Hey NL, here's a couple min-maxing tips for you if you're interested: - Once you get the big mountain, place rocks and mountains around it. It gives you +5 hp for each one you place. - You can turn meadows into blooming meadows by placing them next to ANY other tile (besides other meadows), including things like vampire mansions. - What I've found to be a good treasury set up is 2 rocks, one on top and one on bottom, and 6 meadows, 3 on each side. This way all the meadows will be blooming meadows. - If you completely surround your camp with placed tiles, the lich will not spawn any palaces. This is quite important since the lich is hella strong, even without the buffs. - You can use villages to stop goblin camps from spawning goblins. Creatures will not spawn onto a village tile (besides the bandits it seems, those aren't in the demo), so if you place villages on the tiles goblins would spawn, it stuffs them. Although I oblivion every goblin camp since they just stop your run dead on later loops. - The 'article of protection' trait you passed up is insanely good, I recommend taking it whenever you see it. I've found it to be the best trait in the game. - Just remove cemeteries from the deck. The skeletons are so powerful and don't give you extra good loot or anything. - Combining chrono crystals and meadows is good. They turn to blooming meadows and double their healing power. By placing a chrono crystal on a corner of the path, you can fit 2 meadows next to them. That's all I got off the top of my head. Been loving this game and looking forward to seeing you beat up on that damn lich.
Can confirm that the 65% total hp shield is insanely strong, it carried me through my first lich kill single handedly. Also, it's good to try to time your tile placement when you are about to spawn the boss when you are at the end of the loop instead of just starting it. That way you can decide when it's the best time to do it and you can try to coordinate it when you are at full hp and with good equipment. If you think you are not gonna make it through the next loop + the boss, it's best to stop placing tiles so you can retreat safely with 100% of resources instead. Good tips with the chrono crystals and surrounding the camp tho, I didn't think of it. That's some good eats right there
Yeah, I just took chrono crystals out of my deck cause I couldn't figure out how to make good use of them, but I think I'll sub them back in for the cemeteries.
I only beat him with that armor perk. And yeah screw the cemeteries. In fact if you can choose the armor perk, wait on that and take it right before the boss
idk NL, I'm not Korean, but I have learned English from you, just by watching youtube videos when I started, I had to use google translate a lot, and now I live in English speaking country, finished university and got a job
I mean I'm pretty fluent in english but I've gotta say a lot of that just comes from consuming english content. I was pretty well versed before I was made aware of NL, but he still taught some valuable new vocabulary. I've held an presentation in english class and just dropped a "I'm being facetious" in the middle of it while making a joke. My teacher asked my if that was a real word and how to spell it, because she couldn't believe it lmao
it's funny how this is so entertaining to watch! I think it's how Ryan is clearly enjoying himself combined with how fun the game looks, I hope the developers get well rewarded for their nice work
Valheim is great but it becomes a serious grind after a while. You think bronze is laborious to deal with, then you get to the swamp and think, shit, this is pretty hard. You put the work in and get iron gear after grafting through 20 crypts. Then you get to the mountain and you start to curse life itself. Not only do you have to get loads of frost meads just to survive there until you get a wolf cape (or you can fast track a lox cape to save some time), but the shit really hits the fan when you realise how painful mining silver is. Silver is just...well, you have to find it hidden underground, there's barely any in a lode compared to copper, and the amount of silver it takes to gear up and god forbid upgrade is abominable. The journey is great fun but the mountain killed it for me. Building gets better though in and after swamp as you get access to stone structure and iron plated building materials. But yeah in summary, great game especially for early access but it does drop off towards the end or rather becomes overly laborious for little payout. In my opinion of course. Anyway this is a loop hero vid lol, just saying this cos you mentioned valheim.
Hey northernlion, just finished a 6 day work week, you helped me so much after work and I will always look forward to your videos heart thumbs up emoji poggy
Huh, it seems like if you just put lots of random garbage around the camp, there won't be any space for the lich's houses to spawn, thus making the boss easier without requiring lots of obliviating.
As an English teacher in Korea I gotta say it is extremely beneficial that students hear Native speakers at a young age. Children's brains acquire language phonemes naturally at that age and it really shows in the pronunciation as they get older. I teach 6th graders and when I ask them why their English sounds good it's often 2 reasons (i went to English kindergarten or I lived in another country before) :D
I played the demo a bit NL and I found early on that damage to all was really strong for setting myself up for the future. What I mean by that is I ran the loop until lvl 11 or 12 enemies were spawning and getting super sick loot. I used oblivion to remove monster spawning tiles if my HP wasnt healing to full when I hit the camp. I think the best way is to slow play it and get really strong. One other tip is the blood grove tile can spawn a very hard enemy but the loot you get from it is absolutely worth the tough battle. It normally gives loot 2 or 3 levels above average and giving you a huge gear lead! Glad to see you are having so much fun!
Ramshackle is an alteration of the obsolete "ransackled" that was derived from the word ransack. However that's as far as the relation between the two words goes. Ramshackle is an adjective used to describe things that are poorly constructed or in a state of disrepair. Ransack is a verb that means 'to search in a disorderly or careless manner'. Although it is commonly used when talking about criminal activity, it can also be used to describe other situations from normal day to day life. Examples of the words in a sentence: The local motel was a ramshackle, so we decided to stay the night elsewhere. I ransacked my house but I couldn't find my phone anywhere.
I usually try to place treasuries as close to the path as possible. This allows you to place a chrono crystal nearby. You can get up to 4 blooming meadows around the treasury within range of your chrono crystal for a whopping 24 hp/day. Try to leave one 'side' of a treasury open, because if you get a second one you can double up the tiles for both. If you place anything down on a side it forces you to out the next treasury further away. When I beat the lich in the demo I had 86 hp/day, about 80 armour, 50% counter (with heal on counter) and was doing about 100 damage per hit. Only had 10% vamp but when you are doing 100 it's easy.
Thanks a ton for responding to my comment on Dostoevsky on the stream today. I always heard you reference him and notes from underground, and if the literature bug ever hits you again I’d recommend some of his other work. As a Russian literature major I can say that notes from under ground is not very pog rich, but even excerpts from the Brother’s Karamazov, Crime and Punishment, the Idiot, or the Gambler reign pog from the heavens. I would also recommend Tolstoy or Chekhov’s short stories; they are simple and interesting.
There is lots of great tips, one more, when you are about to summon your boss wait till you are very near your camp and spawn all you have then, so that you dont have to do an extra loop full of things
His evaluation of Vampirism vs Evasion is always so confusing to me. You can think of them both as healing stats except every time you dodge with Evasion A. It scales with faster since monster damage is always going up B. It needs no other support from other attributes, like say Vampirism reliance on attack speed C. A 10% chance to dodge with a single item is insane!!! You’re taking 10% less damage per loop.
First of all, mega pogged to get two loop hero vids in 1 day. And now an info dump: A big, big caveat, my focus is on first language acquisition, but I do have some experience in ESL and second language acquisition With regards to language acquisition there are a couple of things we might want to consider: 1) Age of student - this might matter because depending on what part of language we are looking at, there are different periods called "critical periods" where, before that time, the student seems to have a mechanism that aids in the acquisition process. For sounds in language, that time seems to be around 6 months - sentence and grammar structures are a little older, and there is a lot of conflicting studies on when the critical period might be, anywhere from 4 all the way to 13. But, the younger the better. The reason this might be relevant is that below that threshold, language is less of a thing you learn consciously, and instead seems to boil down to pattern recognition. We know children have remarkable statistical power and can make generalizations adults struggle with from small sets of data. And the generalizations they make are usually accurate, although it might take time to zero in on the fully correct grammar So, if the teacher is teaching young children, then even if it appears the children aren't overtly learning anything (or gaining metalinguistic knowledge - knowledge about language), they are still learning the patterns behind the scene (gaining linguistic knowledge - building the correct grammar in their head) 2) From what we know about (second) language learning, input is the most important factor that contributes to learning the language. Input is any example of the target language (the language being learned). So in a real sense, just hearing English is a huge help to English learners, especially from a native english speaker. Not all input is made equal, and it is true that passively speaking to students, even if they are young and below a critical period, will not be as effective as supported input. This is where pedagogy comes into play, theories of what kind of teaching, what mix of input and explicit teaching is most effective are still being researched and always will be. I could go on for a lot longer, but then i might fall into a technical rabbit hole.
Mountains and rocks around a 3x3 mountain will give you much better returns than placing another 3x3 since it doesn't create another big mountain. Also, losing 1hp per day by placing a meadow at corner of treasury is definitely worth it.
Sorry I haven't been commenting on all this hyper pogged content. I've just been so distracted with the pog that I forgot to comment for the algorithm. Chess, Luck be a Landlord, Loop hero, DEATH STRANDING???!!! RETURN OF TETRIS!!!Like come on man, the pog is just over flowing
I believe when it says +.5 hp* loop I think it means each time you do a loop the hp gain will go up by .5 hp. So on the fourth loop you will be getting 2 hp per roadside tile. On the 6th you will get 3 hp per tile. (It's not saying you gain flat .5hp per loop.)
NL, pausing during battle doesn’t do anything. Simply mousing over the equipment is what stops it. What it does do, however, is immediately pause after the battle ends before any time has passed.
Armor and rocks often just give more max hp. If your hp is already not at max, it's not very worth to build more. Focus on stats, if you don't play rocks they become resource for future runs.
I get the ESL teaching style though. Think of it like couching. You go in and show them how the game works from your perspective which is WAY above theirs. Then another person comes in to answer the questions they have to understand the inside words and jargon you used... and it just kinda works.
Watching him not look at easily over half his items and their stats is incredibly frustrating. Some of the best items will be gray. The best ring I've found so far was like lvl 6 and it had 20% evasion.
NL, my guess is that the reason you thought ransacked has an 'm' in it is because you were thinking of the word ramshackle, which would also be an appropriate word to use in the context of a ravaged, abandoned village.
That part about whether or not to be happy that bandits are restored as part of the world sounds a lot like the story in Dr. Stone where two tribes disagree on whether to restore civilization despite all its flaws of start over. I guess the "blank slate vs patchwork social progress" philosophical debate is on more than a few people's minds these days...
Hey NL when you put a treasury down it already accounts for the fact that it needs surrounding. You can put it in the farthest corner it lets you and you'll still have room for tiles around it. Also why are you refusing to actually surround them with anything other than meadows? Use rocks too. Please dude, 8 tiles around a treasury. Edit:oh thank god.

NL, you might have been thinking of the word "ramshackle" which has a pretty comparable meaning to "ransacked."
Why do you and NL both insist on the adjective form, haha? Ransack is a really common verb.
Sounds similar but those two words really have nothing to do with each other.
Ramshackle is an alteration of the obsolete "ransackled" that was derived from the word ransack.
However that's as far as the relation between the two words goes. Ramshackle is an adjective used to describe things that are poorly constructed or in a state of disrepair. looks like a sick game
Did I hear my guy right? NL said "intensive purposes" instead of "intents and purposes" right after realising he's been saying ransacked wrong
I think that was on purpose.
@@dud3inator I was thinking that too. Its certainly on brand for his kind of humour.
For optimal treasury placement you can try 2 rock adjacent to the treasury and 2 row of 3 meadows top and bottom.
Mountains and rocks around a 3x3 mountain will give you much better returns than placing another 3x3 since it doesn't create another big mountain. Also, losing 1hp per day by placing a meadow at corner of treasury is definitely worth it.

I like how NL said obliviate instead of obliterate.
Essential oils, soap, BALMS? You want it? It's yours my friend.
Ransacked buildings end up becoming ramshackle.
Armor and rocks often just give more max hp. If your hp is already not at max, it's not very worth to build more. Focus on stats, if you don't play rocks they become resource for future runs.
Ramsack is apparently a dialectical alternate for ransack.
