Hey Gene, make sure to update to the latest firmware when you do your testing. They've added AURO3D and Roon Ready support, as well as a dedicated Pre-Amp mode accessible through the web interface (Miscellaneous -> Pre-Amp Mode). You can also adjust the DSP Filter (Sharp, Slow, etc.) under Audio -> Digital Filter. To access the full range of options in the web UI, you need to login with 'ciuser' as both username and password. Looking forward to the review!
@@25aceface yep already tested preamp mode. Thanks
Happy you looked at Onkyo again
I have an RZ-50 and love it. Dirac is a game changer.
I have the RZ50 to, I don't notice a big difference with Dirac.
Looking forward to the full review
I have one running all channels 7.2.4 and this unit in a monster, amazing sound and tones of power. My theater is alive , Atmos is wonderful and DIRAC is truly amazing. I tried a few other receivers in my build and nothing came close to the quality of sound this guy puts out it is just a magical beast.😊😊😊😊
Love my RZ-50, so I'm expecting great results. 👌
I bought an RZ50 but it choked on my 4ohm Martin Logan speakers. Exchanged the RZ50 for the RZ70 and it drives them like a champ. Very happy with the RZ70.
The RZ50 wasn't powerful enough?
@@michael-4k4000 i previously had an 807 and 646. Neither had a problem with 4 ohms. I was surprised the RZ50 did. I wondered if I just got a bad one, so i went back to the store and tried the RZ50, RZ70, and Sony 5000ES that were on display at the store with ML towers and a different RZ50 had same problem.
@@marco469 interesting. What was the problem exactly? Or did it just not get load enough for u.
Getting mine tomorrow, hope i get some sleep :) Can't wait, thx for this video :)
Gene still plays with his Wii - confirmed 👍
Can’t wait to see review
Great video as usual, I hope you are going to bench test the Marantz Cinema 30
I love seeing Onkyo still doing their thing. I’m fond of their sound quality for 2-ch music listening vs other AVR products out there. I also love their appearance, which is reminiscent of their 1980s receivers I grew up with. When it comes time to replace my TX-NR777 I will probably get an RZ-50 or 70. I do wish they still made matching Blu-Ray players, however. My SP309 is a beautiful match but does not play 4k discs.
Have an RZ50, this is my first and only Onkyo. It's been in for service 2 times. The customer service isn't that good.
I got a Onkyo TX-NR696 I had a Denon 2100h. I got the ONKYO for free because the guy was mad because he found out they were part of Klipsch and he don’t like Klipsch . So I stopped at his yard sale asked him what he wanted for it he told me to take it and enjoy. Free of charge.
You gave me a good laugh for seconds. Thank you
I have a pre-resurrection Onkyo TX-RZ820 that I ran for many years before replacing it with a Denon 4800X last year. It is a fantastic AVR. I am looking forward to Gene's Onkyo's post-resurrection in depth review of this AVR. I have been a fan of Onkyo for years and am really rooting for their full throated return to the AVR world.
I got the rz50 paired up to some JBL S series from 99/01 era with 2 klipsch 12 subs. 9.2.2. With the dirac calibration its sounds really immersive in my 25x25 rec room.
i have the rz70-- it is the best avr on the market
Right on. I bought the TX SR 805 in the mid 2000s. That 80 lb 7.1 beast is still rocking my friends stereo. His old amp blew, and i came to the rescue. When Onkyo makes a proper amp, it jams.
Had surround codecs not evolved, it would still be the brain of my home theater
Just took one of service last year .Loved the sound ...but the hdmi video was a problem for many years.
Mine died after 2 months 😢
Sony AZ5000es or AZ7000es would be in the same price category and sounds exceptional.
The 5000es would be the 11.2
I call onkyo stonkyo because they generally bring the power but they had HDMI board issues for quite some time, hopefully that's sorted. I would consider them if my Sony str-da5400es ever dies, 4 ohm speakers can't even kill it.
That interface to set up calibration levels looks nice and clear.
Yes! Thank you for what you do. Looking forward to the bench test. Would you do an RZ-50 review? I'm getting ready to add Atmos with the RZ-50 and found that I cant add a 3 channel amp to the front stage. Why would Onkyo do that?
I just added the Emotiva BasX-3 to the front sound stage of my Onkyo RZ-50 without any issues. I am running 7.1 and adding Atmos in the future. The Rz-50 does require a separate amplifier for the last two channels of the Atmos speakers, through the pre-outs.
In my experience ( rz50)...I added 2 channel amp to get the 11 channels. The 2 channel amp powers the rear bed layer surround...not atmos.
@@CadillacJack82 I stand corrected. I just looked up in the manual and you are correct. You can set up a 5.1.4 without added amplifier, but if you add rear surround speakers (7.1.4), you have to use the two pre-outs for the surround back speakers.
@wispiwispi1889 it is odd to me why Onkyo have it set up this way. But it's what we have to work with (rz50 owners)
@@CadillacJack82 I don't mind it. When I add the 4 Atmos, I was going to get an Emotiva Basx-4 for them, but now I will just put the BasX-4 on the side and rear surrounds and just use the Onkyo rz50 for the Atmos speakers. All of my speakers are Martin Logan XT 4 ohm speakers (F100, C100, B100, MP-10s). I only have 1 pair of B100s and the C100 right now.
Do you think getting A/V PrePro over this will be a worthwhile buy? Will it be a major different?
Forgot to say when you were benching the onkyo.
I have the TX 830 but The Harman 445 was a bit more Class A
Composite video and component video inputs?
😲
Please help, my Denon X4700H does not have a center spread selection. Please advise. Thanks so very much
Is it worth it to get the Integra version?
Only if you need the extra CI features
Integra has full XLR outs
@Nobody-fz4rj The Integra DRX-8.4 does not have XLR outs for all channels. It has XLR outs for the 3 main/front speakers and the two subs. I set mine up a few weeks ago.
Gene, i want to know how many watts it puts out to surrounds with 7 channels driven! How many watts will my rears get in 5.1 and 7.1 vs watts for fronts. Thank you Gene, keep rocking 🎸
It has a powerful 1.1 Va power supply, all things being equal it will deliver around 75 watts per channel @ 8ohms all channels driven (11). It has the power to deliver around 160 watts into 8 ohms for 5 speakers,in theory. 🤔
Good to see Onkyo back on the channel, your physique is looking great too!
Maybe I should get an Onkyo so I can be shredded. Ha ha
I’m a little sour that Klipsch group bought and cancelled the Mirage brand, but the crossover feature is pretty cool, and I hope that the fresh blood from Klipsch helps Onkyo/ Integra/Pioneer flourish. Looking forward to bench tests, and hopefully some PioneerElite flagships down the line.
I need a receiver, your thoughts? This is what I'm trying to push! Currently I am using a Denon AVR 1803, and it does okay, but I want more! So in the front I have a pair of Cerwin Vega AT12's, the rear pair consists of my Klipsch KLF 30's, and a Velodyne sub. This is going to be just to listen to music, not going to be hooked up to any video, so absolutely do not need or want a center channel. I want something just dedicated to, front channel, rear channel, with a sub out. Tried reaching out to ABT electronics, they said all the new stuff, is all 5.1, 7.1, etc, so ?
Can you do a video on Dirac and if you recommend it over Audessey? I’m still new to your channel. TY
Hoping RZ-90 &/ or Pioneer 900’s series has class D ☹️
O I really wanna see measurements
Can you do more content on room EQ? Most of what I’ve found is old.
I want to see how this performs I was interested in it but decided to go for a denon 6700h new that was on a good sale instead for 7.2.6.
Of course for a 7.2.6 config you need an additional stereo power amp. Had a 6700H for several weeks an returned it for video issues and remote had issues also but the audio was fine I had a separate power amp to run 7.2.6
Roon Ready!
Do you work a 9-5? Or this your job I wanna know pls
Lmao
Weird ass request
Comparison to Denon X6700H which is currently available for less than $2000.00?
Are there two fans I noticed when you held it up the two circular vent openings?
Trying to choose between this and the yamaha a8a. Which one do you recommend?.
This
You forgot the new Sony ES 7000!
Way to go Gene! 👍🏼 Nice most muscular! 😉💪🏼
it is frustrating to me that onkyo can manage to include Dirac but marantz charges extra for it
True but Marantz offers Audessey for free. The choice is nice.
Dirac fees are ridiculous.
No love for the Sony 7000 ES?
Onkyo is still around?
Yep, good products, got the tr 7100, really like the included Dirac with no additional costs. Besides that everything works, zero problems.
Apparently a few years ago they finally fixed their hdmi boards problems but didn't market it as upgraded hdmi boards and try to get customers back. Also recently did bankruptcy as result of not doing that sold off to some of the big groups combined with other top brands. I was never going back, but now if the budget ever allows me I would definitely consider one if they include Dirac built in.
🙄
Sound United was to buy them 5 years ago then they declared bankruptcy two years ago .Now they are back from the grave.
😂😂
hmm...I don't want DIRAC in anyway. :/
So sad their LCD screen is the same as the 2008 models.
I like the old type screens. In the same way someone may appreciate an analog watch. Screens are everywhere these days and IMO kind of boring even if they look slicker.
I would love a pre/pro version of this….for less !!! Yeah right , I know
This product could cost less by offering it without all the "smart" stuff.
If you want a basic 11 channel amp there are plenty available. A receiver has many roles and people use them differently so it's cheaper to put in everything and make them all the same way than it is to offer different versions omitting various features to cater to a few tightwads who won't plunk down anyway.
Has anyone done a Russian doll joke on an unboxing video? It’s time someone did
