8 years later and Paul Feig is still talking about his God awful movie.
He was pretty salty that his movie wasn't recently included in a box set, so they had to put in a special download code JUST because he thinks his movie is on par with the other ones.
It ruined his career such as it was. I remember Dan Ackroyd saying, "He will not be allowed on the Sony lot"

That might be PART of it, but you have to remember that he went to bat for them with his movie, and then they left him high and dry for almost 10 years now. He's not been in anything culturally relevant since then. What he is doing now, is signaling that he is one of "them" to get high-paying jobs again.

Ghostbusters 2016's failure was really their movie version of January 6: they're never going to shut up about it, 10 years from now we'll still hear them whining about it.
NOTHING to do with an uninspired idea for trying to remake a classic. Nothing to do with four performers trying to all be Bill Murry at the same time. NOTHING to do with poor scripting, clumsy timing, getting out front of weak perceptions and blaming the audience "It WASN'T made for you!" Then being surprised the audience didn't pay...or go.
It wasn't "weak perception", it was ACTUALLY what people saw in the trailers. It was the director and some of the cast that were GASLIGHTING people about what the movie was like. THAT is why the backlash happened - it was spiteful man-hating trash, further complicated by a director that by his own admission left the "talent" to run wild with their "performances" and from rumors back then it seemed he somewhat broke down and cried during the making of the movie - even HE saw how bad the whole thing was turning out to be during the course of filming. Then he turned around and tried to BS people into just accepting it for the win he claimed it was. Both the people who were burned by thinking it was going to a good, fun time AND the people who were ticked off by the anti-male nastiness spread out over the entire runtime had a COMBINED adverse effect to having wasted their hard-earned cash on such nonsense, and within a franchise they deeply loved.
How can it be blamed on trump supporters? Nobody on either side went to see it 🙄

If it was the Trump supporters' fault, then why didn't Hillary supporters save the movie. If there are more Hillary supporters than Trump supporters, wouldn't the movie have made more. People dont have to go see a movie because it has a woman lead or is diverse. People choose to spend their money on things that they love or what they want. Opening up a business with all female and / or diverse employees doesn't mean you will make money. Any product that gets redone or rebooted needs to focus on getting the people that loved the original because they are the ones that you can guarantee will want to see the movie. After you please the fans, you can try to get new people wanting to go see it. If the business can't bring in customers, it will fail.

In any other age an all female team investigating ghosts would of been fine. The story would have been written better and performed by more talented actresses and a far better director that Feig.
