I have chosen Madeira to retire. I love the island, the people and the weather is simply perfect. I am closing on my condo in Canico with sea views next months.
Almada is a good option if you want the benefits of living in Lisboa but without the costs, its just on the other side of the river, all you need is to cross the bridge or the ferry and its even closer to the beaches at Costa da Caparica.

One mistake. Madeira has a subtropical, stable and predictable weather, unlike Azores. Also, you have the third or fourth (not sure) largest airport and the BEAUTIFUL sandy island of Porto Santo 15 min by plane or 2h by ferry
It's not because Madeira is an island that it doesn't have white sandy beaches, it's because it's a volcanic island. But if people want white sandy beaches in the Madeira archipelago, they can go to Porto Santo.
I lived for 3 years on Madeira. There are a few, yes. Not really worth mentioning, but yes, there is sand to be found. Would not call it worth visiting for the beaches though ;). @@colatudoYTube

Braga is surranded by mountains, nearby braga is the beautifull "Parque nacional da Peneda Gerês ", and if you want, you can go to Spain to enjoy the big asturias mountains. Another 2 cities in mountains are Covilhã and Guarda, both are close to Serra da Estrela, the biggest mountain in mainland Portugal, this 2 cities are calm and slow pace, smaller cities than Braga, they are a bit isolated far from airports and beach, wich you could prefer
The city of Guarda in the heart of Portugal, near the highest continental peak, Torre - Serra da Estrela (mountain chain). There's also a lot of small cities / towns around Guarda, where you can see typical rural life in Portugal, a lot of mountains and a lot of hidden gemns. "Near" Guarda there's also Covilhã, with a University. About Guarda it has trains to Lisbon but it doesn´t have to Porto for some reason... A bit up north there's many small cities like Vila Real, Régua, and Amarante, already along the Douro river valley region. Braga is quite beautiful, though not exactly in a mountanous region, it's close to though to Gerês. And if you go to Gerês please visit fully.... there are places there. For me the most beautiful city is Viana do Castelo. My only issue with it, is that it doesn´t have a University / academic life. But it's close to the ocean and the Gerês mountains.
While you're talking about Setúbal you show an image at 0:31 that looks interesting but is definitely not Setúbal. What is that place? It is mistakenly shown again at 0:57. (Comment 10 minutes later: I think that is Porto Covo, which is 140 km from Setúbal...)

Madam Yulia, Which city in Portugal is best for international graduate students and has a high-quality English-taught universities? And how about finding a job after masters for foreigners?
Either Coimbra, Porto or Lisbon. We all have international programs in our universities, but in terms of the best international, I would bet Lisbon. Good luck!
Honestly, if you want a university in English teaching, then why not choose a English speaking country instead of Portugal? Also, there’s no job opportunities in Portugal, and the salary is very low. Many Portuguese young people left Portugal and went to other European countries to find a job.
@@annielivesineurope2234 I understand your point of view, but let’s not forget English is the international language of the world, so it is not only spoken (with quality) in English speaking countries… Most people come here for the weather, and the general atmosphere of good people and good food in Portugal, it really is a unique and amazingly beautiful country to live. So why not? Every single country has it’s own flaws, there’s absolutely no perfect place on this earth for our human eye, and that’s ok… Each one of us can choose what fits best with their personality, and maybe Portugal is just the right fit for some ☺️ I hope you enjoyed your time visiting 🇵🇹❤️ Have a lovely Sunday ❣️

why tho? people are searching for a better place for themselves. they wanna see the world and experience life in other countries. you only have one life, why spend it in one place? if you really love that place, sure. but what if you don’t? sounds like a torture to me 👀
Yes that's beauty. Salazar, the portuguese that was spoiling the world elites plans had a moto: God, mother land & family. I believe its part of the elite agenda, they set the trends. One thing I can tell is that foreigners wont fight for or to maintain the "original" culture, traditions and heritage of a country. And then with such a mix of people, its hard to get them all together to fight for a common cause.
@anonymousfella372 It's the ultimate sign of restlessness, this inability or unwillingness to put down roots. But look closely and you'll find the shifting of wealth and poverty that goes along with globalisation and the upcoming one-world-government.
Somehow the review too sketchy. Sorry, but don’t see any added value. Many places are very touristic and seasonal. It’s important, if the place you live is dead for 7-8 months. For example, Faro is a place with an airport, but most tourist go further to Albufeira, etc. most people in Portimão are locals. So it’s still alive in winter. But the city has no history or charm. Better choice would be Lagos. For a good comparison you would need to have more details and maybe more figures, not just population numbers.
I'm glad that you left out the really nice cities to live in here because we, the locals, don't want our places invaded and spoiled by wealthy foreign buyers who will only make property and rent prices go up, making our lives even harder than they are now.
