That is exactly the reason my coaches always stressed to hustle no matter what, when I played little league ball. The problem is that so many players don't hustle and like to pimp out home runs and the coaches don't do much about it. They need to start taking the stance of benching players that do this crap. I'm sure there are other players ready to take their position that will hustle on every play.

I remember Candelario , the Cubs didn't need him , TWICE ! No matter how good or bad their season's going they always come back to bite the Cubs in the ass . And as far as Amaya goes , aside from his impotent bat he's a bad defensive catcher . Can't throw out runners (on one knee ) passed balls , catchers interference . The guy needed to spend this season in Iowa to work these things out , but Hoyer is just so smart he figured Amaya could learn everything on the job up here . Talk about screwing with the kids confidence !

I can care less about Amaya but I honestly think that he thought the ball was going foul and that’s why he held on to the bat which is still no excuse bc we’re all taught to run out everything but since he has at least shown good character he deserves the benefit of doubt. He also deserves to be sent down still bc of his performance on the field.

He may not have wanted to hit Stephenson, but his frustrations (not the focus on the game) were intentional. If his command is so bad that it hits a batter in the head after a HR then the ejection is valid. Player safety is important. He needs to get his act together.

Amaya can go. So can Happ and Hoerner and Swanson and I wouldn't miss any of them.

a bounce like that off the bag from a slow roller is incredibly unlikely, and just a couple games ago amaya hustled hard for a bunt single, which he's done a few times now (another time against the dbacks a week prior). today just felt like one of those games where nothing was going the cubs' way, including so many near-homers, and busch's poor throw that missed a double-play opportunity and led to a 2-run bomb. amaya, for all his occasional mishaps behind the plate, has been one of the hottest cubs hitters since his mini-break to change his approach, and he calls games very well behind the plate, given the praise hendricks has had for him. ballesteros needs time to develop-i saw on mlb's prospect rankings that he's projected to be mlb-ready only by 2026. of course they can rush him, but he may be under-developed.

This is exactly why I never played baseball ⚾️…I stuck to a sport, basketball 🏀, where 90+ mph balls aren’t being thrown around your head, or face. I was a chicken when it came to standing in the batter’s box. I never liked ball’s being thrown at my head or face. I didn’t mind my legs or upper arm, but not my head or face.

Today vs. years back, what these players make (salary), clouds the judgement of most managers. In Milwaukee last season, Willy Adames did plenty of loafing to 1st base and was never removed in the same game or benched the next game. It's one of the things that irked the fans of Milwaukee. Others players do the same, they are yanked or benched on the same team. Fans picked up on this right away. I don't believing in purpose pitches and I really don't believe in hitters showing up pitchers no matter what. That's the old school in me...

Did Counsell trade for this guy. Why do people think he makes decisions? He's gotta use players his front office gives him... what else is he gonna do? He's not in Milwaukee anymore where they gave him all star starting pitchers, relief pitchers AND closers. That's an easy job. Then again, Milwaukee does have a winning window right now, of course they're gonna have better talent for a manager to use over someone who started a major rebuild within the last 3 years...who btw was supposed to be a World Series team this season it sounds like, but just don't ask me how.

Way to much money to be in last place. I mean the Pirates and Cardinals and Reds too? are ahead of us??!! How is this even possible??
