The add 4 on 5 chords is more frequent then in the past, but it isn't anything that couldn't have been more popular, I think it's just a sensibilities thing. In pop, the add 4 is often the melody note. But Chick and some neo-soul cats will have it as part of a voicing. Sus4 has been a common sub for dominate chords for a while, but the dominant 7 add 4 that really has the 3rd a nd 4th both being played together is less common. As someone who straddles pop, jazz, and neo-soul, you would be a good person to do a somewhat comprehensive "add 4" video lesson.
If you like Charlie Puth, you should do an analysis on Fujii Kaze's music. He melds jazz, old school and modern pop meticulously. Also he has some serious piano and vocal chops too. I don't think he has perfect pitch though.
Nice! I think another thing that makes Charlie's choruses stand out are his larger interval jumps in the melody. He's mentioned trying to toe the line between being catchy and being "un-singable". That's why I think your chorus #2 works better.
Question: What's the difference between something like A min 11 and G add 4? Aren't you adding the fourth scale degree to both chords? However, how come we consider one to be the 11th whereas simply the 4th for the other chord? Hope my question makes sense and there isn't anything I'm overlooking -friendly music theory nerd
add 4 is usually used when there is no 7th. With an Am11 (A C E G B D), it has the 7th, 9th and 11th. Gadd4 (G B D C) is just the triad with the 4th added. Hope this helps!
Hi Jeff, hope you are well. I am an intermediate classical piano student, however I opted for the genre, as I have other goals. My doubt is about the REAL BOOK by HAL LEONARD standards, I managed to rescue references and I have seen bad and good comments. On the contrary, at Berklee College, first semester of jazz piano, they ask the students for the REAL BOOK SIXTH EDITION. Is it legitimate and does it make sense to buy the REAL BOOK SIXTH EDITION?

Great work Jeff, the second version is a hit, the speed contributed a bit, nice performance, good humour
Sitting here jamming along to option 2 🔥🔥
I think that has reinspired me to create.. Hearing your own '2nd' version & wanting to hear more.. Music is so simple once you understand it
love this, you really break down the melodies in a useful way !
Great video Jeff! Out of interest do you think you'll ever return to your loop of the day analysis? loved em
Good to see you back brother!

I like the first variant for its straight beginnings morphing into syncopations all over.

The first one definitely sounds better to my ears. I have a strong affinity for very lyrical sounding melodies
Puthisms!
"Puthy"
the second one sounds more like charlie puth
Schmaltzy, but interesting.
hate to pause this song? Now I lost you J
So much knowledge to make something that sounds so poor... sad times.
I really wish he would've picked a different song but the principles apply. Chew the meat, spit out the bones
not an a)Abercrombie model or b) a pop singer doesn't lead to a #1 single but he got the idea in about 90 seconds I'd imagine.
Interesting... What would be an example of something that doesn't sound so poor? Pls
Let’s have a listen to your music.
@@kebablover1405 How is that relevant?
the TANANANANA NA NA was a better version than the PAP PAP PAP TADADADADA DADA version... just sayin'
You hate to pause it? It sounded like a dying mouse.
I just can't stand the Autotune.
who's charlie puth?
