps.
Hello, I have a question. Reguarding freezing your food. So is there anyway you can tell me. How long does your meat and frozen fruits and veggie last. I know it's. Not an exact science but I am learning and freezer burn is something that has me baffled.
If you search online there are lots of different lists. How long those foods last will depend on how they were prepared (blanched or not) and what they are stored in.
Our electric bill is actually really reasonable. We offset the cost of the freezer with other things. We don't have central air and only heat with wood in the winter. We also do not have an electric dryer and try to cook on our woodstove as much as possible.
@@threerivershomestead Good deal. Not sure how you manage without a dryer with that many kiddos, kudos! Electricity gets expensive where I'm at in MN so just curious
Sounds like you work your butt off and need a dryer and an air conditioner SHHHHH I hope the utubs gets you THESSE things or better frezzers engery saving good luck hope your hubby is a good farmer and not pa keddle
I got rid of the dryer on purpose. I enjoy hanging laundry. My husband doesn't farm. He works full-time off the homestead and does a great job taking care of us!

It is so great to find other homesteading and homeschooling families on youtube. We are just starting our youtube channel.
Your “every bit counts” challenge really inspired and pushed me to preserve for my family. We have fully stocked deep freeze and pantry.
I never knew you could freeze your canning jars. That is a wonderful idea. Thanks for show this.
Came for the freezer tour, but the baby stole my heart!🤗😍 So precious! Thanks for sharing!

Loved the tour, thank you!
Great idea on the set up for the generator back up. Going to pass that information onto my son. Hopefully he can do it here also.
You inspire me!
Great idea to have the generator backup! I'm going to have to share your setup with my husband. Thank you.

We have a generator attached to these freezers in case of a power outage

for some reason you remind me of late 1800's dutch farm girls !

This must take your grocery bill pretty low? What do you supplement from the store? Love all these!

And gas cannot be stored long term. I just got a propane powered generator, but now need to build up propane inventory!
Please do a video on how you render the lard if you haven’t already!
Will do!
I want to start to freeze things more next year. Not sure how to start . Recommend and books / resources to get me started? I love your videos
I love the Ball Blue Book for basic food preservation guidelines. It tells you how to prepare most fruits and veggies for freezer storage.
Three Rivers Homestead thank you
Do you blanch the veg before freezing or just freeze them as is? Thanks for the tour Jessica
Thanks! Where do you buy your grain from? Thanks for the frezing tip. After you've freeze it is it okay to bring in the hoise and leave as is?

what brand of large upright commercial freezer is that in your garage? are you happy with it?
What kind of herbs do you have hung up drying behind you?
Even if you have a list, with general time line.
I didn't know you can freeze jars??? Love your videos I'm learning alot! Where do you get all of your energy from? ❤
I get the energy from necessity 😂 Thank you ❤️
@@threerivershomestead such a great answer, Jessica! 😂

I freeze whole tomatoes raw
Have you thought of using solar panels if that is a possibility as a source of power in case of an outage?
We have looked into it. It's just very expensive
Newbie question about freezing in jars: do you have to keep those jars separately and not use them for canning after freezing?
No. You can still use them for canning
@@threerivershomestead Thank you!
Do you get freezer burn on your food? If not how?☺

Do you have an alarm if freezers go off?
We don't currently. That's a goal for this year. We typically check freezers daily, but it would be wise to have an alarm.
How bad is your electric bill? Is eletricity pretty cheap where you're at?
