Sold I have been researching and going back and forth for weeks. I like looking into all aspects and reviews on things. I was torn between kudu, iron will wide, and serazors I am in new hampshire so I don't really have long shots often it's normally dense woods. I just shot a doe with the contour plus in 100 gn. Got a complete pass through shooting 28.5in draw at 65lbs. Arrow total weight was 540 gn. Double lung with an entry and exit that looked identical to the steel you shot! I’m completely sold and bought three more with some extra bleeders.

Well, I expected it to hurt the penetration more than it did. It is cutting 34% more tissue, but only penetrated 9% less. That's pretty impressive to me
Lusk, you should make a video of your entire setup. The whole bow setup, arrows in depth and most importantly, what broad heads you are currently using! Love your videos though! Super thorough!
Thanks Alex. I did a vid of my whole bow set up, called, "My New Rig"...and I always share my arrow set up in each of my tests. I use so many different broadheads, cause I like to test them in the field. I just posted a new vid of my scoring and testing process, and I included a list of my favorite top 5 fixed and top 5 mechs. Did you see that?
Interesting it/they held up for you so well. Have seen a couple of videos where they failed miserably going through bone. In one blade curled over into u shape, another it just blew up and came apart. I quit using them because of those video tests. Had never shot an animal with them myself though.
I've learned that anything can happen when big bones and crazy angles are hit. That is the drawback of a true two blade head like this, as opposed to a short, stout chisel tip.
Hey John! Great review. I wish the Contour PLus had a little better penetration. Out of all the heads you've tested what would you recommend for a bow shooting 260 fps with 420-grain arrow. I only have a 25" inch draw length and am hunting elk. Ps, I am also shooting the SR6 and love it! Thanks for your input
Great review John! In your honest opinion, for Midwest whitetail, 0-60 yards, 450g arrow, 270fps 27”dl and 65lbs vertix, would you take the kudu contour + or the IW Wides? I could get 6 kudus for 3 IW wides but is the performance and warranty of IW that much better than kudu +? Thanks for all your efforts in helping us hunters be better informed in our equipment! Hey Chris. Great question. Bottom line, both will get the job done, that's for sure. Here are the main differences: The Wide will give you an extra 10% of cut size, and it will probably penetrate an inch or two deeper into most animals. Additionally, it is less likely that the blade will roll over or bend. It is clearly a more lethal head...but is that worth an extra $13/head to you? Only you can answer that.
I'm a fan of single bevel broadheads, and these seem to fit the bill, except for how hard they will be to sharpen. I currently shoot Red Feather Archery RazorHawks (no longer in production, I think), and I'm looking for something to replace them if/when I damage or lose them. Have you tested any other single bevel heads that won't break the bank? A single bevel 3-blade head would be even better!
Always love all your great vids- wondering what your thoughts are on the quietest heads you have shot? Looking at making a set up specific for HI axis deer that seem to hear the arrow before you even release.
That's funny about them hearing the arrow before you release. My opinion on noise is this: Bow noise is HUGE. Axis are very wary animals and very fast. Your movement and the sound of your shot could definitely alert them and cause them to duck, as they prepare to leap away. I've had calm whitetails drop more than a foot at 25 yards due to bow noise. The heavier your arrow is, the quieter the sound of the shot will be...and the same is true for your bow. But arrow noise is a whole different issue. It's moving so fast that it's near impossible for an animal to locate its sound and move away from it. They may be scared off by an arrow hitting at their feet, if you miss, but it is very unlikely that they will run away from an arrow zipping by them. For all they know, it's a bug or a bird. And if your aim is true, it will zip thru them instead of zipping by them. Vanes are also a source of arrow noise, but I never worry about that either. All that being said, a low profile mech like the Sevr will be extremely quiet in flight. And low profile solid heads will be quieter than vented ones.
Wow! Another great video! I am on the fence for the annihilator 125gr and this one now. For whitetail, 31" draw,. 73lbs,. looking for shoulder smash capability w/ tissue damage. What way would you go? Thx
That's a good question. If your goal is smashing a shoulder, I would personally stay away from a true cut on contact 2 blade head, just cause they have a tendency to fold on a hard contact or angled shot on a joint. An Exodus is a great choice for that. The Ann is really tough; my only concern is the total cut size. I've not used them on animals yet, and largely for that reason. Unless you hit a really good spot, you're just making a pretty small hole.
Great video as always! Really trying to decide if this is the head for my for first archery elk hunt in September of 2022. I’ve recently upgraded to my first flagship bow (Mathews V3 27) and I’m shootings at 70# with a 27.5” draw. I’m shooting a total arrow weight of 444gr (125gr broadhead) with a 16.5% FOC. Like you said in your review, I want to maximize cutting surface with enough penetration for a pass through shot while also having some comfort of penetrating bone on a less than perfect shot. I like the single bevel, cut on contact for penetration (including bone) but love the extra security of the bleeders. Just curious as to your thoughts on this broadhead for my particular set up or if you would have a different recommendation all together. I’m sure I’m over thinking it but I want to make sure I’m maximizing my chances for success and an ethical harvest. Thanks for all of your videos and reviews - they are extremely informative and help a lot of us narrow down our setups.
This is a great option for you. Another good one is the Iron Will Single Bevel, with bleeders and also the Kayuga Gen 2 Pilot Cut. I prefer the single bevels that have bleeders.

For whitetail hunting from treestands and from the ground would you choose these or the new Crimson Talon Cleaver? I shoot a Mathews Halon 29.5" at 70#.. I'm shooting Vector HMR arrows with either 100-125 or 150 grain broad head. I'm going to see which shoots best for me out of these two heads I'm asking about. I know there are better and more expensive heads available but both these brands seem good and in my price range. Also what is the blade angle on these? I'm not sure I may of missed it in the video. Thanks Chad. I am not sure of the bevel angle of the Kudus...been a while since I tested them. Between those and the Cleaver, I'd probably go with the Kudu Contour Plus for whitetail as it has a wider cut and a bleeder. But the Cleaver is coming out in a shorter profile, wider version soon.
Is it just my bow shop or has archery equipment gone up in price? Easton arrows are $8 and change and these kudu with bleeder went up at least $10. Is that normal or just inflation. A 3 pack of kudu is $49.99
Hey John, I can't get these to fly with my field tips or my Magnus Black Hornets. They fly all over, especially in any kind of wind. Any tips on getting these to fly better? I am shooting a Mathews Halon 5 at 75Lbs with a draw length of 29". I am shooting a 300 spine VAP XTORSION with a 125grn head at 275fps... maybe I should try a four vane set up as apose to three vane. 🤷♂️
That's unfortunate. Broadhead flight can be frustrating. In my testing, I do not broadhead tune at all. I just screw on the head and shoot it at 70 yards. Almost every fixed blade head flies well for me. But, my bow is very well tuned--my bare shafts and vaned shafts hit the same at 20 yds. And my vanes are helical, which helps in flight. And my arrows have a 20% FOC, which also helps in flight. And my form is decent. All those are factors. If you bare shaft tune your bow and use helical vanes, you should be fine.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures it is rather frustrating as 90% of the broadheads I have tried hit with my field points out past my hunting range. I was thinking I might try a 4 vane set up to help stabilize the Kudu heads... I am at a loss... LOL, probably my form!
Why not shoot in in bricks? I shot the steel buckle on my matrix target broke the buckle and there was absolutely no damage to this head still spun perfect
Hello, how about Kudu contour plus vs quad exodus for elk? With the bleeder veins on the Kudu would that make the wound channel a lot bigger than the Quad.? Both fly really well for me I'm deciding between the Kudu contour plus vs Exodus 125g, Easton axis 340 5mm, 27.25 with Iron will 30g collars, 458 total arrow weight. Mathews Halon 28.5" draw at 69lbs.
They're both really good. But the Exodus has a slightly greater cutting diameter in the 125 gr model. I prefer a wider hole, even over more tissue cut, cause there is a better chance for more bloodletting. And it will do better on a hard impact shot. The Kudu is more apt to have tip rollover with it's narrow profile. But both are very good choices.
I’m from Georgia I shot a 5x5 bull last year in Colorado with the kudu 150 grain at 46 yards the bull flinched and ran 15 yards turned and bugled with blood pumping out both sides he fell right there. Arrow was lodged in the mountain behind him I have since taken numerous hogs and deer with zero problems. I love this head and am headed back to Colorado agin next month to shoot through another bull.
I think 6 is a good start. But it all depends on what you're hunting and where you're hunting and how you're hunting...cause that affects how many shots you may take and how difficult it is to find your arrow and how much damage there may be to the broadhead.

That's a good question. I'd go with a Kudu Contour, or Iron Will.

I really wish kudupoint would create an easy sharpening system for these heads. It’s a pain to sharpen the contour with a diamond rod.

Yeah, that is the drawback of a curved blade like this. StaySharp makes a great tool that can make it easier.

Yeah, everything has gone up...cause there are better materials used in many cases and cause people are willing to pay those prices.
Can you test out the G5 montec m3 fixed blade heads?

Have you done any reviews on the grim reaper whitetail special?
I've not. I have taken a few turkeys with them though. I've tested a few other GRs and hopefully will be testing more in the weeks ahead.

For that year, I was not shooting into concrete. I often change my regimen each year. In 2022 I've been shooting into cinder blocks again.

Good question. They're all great heads, honestly. But hard to beat the Exodus and the Black Hornet is a close second to that.
