i think persona 6 should give us a female lead, and just give us an option to play as male thus breaking tradition and maybe what's happening with P3 FEMC wouldn't happen again.. just maybe
Persona is one of the rare RPGs to star 2nd person protagonists. FeMC isn't a gender option in the traditional sense but rather an entirely different character that just so happens to take the male protagonist's role. That means rewriting the near-entirety of the script to account for the gender difference and the social impact (like sexism; the latter being such a crucial part of P5's story is why Royal gave up on making a female protagonist and repurposed it into Kasumi). In order for Persona 6 to have a selectable gender option, the story would need to be written with that in mind. But this would also mean shifting to a 1st person protagonist and I'm not sure they want to jump that shark (wish they'd do, tho).
The whole thing is ironic because the progenitor of the series - SMT: If... - canotically has a female protagonist. You can pick to be either male or female but Atlus DID confirm years later the "canon" choice is female. So the series LITERALLY at inception had a female lead. Yet the only canon female MC we have is Maya from P2.

I suppose it's one thing to add a short separate campaign as DLC and another to remake the whole main storyline to include new characters, S.Links, cutscenes and animations. Expecting them to do the whole FeMC thing was naive in retrospect. Still hurts though.
at one point they said that The Answer wouldnt be in the game, and look where we are now. its only a matter of time before they end up adding FeMC anyways
The producer or the director in a interview that they said that they wanted to, but they don't have enough resources to add it into the game and that it would require them to do a lot for that one. They also have the some of the code in the game for the FEMC already, but it wasn't finished it.
From what i recall they had the Answer in some sort of a limbo state where they would only release it as DLC if P3R peformed well, which it did. FeMC on the other hand would take _waaaaaay_ more efford to implement so they threw out the idea.
But it also makes sense. Even if people really want FemC. They need to realize it's basically a completely different game. (mainly in dialouge and social links). So along side having a set deadline for P3R. It basically would have taken them (probably) like 75% extra development time to change dialouge, add new social links, and new dialouge and modle for the different velvet room attendent
There's a fan project to patch FemC into the game. It actually looks pretty good, but it would only be deployable on PC. Maybe Atlus will take a cue from Falcom and use the fan translation as the basis for an official patch.
Say what you want, but I personally can't shake the feeling off that they kept FemC for a later updated release of P3R for the new Switch coming out 2025. Mark my words!
Also I think one of the main reasons they didn’t put femc is that if they put Yukiko it will give fans so much hope that there is a chance for a persona 4 remake

This is a really cool insight on why they are doing this type of strategy, I didn’t know Atlus were loosing so much money given that since Persona 5 came out in 2017 but they only gain profit during 2022. Part of the Reason is also Sega for trying to milk and charge for unnecessary features
Well, the people behind Persona 3 Reload said that they weren't going to do that again for this game hopefully, so meaning that we may just get updates or DLCs like what we're seeing in Reload.
@@nerodoesart5886 Sounds plausible, but I don't see why atlus devs would say they are gonna re-release the same game with bonus content at the point when they are trying to sell the base version of the game. @@rexthewolf3149 I predict the Persona 3 Re-Release will expand on the co-op attacks from Portable and give the SEES members team up attacks instead. Since Reload lacks team up attacks for a modern Persona game.
Reasonable as the reason may be, I still refuse to accept a full categorical rejection of FeMC being added. Most of the framework is already there with the 3d environments not changing for FeMC's side at all. The only real problem would be voice overing the slightly altered lines of characters saying she instead of he and whatnot. And of course the fully voiced social links but even still most of the shared social links don't really specify a gender with the voiced parts. Atlus/Sega knew that The Answer would guarantee tons of sales even at literally half the price of the game whereas there are tons of people who would just refuse to pay money for "basically the same game but as a girl".

It should be here, if it was here from base even better, and there is code to suggest they did try though cut it short… Alas, I’m now waiting for the full source code extraction to complete for Portable. For the reworking of the anime cutscenes project which should be done soon to finish. For the full 3D map to be added as well via mods, along with custom cutscenes… If Atlus can’t give us what we want, modders will eventually. Wouldn’t be the first time. For reference… I would easily pay $45 USD for Kotone to return as DLC. A steep price considering, but a deserved one considering the vast amounts of voicework needed well after launch. Atlus parent companies mismanagement of money and claiming that they haven't made a profit off of their 3 main franchises after nearly 2 decades is nonsense. Video game Publishers like EA and Activision have been pushing the narrative that if they're not making millions every year they're not worth their time and are considered failures. The fact that all of their games come out finished, polished, and damn good means that they clearly have the time and resources to make them. The season pass is half the price of the game, which is 70 bucks, and has only 1 expansion, some costumes and music from games that they already made. They're lying and putting their greed out on full display.
Funny thing is, Kotone was never canon to begin with, it was much more like a parallel alternative kind-of universe. Her addition to the P3P was great because, otherwise, the game would be a cut-down version, a bad port for some. Since FES was the canon all along, obviously it was the base they should've used for a remake. Also, as the video points out, money, time and also Sega DLC policies certainly didn't helped. Also there's a lot of Atlus games coming from a small team and even P6 might be around the corner. Is that an excuse for not having the option to have FeMC? Absolutely not. I would LOVE seeing her, but the game and DLC must sell really well if we want to consider this a possibility.
A lot of this reminds me of NieR: Replicant and Gestalt. The latter was created at Square USA's insistence (they thought the father would be a more appealing protagonist), but Yoko Taro's always made it clear Replicant was the only canon one. When the remake happened, it was based exclusively on Replicant (helped by Taro having much more sway this time, thanks to NieR: Automata's runaway success). Much as people love FeMC, she's always been the second fiddle amongst Persona protagonists. And unless Atlus gets bigger budgets (unlikely under Sega) or rethinks how they write the protagonists (even less likely), that's not changing anytime soon. In the meantime however, I'm glad to see fans and modders pick up the torch and recreate her themselves.

The thing with FeMC is that Atlus helped with the bleeding a bit with the linked episodes. However, at the same time, having linked episodes for the male SEES members just isn’t as good as social links. FeMC brought necessary world building to P3, as something is just missing when you get limited insight to other characters that you’re supposed to care about. It was hard to actually care about Junpei, Aki, Ken, and Koromaru with the limited insight that you got about them. I’m not against FeMC, I would have strongly preferred the extra world building. I am against how both sides are treating the situation, as both the hostility towards FeMC/her fans and the overreaction about her exclusion are unnecessary.
Atlus didnt need to lie like they did in the announcement video, that DLC footage was way to worked on to be "just starting production". And since P2 theres More than 1 version of the games. Pretty much it was. The devs did say that the only thing they wanted to focus on was the base P3, because they say there was a lot they could do with it now to make it better. They were going to add the FEMC, but they said something about not having the budget and resources to do it, so they left it out. Another thing that might of made atlus choose not to put femc is because of her justice arcana (if you know you know) and while yes you don't have to date everyone in this version of the game it would still be a bit creepy.
No I don't think that would be a factor in deciding if femMC gets to exist. As much as there is a section of the internet likes to talk about that, I don't believe Atlus would be using such impractical reasons.
I get the femc arguments and all, but I agree with the decision. It's a pity some of the content will be lost, but all the major points were written with a male mc, as such alot of plot points just feels weird with a female mc

Well, unfortunately for you. She is confirmed canon by Atlus. She's in Persona Q2. And met with the P4 and P5 gang. Even had a conversation with Makoto Yuki. I think another reason why they won't put her on reload is because they said they had a hard time porting p4g and p3p, p3p in particular. So maybe they want P3p to be still relevant by locking her there.
To people who are mad about the feMC do you really want to wait another 6 years for them to give us the same game, with a newish character with male social links(hope to Christ not ken) new UI and the other additions to reload and have her somehow get the answer. Cause I don’t I’m happy with reload being the way it is the feMC is and always shall be the PSP exclusive experience, because of the hardware limitations and that port while Meh is another way to play it leave her be she can’t come to reload because it will take more time to overhaul the social system again, and all the link episodes were enough for reload atlus while a big company isn’t AAA y’all understand it does lose money, unlike actual AAA companies like Ubisoft who can afford to make something like skull and bones and call it a garbage AAAA game with nothing to do or activison which (applies to both) doesn’t care about the fans anymore and puts out something like $70 DLC with very little new added. Meanwhile atlus is talking it’s time to carefully craft what the fans really wanted the ultimate persona 3 FES experience we need to just be grateful that this even exists at all.
P3 FeMC is irrelevant. Atlus should remake P2 EP. We need a real female protagonist, Maya Amano and not some gender swapped character. Though I only play JRPG if there's a female character and picked FeMC in P3P.
The absolutely insipid attachment to P3P's FeMC for her own sake is one of those things people whine and wail about just because they want it in theory for the novelty rather than because it would actually be good. Her content wasn't even that great or efforted in the first place, just some stuff they threw together in the PSP port's altogether downscaled structure, and will never contribute to the overall canon of the series except as a footnote in things like PQ2 anyway. It's all so tiresome. I'm fine with Atlus having their priorities straight in this regard. The biggest flaw with P3R is that it hasn't been rebalanced at all to account for things like Shift, which has consequently made the game far too easy.

They trained your mother.
Genuinely curious: Why do you say that?
I swear on that bloody door in the sky, I'm gonna tread through hell and high water for femc preservation and awareness.
Portable is on everything now it's the best outcome if we aren't getting her in reload
I suppose it's one thing to add a short separate campaign as DLC and another to remake the whole main storyline to include new characters, S.Links, cutscenes and animations. Expecting them to do the whole FeMC thing was naive in retrospect. Still hurts though.
"The real reason no femc in P3R becsuse they're working on a Persona 4 remake with femc as the new content"
-Hopium 2024
If they made a FemC for P4, that would be a marvelous compromise. As a girl, I’d love that!
at one point they said that The Answer wouldnt be in the game, and look where we are now. its only a matter of time before they end up adding FeMC anyways
where did they say that?
They said it would be persona 3 but considering the answer as the aeon social link was put in I think from the start to tease us
The producer or the director in a interview that they said that they wanted to, but they don't have enough resources to add it into the game and that it would require them to do a lot for that one.
They also have the some of the code in the game for the FEMC already, but it wasn't finished it.
And can you show me where the answer is in the game?
They just need to make a femC full length version of Reload called Persona 3 Reload Pink.
Also I think one of the main reasons they didn’t put femc is that if they put Yukiko it will give fans so much hope that there is a chance for a persona 4 remake
It's sad to realize that atlus only has persona as a successful series. smt is somewhat of a hidden gem until 3 remaster and 5 came out
SMT was consistently successful in Japan (and arguably in the West since original 3), and they also have Etrian Odyssey.
They confirmed P3R is the definitive edition of P3 so there won't be another updated re-release like Royal.

And they succeeded. As far as I'm concerned, Reload is the best way to experience P3
@@connorharnage6697 they succeeded in appeasing sexist pigs and misogynists that dont want FeMC option. and Reload is not the best way to experience P3. not everyone wants to play as a male protagonist, you selfish jerk.

So FeMC will be the protag of Persona 6?
This is a really cool insight on why they are doing this type of strategy, I didn’t know Atlus were loosing so much money given that since Persona 5 came out in 2017 but they only gain profit during 2022. Part of the Reason is also Sega for trying to milk and charge for unnecessary features
She's not coming to Persona 3 Reload, she's coming to Persona 3 Redownload Spend your $70 again if you want FeMC
And we don't even have a velvet room super boss that involves the entire SEES team. Something that Portable provided.
@@heroicgangster9981yeah because reload wasn’t based off of portable.
The worst part is that I am one of those people.

@@L1v1ngDeAdGirl While it sucks, The Answer being DLC makes sense… I mean, FeS already was made as a DLC to the original version in a way, hence The Answer being playable in it from the start. FeMC however… it genuinely feels like they shoved Portable into the market just to appease FeMC wanters, without putting in the effort to actually fix the major problem of Portable… that being the fact it’s a visual novel without any of the anime cutscenes.
Though considering how terrible the conditions are at Sega at the moment, along with the restrictions being placed on them like with the DLC being forced to be like LAD/Yakuza Lost Judgement… this was never gonna be an option… I hope Atlus is paid more soon…
