I almost died laughing. When it clicks, and someone is like "Wait...what?" is too funny.
Me too knowing she was going to be surprised.
SURPRISE!! It always gets them, just like when anyone really listens to the lyrics!
I dang near fell out of my chair with the 'what did I just hear?' look.....
It's the only reason I watched, knowing what was going to happen, a nice sweet young American girl. I hope it doesn't make me a bad person?
You sort have to know Soho London at the time of the song.
She said, "Did I hear that right?"
“I know I’m a man, and glad that I am.. and so is Lola.. the brake lights came on and your smile disappeared.. classic reaction to this line.. lol
As if every line before that in the whole song didn't point exactly to that outcome, lol!
@@dustysmoke4996 even Captain Obvious could figure that one out.. lol
@@luigipasquale3938 Just not Ashley, apparently ;-)
@@dustysmoke4996 I've not known a SINGLE American reactor ''get it' until 'that' line'. A lot of them STILL haven't got it when the songs over. Then there's usually some transphobic or homophobic nonsense from them.
@ Most people don't bother to actually listen to and absorb the lyrics. Sometimes not even after dozens of hearings. The song makes it plain, most listeners just aren't very good at it.
Every time I see reaction to this song, I just wait for the light bulb to go off and you figure it out... yours was a hard stop, all 4 wheels brakes locked skrrrrt! LOL - you are real and fantastic!
I just couldn’t believe they were saying that about Lola 🤣🤣🤣
@@TheOfficialAshleyReacts LOL
Firstly she walked up to him and asked him to dance. Then she, nearly, broke his spine. Followed by Walked Like A Woman and Talked Like A Man.Then came "Girls will br Boys and Boys will be Girls" Then he pushed her away and "nearly" fell for Lola and then he said "I know what I AM and I am GLAD I'M A MAN and SO IS LOLA:)
@@TheOfficialAshleyReacts grew up when this came out. I didn't get it for nearly a decade.
@@TheOfficialAshleyReacts Now go listen to Lou Reed Walk on the wild side...
@@TheOfficialAshleyReacts ALSO we MUST introduce you to a FREAKING CULT CLASSIC The Rocky Horror Picture Show. ESPECIALLY The most iconic, historic scene in Movie history where a song called Sweet Transvestite is performed..
The look on your face was priceless. All the verses leading up that end show you what was going on
Absolutely I'm still laughing
This song is based on a real experience when the band's manager met a lady at a club where the band was performing only to discover later that said She was actually a He.
I loved when you finally got it!!!! Priceless!!! 😂😂🤪🤪👍👍
Me scrolling UA-cam: “ oh, Ashley’s about to meet Lola 😂😂 I need to watch this one!”
Same here.
I wasn't gonna stop;
'till I saw the song title.
definitely!!!!!
The moment it clicked 🤣
😂😂😂 I love it every time!
I was Twelve when I got it, ahh but I’m not American.
I first heard Lola I was 13 in 1971, me and all my friends knew who Lola was. We weren’t bothered and it’s a great song.
I've listened to this song so often only to watch the reactions. The Kinks were part of my teens in the 60s. Greatest music ever.
This has to be the funniest reaction to Lola I’ve ever seen… and I've seen a few! That moment when the penny drops is priceless.
Oh that was the best of all time
I can’t ever find a better I mean more entertaining reaction to this song
Soooooo good
Thanks✌️
I remember hearing this on the radio at the time, but I never listened to the words, only the chorus, and so everything that he was trying to say went right over my head, lol. I didn’t know what it was about until I started watching these reaction videos in the last year or so. Even so I get a kick out of watching people react to the punch line every time.😊
This was the first cd I ever bought was the kinks… I was 11 or so back in 80’s….. amazing band
Ha ha I only watched this video to see your face when it clicked and you did not disappoint! Well done!
😂😂😂 I was waiting for you to realize what Lola was, when you expression changed you made my day. After all they weren't known as the Kinks for nothing.
I just typed Lola reactions and found you. I was born in 67 and know the song well. I love seeing when people realize what the songs about. I just subscribed to you. I haven't seen your library yet, but you should react to Walk on the wild side by Lou Reed. I enjoyed your reaction.
"Shaved his legs then he was she."
Ashley in disbelief, had to listen 5 times 😂
That was funny
This song came out when I was in highschool and I knew what it's was about, even back then.
Every time. You sit and you wait, and you wait…. Then the lightbulb moment. Thank you, Ray, you were way ahead of your time.
4:13 🤣🤣🤣 I never grow tired of waiting for this reaction! Lola be from Transylvania honey! 😂
That's right Ashley, add up the clues,....😂 ❤ great reaction, my stomach hurts
The look of surprise, shock and realization is worth the price of admission!
It took a while but she got there eventually. Hilarious change of expression.
Lou Reed/Walk on the Wildside
Lovely, crazy song. It was not banned back in 1970 for its implicit sexual content, but because there was a reference to a commercial company. Ray Davis was flown back mid-tour , from the US to the UK, to re-record one line of this song.
You are absolutely right. I almost spit out my coffee when you got it. You were just grooving to the song and then suddenly stopped, with a look on your face like "huh... what?"
It is so funny to watch peoples reactions to the last verse when it finally hits them.
GOD I LOVE THIS!!!!!! Yep.....thats what he said!
Congrats you got it, Most reactors miss that last line, I’m glad I’m a man and so is Lola.
Yeah, but that could still mean that Lola is glad that the singer is a man...
@@SpaceCattttt That's what makes it such a great line. It can be heard either way but with the other lyrics, the first time listener is in for a surprise.
Love this song
Now THAT was a reaction.
The punch line gets 'em every time.
I love peoples expressions when it hits them ! imagine how it hit in 1970 ! as always I look forward to your reactions
I'm laughing, watching you figure out! Thanks for the fun. This some came out, when I was a teen. I didn't figure it out for a longggggg time, lol.
😅😅😅....thats one of the best....lol...u could see all the switches bein tripped...and then BAM there was light.
Love your reaction once again.❤
Great reaction! Classic.
Yes you heard it right!
It is always fun to see a reactor realizing the meaning of the song!
Most people do not pick up on the words the first listen. I probably didn't realize what this song was about until 5 or 10 years ago. I always just grooved to the song.
Had to hear it 4 times to get it. LOL Good one! Took me a few times hearing it on the radio back in the day.
I always watch Lola reactions for the drop…
Your sweet Ashley with your reaction. Lola is one of those funny songs. It takes everyone by surprise at first but the song is great and truly funny.😁
Hahahahaha 😂 great reaction. Always great when ppl catch it...
Lola is a man. The song is based on a true story experienced by one of their road crew when they were on tour.
Listen to the whole album as it is still relevant 50 years later. The "power man" is real. But then so is Lola; Love is real and it is where ever you can find it. I like being around folks that are in love, although their choices aren't necessarily mine,. I just hope to learn that some of that love rubs off and becomes an ingredient in my life. This album was the first time heard of that possibility. "Apeman" is another relatable fav from this album.
The line that no one seems to pick on is, "I fell to the floor. I got down on my knees"!
Great song. Fun. Nothing to be terrorized about.
Ha! I was waiting to see your reaction to the ending. Hysterical! If you listen again, there are clues throughout the song.
Classic song and classic reaction. Thanks for sharing both Ashley!
LOL most fun reaction ever 😂
TOOK YOU A WHILE!!!!!
It got played on the radio when i was a kid in the 60's and i guess the radio stations never really listened to the lyrics
Your reaction to finding out Lola is a man is freaking awesome!!
Brilliant reaction, your face when you realise😅😅😅😂😂😂
He's a trans.
Great music and lyrics with a practical joke built in.
I couldn't wait to see you face, lovely lady, your expression when it clicked was absolutely priceless! The line is, "Now I'm not the world's most masculine man but I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man and so is Lola."
The bands manager was getting along with a woman in a club. As the evening went on she develped a five o clock shadow. This song was inspired by that incidrnt
Subscribed, amazing, nearly wet myself 😂
The lyric "...I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man, and so's Lola." is very cleverly written, because it can be taken two ways: -
1. He is glad he's a man and so is Lola glad he is a man.
2. He is glad he is a man and so is Lola a man.
Incidentally, in Britain the words "Coca-Cola" had to be replaced by the generic term "cherry cola" because the BBC would not play a song with "product placement" in it.
Your reaction is one great reason we watch these videos. I was 12 when this song came out and was clueless about it for years. When my basketball team was playing in SF one of my teammates and I decided to go party after the game and caught a cab downtown. We saw what we thought was a hot chick on a corner but the cabbie told us “She’s a he.” Suddenly it all clicked. Ray Davies is a sly devil…
ahead of its time
I like that you got the clues in real time. Sometimes people don't pick them up. It's more confusing if you don't get them along the way.
We call it the penny drop situation and it took a while but well done, I think you got there in the end.
5:00 Just a rockin' and rollin' and then 💥!!!!! A reelin' from the roughin'!!!! 😝😝😝🤭
I actually thought you had clicked way earlier in the song - I laughed when your expression suddenly changed!!!!
I highly recommend the Lake Street Dive cover of this here on YT.
I remember my first trip to Thailand 😂
LOL!!! Thank You!!!
priceless reaction
Lola was a Lady / Boy !
You got it right
I remember when that song first came out, I was twelve... I interpreted that line as meaning that Lola was ALSO glad that the storyteller was a man...
Your reaction is golden!
"I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man. And so is Lola."
The clever thing about the line is that it can be read two ways: Lola is glad he's a man too - or - Lola is a man too.
That double meaning allowed the song to avoid 1970's censorship in a lot of places.
I'm only part way in but damn A, you are fucking cracking me up.😅❤❤❤
Now do Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side." 😂
Not Ashley furrowing her brow…..stopping and rewinding four times to hear if Ray really said “I’m glad I’m a man, and so is Lola.” I’m dead!! We’ve all been there when we first heard this song Ms. Ashley!!😂😂
The Kinks have great songs.
Priceless reaction 😂
A forgotten gem...good reaction here, bravo!
It’s funny when this gen find out what they are singing about 😅
Nice reaction! Very genuine. Next try Waterloo Sunset! Best Kinks song that never really hit here in the US.
Saw this feed....👏👏👏
took me about 10 tears before I actually LISTENED to the lyrics...wow
Check out their great song "Destroyer" , a little later in time but still one of the unmistakable Kinks power chords.
Surprise!
Your Face. Priceless.🤣😂
♀️ NVR Get IT! 😂
2.1.25. 💁🏻♂️Now you need to follow up this song with one from Lou Reed™️… “Walk On The Wild Side”©️and it will put this song into perspective.‼️🎯
Next for this theme: Lou Reed “Walk On The Wild Side”
Lolas next appearance would be in a bar in crocodile dundee
Yeah, yeah, yeeah, it is what you think it is, yeah.
It’s always makes me laugh when this Gen finds out about what the song is really about
fun video. thanks
He wasn’t “on his knees” because he dropped his wallet 😂😂
The song "Lola" is about an encounter between the protagonist and a person named Lola in a club. As the song progresses, it becomes clear that Lola is a transgender woman, which is surprising to the protagonist at first. The lyrics describe how the protagonist deals with this realization and finally accepts that he is attracted to Lola anyway.
The song addresses gender roles, identity and tolerance and was very progressive for its time. It was even censored in some countries because it was considered taboo at the time to speak openly about such topics.
🤣 so funny..
They set it all up in the first verse. When they serve you champagne, but it tastes just like Coca-Cola…
Lola makes him a man in the song. In real life, they didn't leave the bar together.
