Great video! Very cool. Love it! I agree with you, the black and white episodes are the best. But about a year ago I bought season 7 and 8 because they were cheap. Man, there are some good episodes in there. One of my favorites is S8.E15 Howards New Life, where Howard quits his job and moves to a tropical island. S8.E16 Goober the Executive is another great one. Don Knotts in S8.E21 Barney Hosts a Summit Meeting. Etc etc.
Love Andy, still watch till this day. Love nostalgic towns and places. Believe the Bible account, too. Pilot Mountain to rough for me. Love Mayberry, hope to visit. TY😊
Maranatha! I am Toronto Canada. My wife and I enjoyed this video . We watched the whole thing on a peaceful Easter weekend morning (He is risen). We enjoyed the excellent communication skills by both you and your lovely wife. We both have fond memories of the TV show. We now plan on making side tour on our way to Florida when the pandemic ends. God Bless both of you.
Thank you for watching, and for your very kind words. I hope you get to make a stop in Mayberry, and I believe you will love it there. We are fans of the show, as well. I have all of the black and white ones on DVD, and I watch them repeatedly. And yes, He is risen!
I love this video so much! Visiting this town has been on my bucket list for years! My husband is a huge fan of the show and has 100's of episodes recorded. Hopefully we can visit soon!🤗
What a wonderful video.I’m so glad I came across it. I loved Andy of Mayberry, still watch it today. It never gets old. Those were great times, too bad we can’t turn the clock back. Thanks for sharing this with us. Take care😊
Absolutely, and glad you enjoyed it. We decided when we started this channel, that we were going to record our fun times, but that we were also going to put Him first. God's been good to us.
We watch Addy Griffin every night 8 and 8:30. Watched it all my life pretty much i was 8 when it started watching it in 1960.I never get tired of it. I sent Betty Lynn a Birthday card this year, because it was the first year i had the address. Thanks for sharing this video.
It truly is a lovely place to visit. We are blessed to not live but about an hour and a half away from it. Thank you so much for watching, and for your kind words.
What a delightful video! Gotta love Nostalgia! Will have to visit this place! I always wondered if there was an "andy griffith" museum or city . Now I know.
My father's family is from this area, and my cousin and her husband Charlie Dowell ran the Snappy Lunch. Now her son-in-law runs it. AND you caught my cousin Randy playing the banjo with his group!Just great!
I remember Charlie. He was always there every time we ate at the Snappy Lunch, until he passed. So neat, that you saw your cousin in our video. Thanks for watching and letting us know!
Great video, thanks for sharing your experience! I’m a fan of the show, and actually live near Mt. Airy. Its where we “went to town” on Saturday when I was growing up. Russell Hyatt was a barber in the City Barber Shop next to Snappy’s, and cut my hair as a teenager. It was Russell that first started displaying Andy Griffith memorabilia in the barber shop. About three months later the trend went through town like a whirlwind, and everyone picked up on it. It revived the town from its loss of textile manufacturing, and breathed in a new life of tourism. No one is actually sure where Andy came up with the town name Mayberry for his show. Some think it may be a stretch of the name Mabry, which is an old mill house, now a tourist attraction itself, located on the Blue Ridge Parkway. And close by it is a stream called Mayberry Creek. And by the way, the trail on Pilot Mountain is pronounced Jo-me-oh-kee.
Thanks for the information. That is very interesting. We have both been fans of the show for years, and are really looking forward to coming back next year for Mayberry Days.
I Benz watch Andy Griffith show. My favorite. However, I did not know Andy really lived in Mayberry, or should I say Mt Airey. I really enjoyed watching your video. I learned a lot that i did not know about the real-life characters on that show. It takes me away from the mess that is on TV today. I enjoy that show very much. Not good with trivia. Barnie says, Juanita, Juanita, Juanita.😂
Yes, that's where he was born and grew up. When he died, he was living down on the coast of North Carolina. But his childhood home is available to stay in. Thanks for watching!
I think we all recognize that tune. The tv shows like this was back when you could watch tv and not be offended or shocked. Haha , I like both of the candy you mentioned. I like the photos y'all took. You can't beat the price on the sandwiches. Some of my favorite videos were with the Darlings, they were so funny. I bet this town stays pretty busy because of the show. That is a great view on Pilot Mountain, very interesting rock formations. Very nice video.
It is our favorite show of all time. We have all of the black and white episodes on DVD, which are the best ones, in my opinion. Once Barney left, it was never the same. We are blessed to only live 1 1/2 hours away from there, but I still don't get up there as much as I'd like. You are correct...TV shows back then, were FAR better than anything today. Back then, a show could be funny, and be clean, as well. Some producers today, don't understand that concept. The town is very busy on Mayberry Days, which I think is in September.
We've now been to Mount Airy twice and had a fantastic time. The maddening thing was that I'd planned to get a haircut and eat at Snappy Lunch, but both closed early. I hiked around Pilot Mountian twice, which was a fantastic one mile hike. I could see our RV park fromthe trail!
They look like melted buildings, which is a fascinating rabbit hole, and supposedly mentioned in the bible. This place is gorgeous. Yes, I'd be holding the dogs for sure!! Thanks for this, I wanna go, and I am the same about mnt laurel and rhododendron:) awe, Pierre looked SO adorable.
Pierre was my best friend. We had him for 6 years and 4 months, before he left us. They estimated him to be 15 years old. We don't know for sure. I've never had a dog that thought so much of me, and bonded with me so closely.
Just watching this and someone may have commented already but I believe Rance drove the bus when Barney’s cousin Virgil came to town. Also I’m a new follower and love all your videos ❤
Thank you for watching, and letting us know that you enjoy our videos. We appreciate all of our subscribers. Yes, you are correct about that. I don't know if anyone else mentioned it in the comments or not, but I remember seeing that he was the bus driver in that episode.
There are SO many quotes from this show but ome of my favorites comes from the episode where Aunt Bea buys that miracle elixir that is basically alcohol and when they find it, Barney says "Where there's smoke, there's firewater." How he said it made it funnier.
@@NCMemoryMakers my hands-down favorite episode is Man in a Hurry. Such a life lesson and I love how Andy and Barney keep saying they're gonna go for a pop but neither one makes a move; they just continue to sit.
My cousin bought the Mayberry motorcycle with side car in Arizona in the 90's. I have no idea if he still has it. I never got to see it, but my brother stored it for him til my cousin could get it moved to Amarillo, Texas. I did see pictures of it back then. This cousin loves Harleys, rode back then all over the country, and he must have liked Mayberry. Mmmm I need to check on that.
Well we had a Easter conversation the day after Easter and several of us remembered the worse candy ever. In the 60's ( I don't know if they made it through the 70's) there was a candy easter egg. They were beautiful to look at I suppose. Bright colors..especially the turquoise blue green one about half or two thirds the size of a real egg. The outside of the colored part was pure hardened icing type shell. The inside was the most sickening sweet gooey, but not marshmallow fondant type of white "stuff". One egg was enough sugar for a year. THAT was one if the worse candies ever! Remember that? They were however fun to decorate with and hide.
On the Rance Howard trivia question: on the episode where Andy and Helen were on a getaway and Andy had to pay a fine for fishing without a license; Barney was convinced that they were eloping and had planned a party with Aunt Bea and Thelma Lou, inviting many in the town to go in on paying for the redoing of Andy's bedroom that would be more suitable for a new bride; Rance was in the group for the party at Andy's house. He remarked "Barney Fife, how could you!"
Enjoyed your day in Mayberry! I like the black and white episodes more. We just started watching the color episodes recently…just not the same show without Barney.
Yes, the black and white episodes are far better, and much more funny! Barney and Andy together, made the show what it was. Once Barney left, it went downhill, like you said. We are going back to Mayberry this weekend.
Awesome experience, my wife and spent a few days at the same hotel back in 2018. Very cool time and Extremely laid back people and times. Loved the whole experience ❤😊
We agree. Nothing like a day in Mayberry, and staying at the Mayberry Motor Inn. We are looking forward to doing it again. Glad you had a great experience, as well.
