In my testing it appears to not like 5GHz wifi very much. The auto connect on 5GHz is shotty at best. 2.4GHz has been working flawlessly, I was able to do a live stream 2 floors away from the access point no problem. The Zato has potential but needs a massive firmware update!

Hit every nail on the head! Amazing and fun review while being completely honest. Mine has been a great screen and portable recorder but I really want that PiP support so I can game on the road without a yolobox / obs machine. Atomos Cloud was also late to launch, they pushed back the countdown timer on the site by 12 hours even when I had the device in hand and was anxious to try it out. I'm not a previous Atomos owner so I'll take your word for it that they can update their products to live up to their potential, it's just crazy that the marketing seems so polished and ready to ship.

I have been using it as a HDMI recording passthrough for easy screencaptures, works fine for that but just wish they hadn't advertised it as something else. This is the most exciting live stream product I've seen in years. The possibilities with Atomos Cloud Studio live production (launching in October supposedly) are pretty astounding. This coming from someone who has owned over half a dozen live stream encoders (LiveU, Teradek, and others). Atomos has a tendency to not have things sorted out when it ships (I was an early adopter of Atomos X). But it's an awesome monitor in the meantime also and a pretty good price for just that. Personally, I'm hoping they eventually add HEVC and SRT capabilities in the Cloud Studio. Hopefully Atomos lives up to the promise this product has.

As I have bought it, I can only say that it is not finished yet from a software perspectve. Bugs over bugs. I ordered a yolobox-pro - even it is more expensive - it is very promising and much more what I would have expected.

Hey there, sorry for the late reply, hope you got it figured out. I don't have much experience with the connect unfortunately. The only way I get lucky with Atomos when something starts acting funny is to update it all, which is also kind of a pain with all the ssd transferring process. Good luck man!

Are you able to record audio and video in sync with your ZATO? The unit I purchased had the audio drift out of sync quite quickly. Support was responsive and asked me to ship them the unit for repair or replacement, so I shipped it back and received a replacement a couple weeks later. The replacement has the same problem. Wondering if you are having better success with recording.

Over more time the sync gets worse and worse. In this test recording (and whoa, the audio, not sure what's up with that) the sync drifts to be about 1.5 seconds off over three minutes: ua-cam.com/video/Z3wQkngEop4/v-deo.html

Same problems with the Shogun connect, poor connectivity via wireless, something to mention I tried to connect my camera rig setup with a ninja V output hdmi to the ZATO and it says not compatible audio. C'mon guys you are the same company your products should be compatible ecosystem.

Hopefully these few months will give atomos the time to work out the bugs 🤞 i have been using it at its most basic form for hdmi screencaps, had to take a break on trying to get it streaming, definitely hit a wall with it. Hello again, Just another comment on this one: It is not working with my device, whatever I do. Their support sent me some default links to their setup manuals, I factory reset my device, I always have to login to my account to deactivate and activate my stream, otherwise ZATO will not find it and I can see no data leaving my router at all. To be honest, this is the greatest disappointment I had with all video devices I own especially from support side. Waiting days and getting links to default setup. That is poor
I know what you mean Holger, I feel the same way. Atomos is usually so solid, was very surprised at this poor release. I spent 2 weeks messing with this thing also, a lot of wasted time. Hope they make it up to us all somehow. Good luck with yours over there!
Interesting and frustrating you’ve both run into this. I’m my limited testing, I streamed to UA-cam over wifi without incident. I wonder if the recording quality also affects the streaming bitrate-this is how the ATEM Minis work-since there’s only one encoder, and if lowering quality might help accommodate wifi network speed/packet loss/etc issues?

Hey sorry JTR for the delay. I tried another crack at streaming on the Zato with its new update, and still got flustered. Not recommended for a streaming solution but a great little screencapture device that lets you record on SD cards. I have been using it for that 🤷♂️ it's a bummer though, will keep messing with it and get this update uploaded soon. Thanks for checking out the vid!

We should have some tools to fix that from Atomos Studio now, I will let you know when I get to play with it. hey there JTR, been meaning to an update on this little guy. I have actually been using it a lot for live streaming, it's an easy way to get hdmi into OBS, and also using it to record easy screencaptures, does good as a simple HDMI passthrough to a projector. looks like they have dropped the price and if you use it for the basics, its solid. all that streaming and wifi nonsense is where it gets tricky.
