You need to get the inferno. It’s Engl’s sleeper amp. It’s what I wanted the fire ball to always have and be. Larger sweep on the treble and presence, same amount of gain, more clarity and separate eq for the clean. The” tone” button is so good for two different beasts without having to touch the shared eq. They did this amp correctly.
@@TONEWARSgearshow indeed, you and Kari are the host obviously but it's everyone as a whole that makes it so special, you guys interacting with all the viewers makes it feel like a big family.
Hello, Is it possible for you to produce a battle between ENGL Black e651 Artist Edition vs EVH 5150iii El34? They are both with EL34, I'm curious to hear/listen this war. If you have an ENGL retro tube in comparison that should be great too. Thanks a lot
You are the best for engl stuff man everytime I'm searching for engl stuff you pop up. You should have an endorsement. Artist = creamier and more traditional Savage = more focussed modern and crushing
Hey Jarrod Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I finally ratcheted open my wallet and made up my mind about what amp to get, thanks to you and Ola. Went with the 120 Mark II along with their 2x12 Pro cab. Got them used and saved a few bucks. Also got the FM-3. I'm happier than a pig in shit! Thought I remember you saying that you could not change channels on the amp with the FM-3, maybe I'm wrong. You can change the channels with the FM-3 if you use midi and create a preset. Thanks for all what you do, you are one big bucket of knowledge, thanks for spreading it around!
Hey Mark, Merry Christmas to you as well. Congratulations on your purchase!! You'll love the Savage!! What a beast. Anything with MIDI will control the Savage. You're gonna have one really sweet rig. I'm happy for you. Cheers
I think the reason for the big difference here is that the savage has the contour on, which scoops it, plus is dialed lower in the mids as well. The artist has the shape on as well... But, in my blackmore, which is pretty similar, the contour/shape boost the mids. I think the artist is closer to the crunch ii channel of the savage, or maybe even crunch i, if you count in the contour behavior. Btw, did you boost the artist? Great tones from both amps.
Amazing timing it is that you just posted this comparison. I have had the Engl Artist Edition for the past 6 days up against my Peavey and while there are good things about the Artist Edition, I think that it is clearly more of an amp for hard rock and classic metal as opposed to the evolved 90s metal amp stemming from the Soldano SLO/5150. I decided to keep my Peavey and send the Engl back despite the Peavey's shortcomings and some of the good things about the Engl. The Savage and Fireball, however, would be a different proposition for me personally.
My pleasure! Thanks for commenting. Engl amps definitely have their own thing going on. Some of them have a very specific sound. Some of them work for a few genres and some of them work for any genre. I totally get where you're coming from.
I love this video! Killer tones, killer playing! I have been an Engl man since the mid 90's.
These amps are champs. But I'm also SO hoping that Engl is working on a new Special Edition mk2!
They are😉

Both sound killer!
See you guys tomorrow! The running back and forth is done! Sounds awesome as always.
Thank you! Looking forward to hanging with you and everyone else tomorrow

Artist for me here. Those have more of a hot rodded Marshall sound than your typical Engl. Really sounds present and full.
Artist fan here! I did an A/B with à Fireball today. The fireball was colder. Artist sounded like a modded Marshall almost Mesa-like.
@@ronnymilianowicz5228I like both styles. Both are definitely in my wheelhouse, now just to buy them😂
I owns there preamp and love the Tight low end and the overall Engl type of sounds 🤩
Which preamp model?
Nice work! They sound surprisingly different
Thank you. And thanks for bringing your Artist Edition over. What a great amp!! It was a pleasure playing through it.
Damn! That savage is heavy af! Great vid!!

Thanks for commenting. I would love to do that shoot out if I can get my hands on that amplifier.
@@TONEWARSgearshow awesome! Exiting!
I suppose that the ENGL artist edition is the same as the one of this video but with black design...
Artist édition for me
Artist or Fireball? Both on used market here now for a good Price.
Good question. I think I would go with the fireball
@@TONEWARSgearshow Your vids are great. Engl artist edition or EVH 5150 llls el34 100 watt?
@@josephrusso7069
I have the Artist and the normal EVH lll and I always like the Engl more.

Cool video man! Can you please do a shootout between the EVH 5150 50w stealth and the Engl Savage?
Your playing is fiah!!!!! \m/

Great tones from both amps.
They were both boosted with the precision drive
Good point on the contour. I think you can get the Savage to sound exactly like the Artist if you want
The contour on the mk2 is a mid boost, not a mid scoop. It works as the opposite of the mk1

It would be much better without all the effects.
