Beyond the Concert Hall: Jon Kimura Parker

The Vancouver Recital Society's Founder & Artistic Director, Leila Getz, speaks to renowned Canadian pianist Jon Kimura Parker (known to his friends as "Jackie"). Jackie is a veteran of the international concert stage, and is on the faculty of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. Jackie and Leila discuss his concerts with the VRS as a young pianist, his Gold Medal win at the 1984 Leeds International Piano Competition, and their shared memories of the late Dame Fanny Waterman, founder of the Leeds Competition. They also chat about his work as Artistic Director of the Honens International Piano Competition, and how his early experience at Leeds informs how he looks at piano competitions today.
