- A wonderful walk
Walkerburn a beautiful village in the Scottish borders which a unique Victorian and early 20th century past.
A hydroelectric power station was built to power a mill, water was pumped up from the river Tweed and then pasted back down through a 9" pipe via gravity to create power for the big mill on the tweed
Walkerburn had the highest casualty rate during the Great War as a proportion of its population of any community in Scotland. ( I said England in the vid I apologise )
A great walk in the Scottish Borders which I highly recommend.

N-joy
hi the little tower on the hill is the pumping station from the river up to the reservoir .
Thank You for that info Peter , do you think there’s a room or a tunnel below ?
I love the way your dogs behave on the bus, they are so well-behaved! They must have known they were off on a lovely walk up the hills through the forest. The views are just fantastic! Once again a great video! Thank you so much for taking us with you, Ian.
Thank you. Dogs are sound asleep as I type this , was a great afternoon I could gladly spend a few days there in the warmer weather ,
Hi Saw you on Yankees channel. Absolutely beautiful, definitely was an enchanted forest! Your dogs are also beautiful! Thanks for showing us around! ATB Amy
Thank you Amy
Next time up, clap your hands. The acoustics in the reservoir are amazing! Cheers, great walk, great vid.
Yes the drones sound reflected around would love to ride my cycle up there in the summer , thank you for stopping by the channel
Yet another well edited great film Ian. I love the beauty of the Borders area.
Thank you Nivek
The stone tower on the hill is probably the shaft of a secret world war 2 nuclear bunker, the abandoned reservoir was likely the bunkers water supply. Lots of trees round about providing great cover from aerial exposure.
Lol you have a vivid imagination the res was a hydropower station for a mill in the town, cheers for the suggestion of a bunker though there’s plenty of them undiscovered around the borders maybe one day I’ll find one. . Cheers Karl
Delightful views of the hills. The path through the forest was out of a fairy tale! Would not have been surprised to meet Hansel & Gretel or Little Red Riding Hood. Safe Travels.
Thank you was an awesome afternoon an epic walk. Best regards Ian
Hey I subbed you from Yankees video. Loved the views and the way you put your video together to tell your story. The views are breath taking.
Thank you Yankees a great youtuber
Awesome.. Maybe if bus fare was a little cheaper, more folks would ride the bus? lol. That forest was amazing. Thanks for the journey and great views. Your new camera looks and sounds like a winner.
I agree the buses should be free to use councils should supply them free instead of feathering there own nests with the public tax purse, cheers WT the g7xii canon is a great little pocket cam was great to get out in the hills after all the bad weather we’ve been having , best wishes man
Just caught your vid on Yankees channel. Love Scotland, must be fun exploring all that history!
Yes the history here in the borderlands of Scotland is amazing fortified towers and castles everywhere, Yankees a great youtuber thank you from coming over best regards Ian
Awesome brother thanks for showing us around!👍and for the history 💪 awesome! Incredible scenery at the end
Was a great adventure, was worth the effort taking the phantom , cheers Yankee best wishes man
Looks like an epic adventure sir! Thanks for bringing us along! Love seeing the world through others' viewpoints :) - Shane
Thanks Shane
Incredible history
Thanks man would be awesome to go back in time and just watch
those paths were all created by offroad motorcycle racing called Enduro. Over many years of racing through all the forests you can see from where you are, that forest was nick named by us as the Rocky. I have many fond memories of racing through those forests while competing in the Scottish Enduro Championships, British also. Other forests around you would be Yair, Elibank, Minch Moor and further off Courhope and Cardrona. I think all motocycle racing has now stopped and the mountain bikers now enjoy what we created.
There was a race the other day up Ladhope hill I saw the track the other day, the tracks over Walkerburn are insane steep and sharp it’s an interesting place I’d like to visit Elibank to the the remains of the castle. Thanks for your thoughts 💭
Nice video of an awesome place mate. I would add though that those paths are in fact mountain bike trails, really not for walking up with your dogs as you could very well cause an accident. There is a pathway up to the reservoir further up round the forest road where you were heading 👍
true, everyone, use the logging road
Very cool!! Yankee sent me over. You have a new subscriber from Canada. Thanks!!
I’d love to visit Canada, Thank you for stopping by
I Macey You’re always welcome Brother!! Doug
Great vibe up there Macey. There sure are some sweeping views - it's big country! Interesting they should put such a holding tank such as that up there. Hydro electricity could work again from these hills. Good going. Mark P.S loved them dogs!
Would have been a massive endeavour to design and build all because a yarn mill needed more power would have made for an interesting swimming pool , Thanks Mark
Now a swimming pool - you're talking my language! Yes big projects back then. Peace1

cool video man... stunning aerial drone shots bro, snow capped mountains look nice, beautiful place.. would love to have a bimble around that pine forest, I bet in the summer it would be really alive with nature around there, all sorts of wild animals, look out for red squirrels (endangered).. also did someone us a tank to get into that reservoir, it looked like it...!!!..lol.. keep up the good work man & B>cool as always........ L8r bro..
yes I thought that smashed right though the wall loads of mountain bike trails some very dangerous I could spend a few days there in the summertime , Thanks Alex best regards man
Just over from Yankee! Great channel my friend :)
Thank you Yankees a great youtuber
AFAIK, That tower is a surge tower which took the 12.5" pipe from the res into a tank and then into a 9" which flowed down the hill to the mills. The tank acted as a buffer when the demand from the mills changed.
And that MTB trail you walked up/down is I think, called Aussie Rules. One of the many superb trails we have here. Not the hardest by a long shot but still keeps you on your toes or sliding down the hill on your a*se if you ride like me.
id love to find more history on it. as I live here now, its local history
very nice video, a lot of graffiti for a remote place, stunning drone views, thanks Ian take care
The place is frequented by MTB cyclists leaving there mark I guess , the hills around walkerburn are stunning , thanks guys
