I've been watching your channel for a while and I'll be the first to admit I have no technical knowledge of what you do but I still find it entertaining I love these longer videos keep them coming.
“A man needs to know his limitations” sparky you’re going to light up like light bulb one day. What makes you think someone isn’t going into the meter room and turning the power back on ⚡️⚡️ Stay safe bro
This is true but I try to treat everything live. But ur right, u never know, they shouldn't go in there cus there power isn't cut off. But ur right u never know!!
I'm never too worried when it's 120/240v or 208 three chicken(lol), above that voltage and outside of being a few breakers deep, is super cautious mode.
oh, how lucky you are they left a big "service loop" of feeder wire. somehow leaving service loops has went to the wayside and everyone tries to make them look OCD symmetrical and the inspecturds love the eye candy, they zone out, eyes glaze over and they miss all the real issues.
if they're mid to late 1970's and newer, then yes that usually works out. now days you can cut them out and do a replacement exhaust fan pretty easily, but older units were and are a nightmare to get the right parts for. the last 30 to 40years of new installs, have been pretty easy to parts swap. I'm just old enough to have been beaten down many times and still run into dinosaur age junk all the time. no exhaust fans at all, cloth coated wiring, some are later pvc/other coated wiring inside, no ground wires and some with separate grounds bonded to the copper/iron water lines. which worked ok, until someone else comes along with CPVC/pex/polybutylene(yeah lol)
(Looks at price of complete new bathroom light/fan.) ($65) Might have been a better option for at least the second fan refurb/fix. Good stuff though, thanks! Helps just seeing what I might run across and how I might fix/solve it. Have done bathroom light/fan refurbs, so looked very familiar.
If I've learned anything on specifically parts are your likely to run into it agian order 2 to 3 😆. You can get a bad part or don't wanna make people wait a week. Smart move!
I was on a cloth wire convered house done by the homeowner in the box just today. The main lugs are triple tapped no disconnect i get it. I ask how old the place is before a price is discussed for a reason. I even say research and hunting down relics is hourly and extra!
Please get at least a cheap lock out/tag out device when working on similar panels…don’t want someone to come in behind you and flip the power back on while working in a panel.
seen ur lost video - 4:50 in and appreciate the comment...though i am skeptical this was done with good intentions and , if so, with a truthful motive... I would except to settle our individual indifferences & discrepancies... though i would like to hear it from the horses mouth...Give a call , officially unblocked my good buddy
honestly, you should have referred that to an electrical company and they should have replaced the whole panel. some things as such are just not worth the liability and headaches.
Electrical power company's are not responsible and/or liable for any electrical equipment past there electrical service connection located outside...homeowners are responsible for the Electrical Mast, Meter base and Breaker panel, Etc... that goes for commercial and industrial electrical services , in very rare occasions they'll supply the meter base, but will not install, as far as breaker panel, definitely not
or maybe i missed understood you , maybe you were implying to a licensed electrical contractor company...which Brian has his electrical license...i think it was more of temporary solution to restore power to the customer and eliminate as much potential electrical hazard as possible
@@ElectricSteve-l1z yes, just refer them to a local company for changeout. it's hard to change them by yourself in an apartment/rental in a timely manner and that one would likely need the wall opened and refinished, probably custom holes drilled in new panel for the SE and maybe other cabling. been a while since I fiddled with old gte sylvania/zinsco panel. they're known for all breakers, main lugs to lose tension and burn the buss bars. but most all brands tend to do that with age, the spring tension clip rusts and breaks, then they're lose on the bus and start cooking. we all know, once it's pitted, overheated and oxidized, it will never be right again. yeah, some times you can relocate the main lug/breaker to a new spot and abandoned the burnt lug/s, but the rest of the breakers are surely failing also.
@@throttlebottle5906 Yeah , I hear ya loud and clear , though i do'em all the time, and start having power restored in about 4hrs, The older the panel , the higher the installation cost and some pay out the nose depending what needs be done , especially on a main lug panel and i don't do drywall work , separate contactor... yeah this kid could never do a panel swap -out like this video.. way above his level of experience.....

Thanks man I appreciate it!!

Keep an eye out on garbage day and get an extension tube off an old vacuum cleaner
Good idea!

@@throttlebottle5906 yes it definitely helps out
In a Nutone, I think there are only about 2 different fan motors. Buy the cheapest model and rob the parts.
Yep I hear ya loud and clear !!!
