My ownership experience this week has shown me Multiple problems two of which dangerous Faults and I cannot believe how common they are! Having ridden Japanese bikes for 47 years, and having owned 8 new KTMs, in my experience, KTM is not in the same class as the big 4 in terms of quality control. Not even close. And they put out some goofy engineering / design flops too. I am back to all Japanese now. Life is too short to be pissed about one’s motorcycle.
Your completely right, I’d never buy KTM again and have gone to Honda Africa Twin

I got shot of my old 690 Duke due to electrical issues that nobody wanted to look into.
I've recently bought a Africa Twin 1100, only to read about excessive oil use.
And I thought I'd play it safe with Japanese!
I’ve done 3 million miles on my KTM and I’ve never even changed my tyres … it’s amazing,

@@ontheroadadventure I'm in the market for a new bike, which brought me to your channel. You're right! The KTM looks awesome on paper, but the more research I do, the more problems I discover, like the floating rotor washer issue, and the camshaft wear (usually around 16k) which isn't covered under warranty. Ugh! Transalp with mod's is looking better and better today. Thanks for sharing!
I would take the Transalp or Tenere all day over this, what use is a adventure bike you cant trust on an adventure...

Sorry to learn of your experiences. Hope those will be sorted. Obviously their quality control in this and some some other cases has been completely gone.
Yours is a 2022? By the looks of the dash it seems so. Anyhow, I have had the complete opposite experience.
Got my 2023 890 Adventure delivered April 27th this year. Soon done 16.000 kilometers with it. So time for second service. It's been a hoot. And it's been properly used, on pavement, offroad, gravel & dirt. I've only had one issue, in the form of a software glitch at 10.000. The bike died suddenly while riding in Rally mode. Turned off ignition, on again, started with no issues. But Engine fault symbol came up. Stayed a little while but on third (re) start it went away.
I think a boot routine fixed that glitch. KTM is known to have a few of those in place (maybe because of flimsy programming on earlier models). 6.000 kilometers later, I've not seen or had that problem again.
The head bearing not tightened properly is not only a 890 issue. Had the same on my my previous bike, a 2019 1290 Super Adventure S (which ran 55.000 faultless kilometers). But never considered it dangerous, though could feel it when hitting front brakes.
it's been tightened once on my 2023 890 at, and been fine since. My dealer checks that on every bike they handle, new or old.
So for me, a different experience. I've ridden a few alternatives in this class but can't find anything that even comes close. It's like a mini 1290, same temperament, same craziness, but ditto civilized if ridden civilized. :)
Oh forgot to mention that I've had way more issues with my former beemers than with any of the two KTMs. :) Cheers.
I honestly wish I had the same experience as you, when riding the bike I loved it! I just lost faith and would never take it on a actual adventure sadly. What BMW did you have and what went wrong?
@GrizzlyDaddams When working they are great bikes but if reliability is important to you then I’d pick something like the Yamaha T7 over these
Same here, if my 890R disappeared I would get another one, absolutely great bikes!
No full size bike comes close to working like an 890R does off road, totally stock the 890 works really well. The harder you push it the better it works. 100HP is about right on road.
I did have one new BMW, mine proved the already proven point that BMW is the least reliable bike made, google it, its been that way for years. If mine hadnt been under warranty it would have cost me 4500 minimum, just in parts, to try to fix it's electrical problems.
Then the wiring harness had been installed wrong, and started dying, the rear end developed play at 36,000 miles. I liked the bike, but it was hard to sell, wouldnt dream of another one.
I have 5000 miles on mine. The first month the fuel gauge sensor died. Dealer fixed it quickly. I had an intermittent coolant leak. Upper inlet hose connection was oval shaped and i think not tightened correctly. Ktm has changed the inlet two times. I replaced it this week, no more leaks. It does take a few attempts to start when cold. Now, the bike is so good offroad and on road.2000 miles is offroad . No issues, just max fun. I dont regret the purchase. The hard starts i think are because the fuel map is so lean to meet emission standards. All bikes have quirks and known problems. KTM just gets beat up more.
If the pros are out weighing the cons then keep on riding it bud, see how many miles it’s possible to put on them 👍
There is a whole niche of guys out there doing bad reviews of KTM's, they know it gets clicks and likes. People like bad news more than good news
Local dealer sold 14 890R's in 2021, not a one has come back with problems.
Online they all break, all are shit, KTM is shit. A person can get a very skewed view of things.

I have a DR650 also, Ive put 51,000 miles on it, still riding it.
There was or is a group dedicated to preaching how all 3rd gear sets are going to explode and destroy the engine.
In reality its less than 1% that have that 3rd gear explode. But online its huge.
People WANT to scare you. Any bike can have a problem, and it can be built up to where all those bikes are bad.

Fuel map and people not even knowing to wait until the fuel pump stops priming. Also I really never let mine get below 40 miles left.All about the clicks for negative stuff and poor people who can’t afford one. 😡

2022 890R, 13,000km. Ridden 50% offroad / 50% road. Swapped OEM air filter for a Unifilter foam unit and a Rottweiler Powerplate pre-filter from new.
Problems
1. Dash internal condensation on cold mornings. Dealer wants photos to support claim but my photos never really look as bad as it does in real life.
2. Front tyre deflated in between rides. I've paid the dealer to fit a UHD tube as I ride offroad and can run slightly lower pressures.
3. Swingarm spindle nut was loose. I found it myself fitting an Ian Chappel skid plate.
4. Rattle felt through handlebars offroad under brakes. Steering head spindle loose. I paid the dealer to check the tightening torque after many arguments over it.
5. Front brake fluid reservoir weeping. Its not now: stopped after last service. My previous 690 did it too.
6. Wind buffeting during highway riding. I tried the cheap wind deflectors and they worked for me but I hit a bird on my last trip and the bird knocked it off my bike !
7. I'm apprehensive about the cams. No issues yet. Dealer service due in 2,000km.
I love the bike. It fits me well. I can't believe how well it handles considering its weight.

Judging by other owners reports, it sounds like you've got a good one. Don't feel too bad, the BMW I just sold leaked brake fluid from new. One thing I'd advise you to keep an eye on is the paint and plastics. The fluid destroyed several painted panels and left white marks all over the black plastic parts where the wind blew the brake fluid. I also had to keep the BMW on a battery tender to ensure it would start.
Which BMW did you have trouble with? I got rid of the KTM 10 days only 1500 miles it lasted me from new including PDI and first service. Constant problems

Had my 2023 890R for over a year now and haven’t had a single issue from all the comments on the forums. Serviced, full extras pack from KTM. Read all the reviews before buying it and changed things like the CAT before riding it, so no shock overheating, new muffler just for sound and weight saving. Full Rottweiler air cleaner as I live in Mongolia and ride mostly dirt.
Ride the wheel off it and happy. It’s an electronic bike so I never hit the starter until it has completed the full cycle. One issue I am concerned about is the key and security ring on the ignition. Not happened yet but my main concern. Looking into a spare maybe because the rides in Mongolia are remote…. Thanks for your review.
There are plenty like yours that seem to go the distance but sadly not mine!
I have a 23' R and have had so far 2 of the known issues. 1st, the front tire would not hold air. Dealer replaced it with my choice Dunlop Trailmax Mission no charge, but I was without the bike for a week. Then the front end got loose, but it wasn't that way initially. Instead of taking it in to the dealer and losing another week I set it back to specs using the repair manual. These are KTM problems, but they are also dealer problems. You typically pay a prep fee, and these known issues should have been checked and addressed before the bike was ever delivered.
My previous bike was a 2012 KTM 690 Enduro R and it had initial problems as well, but after fixing those it went for 12 years no issues. I think you need to be competent at doing your own maintenance if you're going to go for a KTM. I knew all of this going in, and I like to tinker and modify, so I'm fine with it.
For me the requirement to keep repairing a new 10k bike is just unacceptable
These are very expensive bikes to necessitate becoming a DIY mechanic before the warranty runs out 🤔

Hi, I rented a Duke 890 and had a lot of fun!! Very much. But,... I'm mainly afraid of cams. The seller also confirmed the bad cams. KTM doesn't even communicate with dealers. At least in the Czech Republic. There are really a lot of these disorders. Otherwise, a top bike for me, it's a shame about the quality. So he will be Japanese again.
When these bikes are working they are best in their Class.... Sadly they dont seem to work well for long making them Bottom of my to own list
Sad to hear your issues. I’ve had mine since December last year and have around 1,500 miles in (time pressures prevented more). I can honestly say it’s superb and no breakdowns. The main stand is losing it’s paint and the alarm LED has ceased to work but these will be dealt with by my dealer (as in I won’t be fobbed off with BS). When I rode the demo bike there was a clunk from the steering head but not on mine with twice the mileage. I’m sticking with mine but I need reliability above all. Woe betide any issues!
I did nearly the 1500 miles in 20 days so maybe my issues came to light faster than others, but these are not standards we should be accepting on a new motorcycle. The fear of what’s next to go wrong is constant with these
@@ontheroadadventure So true although I moved from BMW for much same reason. My aim is to keep my 890 and have a decent main dealer. KTM certainly have to up their game and for me reliability is key and king.

I had a 790 '19, ride it 15000km with just loose steering bearing at one point, did fix it myself, it's very easy on this bike if you have a stand. My dealer offer me a good deal to swap it for a 21' 890 three years ago, the bike has 30.000km now, but have had numerous small problems with it, always fixed under warranty : clutch switch, timing chain tensioner (2 times), cooling fluid leak due to hose clamp breakage, cooling thermostat stuck wide open (bike did not warm). valve clearance has been done at the 30.000km service and camshaft are OK, I was reassured since camshaft issue seems common on this bike. Like it's been said, KTM quality is not close to Japanese, but the real problem is the 890 is the only bike that give me smile when I ride it, T7 and desertX are good bike, but none give me the pleasure the 890 give me. For the record, I always respect warming time, and proceed to oil and filter change every 5000km. KTM 15000km oil change interval is a (bad) joke.
For me, id take reliability over performance, What good is a adventure bike we cant trust to take on an adventure... T7 or Africa twins for me
Very interesting. 7-8 years, and 20K miles, on a '15 1290 Super Adventure with not a single issue.
The older models seem to have been ok, I saw some high mileage KTMs for sale but only ever old models. The newer ones have a terrible reputation, I was warned but wanted it to be good so bad I took the gamble and of course lost

My 2023 KTM 890 Adventure: First shipped bike arrived with no windshield and a leaking rear shock. Then upon running heat cycles, a leaking water pump. Then when I went to pic k it up it showed an abs error and a bad battery. Ktm generously gave me the tech pack for free for the 6 week delay. Then the dealer got a different bike, same model and sold me that unit. Clutch switch fell off in my driveway. So no cruise control or ability to start in gear. Waiting several weeks for replacement part. Front wheel bouncy at 65 to 75 km/h. Had front wheel rebalanced, but problem not fixed. I swapped out the stock tire and the problem went away. Dealership newbie told me nothing wrong with cruise and wheel and tried to charge me almost $400 for warranty issues. Now having cold start trouble, stalling repeatedly and running in 1 cylindar. Dealership says bad gas, Gas station denies responsibility. Now stuck with a $680.00 bill. That, my friend, has been my KTM ownership experience. I hope that is the end of my troubles because the bike performs like bithing else.
I am sorry to hear of your experience too… I find it so shocking that this can be happening and so frequently. I’ve no idea why KTM would think this a acceptable level of quality or service. I for one will never buy KTM again and will always advise others against it too.

Sorry to hear about your problems it certainly won’t help ktm sales if this goes on, I’ve had issues to :- rear brake binding which I ended up fixing myself, brake fluid leaking from the cap but only tiny bit for first 600
Miles,,again tiny leak from rear damper now ok. But my biggest problem with the bike wind buffeting.
I think I’ve mentioned all this before, but new to the list handle bar wobble at high speed it’s happened twice it doesn’t worry me as it settles quickly I put it down to tires as my Ducati scrambler 1100 did the same until I changed to Pirelli angel that solved it.
You would have thought ktm would take the odd production bike off production every so often and put it through its paces for thousands of miles to find and fix issues, if not then they need to start quickly. On a positive note ktm have developed an amazing do it all bike, they just have to finish it off.
I’m afraid it feels like as a consumer KTM just don’t care, not for the quality of the product, the customers happiness or even safety. If I owned KTM I would be ashamed of myself. Check your head brace bearing for the handle bar wobble, mine was not even hand tight after two inspections
What's with European brands? Same story with Land Rover. Amazing designs; amazing performance; amazing functionality... and crappy manufacturing and build quality! Yet consumers crave them like food rations during the Depression! That's why they don't seem to do barely enough to address the issue. Instead they spend the reserve funds on marketing to further build their brand equity, which is what they're REALLY selling you. Stop buying KTM and see how their quality will surpass their Japanese counterparts! They will adopt the Kaizen philosophy before the next sunrise.
@@TerryMasri I completely agree with you. Id love it if Yamaha took the 890 and remade it but with proper Jap Reliability and quality standards
I have a float charger that connects to the battery via a two pin connector and use it every time I park my KTM. I have used these on all my bikes for decades. They cost $6 at Harbor Freight and burn $10 electricity/year. Batteries last years longer and no nasty surprises.
This is great if you leave your bike for a few days at a time, mine went dead after a few hours from the previous ride and the bike was only a couple weeks old.

You should have rejected the bike as not fit for purpose.
The dealer has one go at fixing it.
I did this with a Honda due to engine vibrations.The dealer didnt want to play ball.I had a talk with a solicitor who said you either get another bike or your money back,they got me a new bike.The bike had done 190 miles!!!
This is what I did I asked for a full refund but in the meantime I would continue my reviewing of the ownership experience… they collected it the next morning from me 🤣
Sorry to hear you are regreting your purchase. I have one, only with 800 miles on, and so far, so good.
I’ve got rid now I’m afraid, I had so many problems with mine in the first 1500 miles over 20 days, sadly I had no faith left in the bike or KTM

@@user-bv7pf3lz4e Hi. Sure...now I´m 10.000Km (about 6.200 miles) and so far, so great in terms of fun and riding features! I have to say....the small issues you hear that are pretty normal, I have one: moister in the front liquid container.
My TFT is ok (no humidity inside).
I was thinking about buying a 790 adventure just last week. Even took a test ride.
Then I went home and started looking at reviews and UA-cam videos...
I did the same but didn’t heed the warning! This was the result 🤣
This is extremely disheartening to hear. I had my heart set on the KTM 890 Duke R, and after watching this video, many others like it, and reading several forums have decided not to give KTM my business. It's one thing to have a few niggles, but this is just outright dangerous. Stay safe sir!
Well im afraid it is a sad, but smart choice to swerve the KTM if reliability is something you Value. I tried to look past the negativity, i really wanted it to be good but as you can see from my short ownership experience the KTM Brand really let me down and i will never have another. Do you know what you will look at instead?
@@ontheroadadventure really it’s a toss up between Yamaha mt09sp and Triumph street triple rs. Going to test ride both and see who comes out on top! Suzuki gsx8s is also a consideration
@@bas7a881 I had the MT09 tracer for 3 years, absolutely loved that bike and nothing went wrong in the 30 odd k miles I did with it
There is power for accessories at the front behind the headlight. Same as rear both work fine.
Unfortunately the ones on my bike had no power to them, checked fuses etc was like they just were not wired in
@@ontheroadadventure You needed someone who was mechanically sound to walk you through this bike. It seems like picking nits is your lot in life.
My 2021 890R had twelve issues, including leaving me stranded in the desert when the ignition stopped connecting to the ECU. The front brake would lock up after hard breaking, it leaked coolant etc. I replaced it with a 2023 890R and that come from the factory with the front end loose. So I sold it and will be buying a T7, I will never own a KTM Adventure bike again.
Wow that is shocking, sounds like a real death trap. How on earth are they still in business?! I also abandoned my KTM and tried the T7 but I preferred the Africa twin as I wanted cruise control for touring but the T7 will definitely have the reliability factor
@@ontheroadadventure KTM must be burning a lot of customers, I have had six KTM Adventure bikes and to be fair, the 1090 was bombproof with zero issues in over 30k miles. But these 890 have totally burned me, so it will be a T7 or a Triumph 900 next. Good luck with your KTM!

That is a crying shame after spending premium. Every year the bike press tell us KTM poor reliability/quality is a thing of the passed but it obviously isn’t judging by your experience.
I really wanted to believe in the KTM on paper it’s a fantastic bike, good power and handling with all the weight low down but the reality is it’s reputation for poor build quality and reliability has been well and consistently earned.

the other day i saw people commenting CF MOTO made KTMs could be more reliable than those assembled in Austria

its ridiculous how many people complain yet add its great bike when its working
Its like they made some reliable bikes and intentionally terrible ones somehow through horror strories keeping them relevant while commonly/mutually known as fun bike manufacturers
The 890 R was going to be my first new bike for years, been planning to buy one very soon. But I think you might have put me off KTMs. Thanks for the info.
It’s a shame, I wanted mine to be as good you did but I ignored the warnings and my own brain I took the gamble….. I lost! What will you consider instead?
@@ontheroadadventure I really don't have a clue! At 54, I'm definitely done with IL4 sportsbikes now, and the 890 is the only alternative that gets me excited. It ticks so many of the right boxes that I never really considered anything else. In reality I'd probably be just as happy with an MT09 but it would feel like a compromise. Chances are I'll go for the Duke and just pray I get a good one!
I had the MT09 Tracer and it was an amazing bike. Plenty enough fun power and still has the reliability. I think it would be a great choice

I've just found you guys,I've got a 790 its done three batteries and on its second screen just waiting for its third screen.
Also had issues with fluid leak like yours from brake fluid and the worst I my eyes was front disc had a bad loose disc after 1500 miles rejected under warranty 500 pound later also USE ENGINE BREking and rear brake wasn't impressed everything else has been amazing

Hmm... Looks lile they're having QA issues. Maybe that's also why they're eating cams. A bad head casting could easily result in a partially blocked oil passage that ends up under-oiling a cam lobe. Or a fully blocked one.
There reputation has taken a huge hit the last few years, my experience was not good and I was glad to get rid of
@@ontheroadadventure Yeh, the fuch up is the fuch up, but the way they've uhh... "handled" the issue is what sealed it for me. I'm glad I didn't buy one the last time around and I don't think I'll be considering KTM or associates the next time. So disappointment 😮💨

I'm wondering if these defects are from the factory or the dealership. Also, by the look of the windshield, is that an older model? 2023 890 Adventure should have the slotted screen. I've just run mine in and it's a peach. Compared to running in the Guzzi which was a nightmare, it's been flawless. The gearbox is slick, the quick shift is a doddle, the bike's been well put together and here on mainland Europe you get a 4 year warranty. I had electrical problems with a Kawasaki ZZR I ran about 30 years ago but bit was down to my having fitted an alarm and kill-switch at home. Might the battery problems you're having be connected with the satnav you installed? I'm a bit wary of Internet polls on bike reliability because anyone with problems inevitably posts, but the vast majority of people who have good relationships with their bikes probably don't bother. That likely gives a skewed picture of otherwise healthy bikes. Here in Madrid there's a fiercely loyal KTM scene, and there's a local couple who both ride 890 Adventures all over Europe, and regularly put their video blogs up. They've gone through several over the years and haven't mentioned any problems. I feel you may have been unlucky, but once the teething woes are sorted under warranty, you'll probably have a rock solid and bloody exciting bike for many years to come. I know one rider who put 100 000 trouble-free km on his 790 Adventure. By the way, six months after buying the Guzzi I was that annoyed with its roughness while running in, that I'd have happily sold it and bitten the loss. Fortunately, I stuck with it, and now I love it, and still use it on a daily basis. I hope you can get your confidence back in your bike, because I honestly think it's a work of genius.
This is a 23 plate but 2022 model bike. I never found out if the Electrical problems were due to the manufacture or the dealership, Certainly the leaking Brake Res is a well know and common issue to KTM, Clearly a dangerous fault that you would expect to be a recall - but still has not been (ive no idea what they are waiting for). The loose headbrace bearings should have been checked by the dealer at both the PDI and first service but was picked up at neither. The Battery is just poor qulaity and reported numerous times online

A headset bearing is easily adjusted and any new bike that has a headset will need an adjustment. Leaking brake reservoir on 890? Never heard of it. Its a reservoir like any other, KTM didnt build it.
You "dont know" if a dealer caused problems or KTM....really? You didnt find out. The battery in my 890 is 3 years old and is fine, its a battery like any other. Your living online is what it sounds like, scanning for problems.
Just go ride, the 890 is a great bike!
@@bradsanders6954 Have a look at any used 890 at the redo our cap and you’ll see the stains from the leaking fluid. For me a brand new bike that’s had a pdi and 600 mile service in a week should not need me to be carrying out repairs. Shocking build quality. I think some people do get lucky and others make excuses for the brand because truthfully we want the bike to be good… when it’s running it’s probably the best in its class, but it’s also a liability in my opinion and not a machine I’d ever think of taking on any kind of adventure again. This is just my experience and opinion, if yours is good for you then that is awesome 👍
@@ontheroadadventure You need a V-Strom, a totally non involving bike that is just an appliance. A "leaking reservoir cap" and you lose your mind. "shocking build quality"....get a strom.

I also had the problem with battery draining sometimes. This was a 2019 790, I traded it in before the problem got fixed, I realized I needed a lighter bike for my riding. I got the ktm 690 enduro now, perfect bike for me since I mostly ride trails close to home and commute to work
The 690 is what KTM do well, how have you found this one? Any issues? I took out the new Supermoto while this was in being fixed again and it was a hooligan!
It's a very fun bike, but I sure miss the 790 on the highway. The seat is high up and not that comfortable. But other than that I'm very happy with it, no problems so far but it doesn't have alot of miles yet. (3000km)
I don’t think these bikes are designed for high miles without maintenance, we ride Africa twins now, great for our touring series etc
The biggest issue I've had with KTM is their dealers are terrible. Took my bike in for a routine service, got it back with the front top left panel missing and a flat battery, the bike wouldnt even start. Spoke to the dealership, next thing 2 big mechanics were in my face accusing me of lying and trying to get one over on them. I honestly thought I was about to get battered by these thugs.
Contacted KTM to complain, expecting some support, KTM washed their hands of it , stating 'dealers are franchised, and not the responsibility of KTM'
They make awesome bikes, but their after sales service and support is the worst I've come across in 44 years of riding bikes. I love my KTM, but I'll never buy another one sadly.

Will never own a ktm. I personally have had great luck with triumph with 29 k miles on my 2018 street triple with no issues and valves looked great

I've heard about delamination of the camshaft, brake discs issue and oil leaks from the cyclinder heads... that puts me off very very much. Not willing to spend any time at the dealer arguing to get them fixed under warranty.
Get yourself a T7 or Africa twin and save yourself the troubles

I was going to get a ktm 890 for my first bike because of the phenomenal suspension Ktm is known for. After doing research, i decided to buy a T7 and add aftermarket suspension.

The CFMOTO 800MT is essentially the same bike yet owners report none of these problems. Who would have thought CFMOTO would be showing KTM how it's done.
We are interested to see how they got on when people have been putting good miles on them, but your right it seems even CFmoto are better quality than KTM!
Damn. I haven't been looking at the 890 Adventure, but I am starting to get excited about the new 890 SMT. Maybe a leaky rear shock wouldn't be an issue since it's entirely different suspension, but I bet the brake issue is similar, and it sounds like KTM reliability is about the same as I've ever heard. I've heard on the older kick start dirt bikes, KTM stands for Kicking Till Monday. That's a shame. Maybe I'll have to give up and go for the Ducati.

Issues like this after 20 days on an expensive bike like this. Come on KTM get a grip. I do have a 390 Duke and no problems in two years of ownership to be fair though.

Have an evolving buying nightmare here trying to get hold of the new 790. Dealer agreed a deal on a trade in, and I handed in my deposit. With a couple of days to they've massively reduced the offer to a take it or leave it (not sure if they'll try to withhold my deposit now that I'll rightly pull out).
RUN! They have already shown you how you will be treated. Get your deposit back and quit whilst ahead is my advice
Leaking reservoir in 890 adventure 2023, the new model. Also 790 2020 replaced by this one, same issue, reported several times to dealer without proper fixing. Master reservoir is made by J. Juan, an Spanish company, maybe KTM should change provider.
I think the fact that they have not done something about it just demonstrates that they simply do not care about the quality of their products or safety of the customers
I seriously want a KTM but I commute 300-400 miles a week and I just cannot bring myself to buying one for fear of being let down. Such a shame.

The Tenere I sat on and knew I’d be regretful. I’m 5ft 9 so, although not impossible by any means, I’d never truly be comfortable. Awesome machines. I’d also want a bit more grunt. If they ever bring out a 900cc version I’d think about it again but then it would completely go against the intended use of the masterpiece (being so off-road oriented!)…
The Africa twin is my cup of tea. I’d put up with the height and adapt for that machine but it’s out of my price range :( for now at least…
I’m now looking at a Yamaha Tracer 9 Or an MT09. The child in me is telling me MT10 but realistically, it’s never going to be a good choice!

Your 2 inches taller than me, and Im taller than Ewa, i ride my AT with the seat in the high position so youd be fine for height. Tracer 900 is an amzing machine, i had the 2017, you want to buy from the first GT version onwards as the suspension was much better
I'm less ashamed of having to change the seal on the fork of my Africa Twin after 30,000 km, nothing else other than the tires and oil. still on the same driving chain

I crashed mine into a 44 ton lorry and it was fine , only issue I had was warped discs and put right in 48 hours.

Had a 1290sas for 3 years, lots of electrical issues. Loved the bike and KTM treated me really well but lost faith in the bike
Its such a shame, when going they are great but as you say, you just cant have any faith in the bike and that ruins everything....
There are a couple wires just below the rear of seat that are on the auxiliary power circuit. Mine had the protective boot slid back and it was shorted to ground popping the fuse. I slid the boot back into place and wound a little bit of electrical tape around them for good measure and haven't had a problem since. The reservoir lid looked aftermarket, sooooo, hmm. I've been a professional tech at manufacturer dealerships for many years and I've never been without work. You have a machine, and machines have problems. The 890 is easily a "top of the line machine". A dead battery and the reasons for it are all easily diagnosed, if your repair shop can't figure it out it's time for a different tech. Either way give them a fair chance.
I got rid of this bike in about 10 days of ownership. Endless problems from a brand new machine, gone for the more reliable Honda Africa Twin

I have the Norden 901 which is essentially the same bike and haven't had any problems other than that shorted wire and a coolant leak, both of which I took care of myself. I don't think I could ever give up the power and agility that the 890 and 901 offer. I have the KTM 690 with zero problems.

@@howlinhog Absolutely, that little trials bike seat on a T7, no space to even put a real seat, it doesnt hold enough gas, its way top heavy, T7 makes 65HP on a good day, the suspension needs a complete re-do for off road..................1 ride on a 890R and any thoughts of a T7 were gone.My 890 has been 100% trouble free for 18,000 miles, its a rocket on dirt or pavement. 550 mile days are easy.

I had a 990 adventure, when it worked it was great,but it had terrible build quality and reliability. I swapped it for a f800gs, also shabby build and reliability. Now got a t700 which is basic but awesome and utterly reliable.
I think you made a good choice, Yamaha T7 will go on forever! If only Yamaha made the 890 Adventure!
TFT condensation from new, bike unusable in the rain. 18 months and still Ktm has not replaced the part. Qc issues, break fluid leaks, excessive vibrations on the steering and pegs. Bike excels in the dirt but I have little faith in its reliability. Huge drop in quality from my 1090R which was an Austrian bike. Ktm is now a Chinese bike and having waited 18 months for a reliable TFT screen I’m done with them
Sorry to hear you have had the KTM Experience, the TFT is another common issue and they will not replace it. Awful product followed by awful Aftercare was my experience too

I think from my experience of owning the bike only 20 days that the Honda would be a better option if you require any real level of quality or reliability for your money. Definitely a learning curve for me! I just hope the dealer can refund the money in a good timely manner to put the whole experience behind me.

Thats good and i hope it continues for you. I intended to use my bike for adventure as the name suggests, but theres no way id go ride my KTM on a local adventure let alone to Morocco for example. I did 22k miles on my triumph in 12 months - KTM 890 adventure would never make it lol
I've owned a 300TPI and a 790 Adventure. 4000 on the TPI and no issues, 6000 on the 790 again no problems. Sounds like most of the issues highlighted are due to poor PDI by Dealer. I wouldn't hesitate to get any KTM.

Those are minor thinks that i can do them by myself ... I own 2T 250 enduro KTM and is perfect ... I do maintenance, and piston, fork internals etc, so those issues on 890 is not hinder me to buy one .... or maybe wait one year for 990 Adventure 👍
The thing is though, we should not be paying 10k for new motorcycles that immediately need consistent repairs. KTM need to do better
My wife's 23 890 adventure leaks as well. I am almost sure my 2022 has leaked. It is terribly sad. Ktm could have the entire market rapped if they fixed such easily solved problems and stood behind their bikes.
They have numerous problems that are so common it’s just unbelievable, how do they get it so wrong? A real shame but I have no faith left in the brand and will never buy another KTM
KTM might well stand behind their machines but he I’d dealing with an importer, when I worked for BMW I actually worked for Pride and Clarke the Sarf’ London Dealer of dodgy bikes who were known as BMW Concessionaires and had a load of cheap scam going with the car division, they lost it all after BMW themselves took over, before them I was at Toyota Concessionaires and the same was there. Scam scam scam.
I have 11,000 miles on my 890 ADV-R. No problems.
Did you check your fuses ( in-line?) regarding your under seat power wires?
Seems some are lucky some are not! Yes I checked fuses etc. I don’t know what the issue was but so many on a brand new bike is unbelievable. I only did 1500 miles in about ten days to discover the problems I did. That was enough of the KTM ownership experience for me 😂
I have the 2023 Adventure 890R and so far the only big issue is the leaking Mitas E07+ front tire ( known issue as well, no replacement tires available ATM ). Unfortunately I crashed it end of May and I'm not able to ride it for a couple of months. The bike has been completely fixed. The crash was my fault though, but 2 weeks before my crash, I almost lost the front end on a roundabout, finding out upon my arrival at home, there was less than 1 bar left in the front.
One other small little thing I noticed, my battery dropped to 12.9Volt, and it would not start any longer after like 2 months not using it. So now I'm using an Optimate charger to keep my battery at the normal Voltage.
Sorry to hear of your accident. Yes the front tyre not holding air is another very common issue with the 23 models, battery problems again are common, also keep checking your headstock bearings

@@dawn-moon It’s something you’ll want to learn, not a difficult job but very important on these. Another give away for loose head stock bearings if your up to it is when you let go of the handlebars you should see no vibration in the bars, if they start to wobble you know you have the problem. Not the most sensible way to check but effective!
servus! my ktm 890R '21 now got 18tkm on the clock and it was pure fun. there was a tiny leakage of the front brake reservoire (some drops) the first time i laid it on the ground but it didn't reoccur (??). after decent offroad usage including multiple light crashes and longer distance adv trips i had no major issues at all. sometimes the display went black, lets say 10 times so far. doesn't do anything to the bike in terms of riding functionalities, just goes black and is fixed with a restart. not cool but not really impairing. it's a known issue. as well as sometimes the display has issues with condensation water which happened once to me (mild case). Wether i'm a lucky guy or you are an unlucky one, i can't decide. what i can say is that this bike is the most fun bike i've ever ridden and the stock performance in terms of suspension, motor, punch, electronics, crash resilience, offroad capabilities and handling hardly has any competitor and at least the T7!
I agree the 890 for performance is probably the best in its class but this idea of accepting known issues and faults, many niggles and problems is just not good enough from a new bike and from what i used to consider a main reputable brand. For me, it’s just not good enough. Some have been lucky though and had good ones that go on to do good miles, but this does seem to be the exception to the rule unfortunately

My 2022 890 had electrical issues at 2,500 miles next in around 40 degrees it’s the old hard to start issue and when it starts it’s running on one cylinder deal and finally I was loosing water from my reservoir I looked down into my oil fill hole and there was a sludge starting to build up I removed some oil sent it to a lab and it came back positive for antifreeze I took the oil sample paper work to my KTM dealer they rode it around town and told me it didn’t use and water so I contacted KTM so make a long story short KTM told me the bike was fine just ignore the oil sample and ride it I will never own another KTM there warranty is a joke.

As a moto mech,i would buy the 950s-990s.Not the newer ones.Also i would add thet from around 2010 onwards,bikes generaly became more complicated/fragile than the older models,and some manufacturers seem to strugle with parts availability

Actuallywe have 790 2019 and 890 2023 at home, and both are sharing most of yours issues... These are probably last KTMs we bought... I am also very pissed by the low quality. I will probably trade it with tenere ore something after a few years... who knows..

Been thrashing my T7 for 8-9months is been absolutely faultless and it saved me from walking away from motorcycling as the KTM put me off all together literally was selling up and luckily I got a test ride on a T7 and I continue to invest in this industry and support local dealers and aftermarket bling, but I will not support or invest in ktm and that’s a massive loss to not only them but the small guys who make a living machining and fabricating components, I actually put a short review together I shall post it soon it was spur of the moment and my GoPro is not set up well but hopefully it gives you an idea of the incredible T7👌🏻

I bought in April a new 890 Adventure but the 2022 model, when i picked up at the dealer, didn't start the motor, only at thirth attempt started, in that day all was in order, but...the next day didn't start anymore, to resume the story it was battery problem like i always said to them, but they said it was ok in the tests, after 2 weeks the bike in workshop they finally say was a battery issue and gave a new one! I have lost to many time and money in travels because this issue!! But at this moment is all good no more issues.
Sorry to hear about your experience aswell, the battery is yet another common issue, most owners replace this themselves. But ofcourse having just paid over 10k for a new bike you should not be having to upgrade parts just to get it started! I hope you get away with not having too many more of the common faults on the ktm 890 adventure
@@ontheroadadventure Yes you are complet right, don't have any logic me or others customs to buy a new battery at the 2° day of having the bike, but to be honest it would have been cheaper for me if I had done it, it would have saved a lot of wasted time and hassle.

On the 19th June I got my brand new 890adv 2023. 17th July had a major failure the bike stalled on an A road at 50 MPH. I started it again but when I slowed down in the revs it stalled again. Bike went back to dealer and they tried a number of things but could not find the issue. Fortunately KTM have agreed to replace the bike with a new one. Bikes can go wrong it’s the follow up from the manufacturer that’s key and KTM have stepped up.
Good service from your dealer this time. Hopefully your replacement will do a bit better for you. How many miles had it done?

It's so disappointing to see issues still going on dad and I bought 2x KTM 390 Adventures brand new for a trip to Norway an I had months of battle to reject the bikes for refund, we had issues with both bikes,
Bike one my dad's,
Fly by wire faults, Corrosion on a brand new bike, tft display issues, filling with that much condensation once the weather turned living at altitude (cat and fiddle) you couldn't read the display it had that much condensation, would stall going from 3rd to 2nd. Both wheels would go flat within 8 hours (fixed that)
On mine I found one of the side panels had a broken press in lug, the same tft issues as my dad's which was a big issue for me riding in winter over average camera zones.
Ktm wouldn't help at the time they don't cover the displays in the warranty book eventually the dealer did the right thing an gave us a refund.
The other one was both bikes had completely different levels of base vibration dad's was smooth mine was coarse.
Real shame as they were exciting to ride, I've had the Himalayan also a nightmare an managed to get my money back n the dealer completely agreed, 300 Rally typical Honda although the shock was soft really enjoyed that n now I'm on an 1150gsa because I can work on it myself. Its good to see others calling out these issues as they are commonplace. Personally i dont know why us motorcyclists put up with it my dads car has done 80k milss no issues n when he used to have a focus that did 210k. An my japanese bikes have all been trouble free.
Its a real shame as i enjoyed the ktm riding wise but when problems start with the electronics its a nightmare on these modern bikes.

With the problems you’ve described/experienced and also had feedback from other KTM owners. It sounds like to me; that your problem isn’t the bike…. the problem is the dealership that sold you the bike. I own a 2021 KTM 890S and I love my bike. The dealership I bought mine from has a good reputation for being/staying informed on negative customer complaints from KTM that they look out for the problems that you experienced and corrects them before the bike is sold to a customer. Let me had add that I did experience a couple of problems and they didn’t start until about 4 months of ownership and by then, I already had about 2500 to 3000 miles on the bike. There was a couple of times that I was going to work at 4 o’clock in the morning and after riding for about 15 minutes. I got off the highway exit and the bike turned off on me. The first time it happened, scared the crap out of me. Another experience I had and it also happened about 2 or 3 times. Getting on the highway, I was upshifting from 5th to 6th gear and the it wouldn’t go into 6th gear. It would sit there and making a grinding noise, but as soon as I eased off the throttle, it would go into 6th gear. All of the sudden a few months went by and it dawned on me that I hadn’t experienced any of those issues. I took my bike to the dealership and I told them about it and they were baffled and said they never heard of those issues. I chalked it up to me probably doing something wrong. Now I’m in love with my bike again.
Wow sounds like you did have some problems with yours too that could have made a very different situation. 2500 miles is very new for me, I do around 22k miles a year so I guess I was likely to discover my bikers issues faster than others. For a premium priced bike KTM build quality is just not up there with the big jap brands and if they don’t do something about it very soon they will surely be left behind
What a dog. I was toying with the idea of an 890. Not going to happen now. I gather they’re not exactly into customer care either. But the steering head bearing really should have been picked up at the first service even if it was missed during PDI.
Yes I agree, we pay too much for a first service which is just a quick oil change and supposedly look over the bike but I suspect it’s £250 for a £40 oil change. An accident waiting to happen, two dangerous faults on the bike and two quality control issues had me run from the KTM brand.
That's very disappointing. My own KTM and my brothers KTMs, all two stroke enduros, seem to be reliable fortunately. No worse than our japanese ones at least. Hope the company sorts any quality issues out.
Only yesterday we met a lady on her travels on her KTM 790 and she had a endless list of problems with a hers too, all of which I spoke about and many more

Minor issues mate. Videos like this are just bonkers. Just stop it. I had a Crf250l that almost killed me because of the lack of grease on the steering head bearings (COMMON ISSUE). Starter relay left me stranded and made the starter crank on its own. I made it in time to disconnect the battery terminals or else the starter would have been fried.

I own a DRZ400s and one of the things about it is that I trust it with my life. I'll go out alone in the desert and ride without worrying if it will break down. It's slow, and weak at highway speed so I was thinking of the T7 or the 890 for my next bike. I think you just sold me on the T7...

I had a DRZ, the top end wore out way too quick, but was cheap to replace, it always used oil no matter what was done. The handling and suspension were atrocious , and total wobble box when pushed hard off road. But for you its the best bike ever. Other than the slow and weak part.
This guy in this video is trying to scare people away from the 890, in reality my 890R is the funnest bike Ive ever owned in a long career on bikes. Its the best. totally trouble free.

I've had my 890R since May and have over 11,000 km with no problems. I previously had a 790R for 4 years and 30.000 trouble free km. KTM builds great bikes
There are some good ones it seems, but it seems usual that KTMs are generally low mileage bikes, 30k km is about year one for us
Indeed, I am on my third KTM, 1290 SDGT, 390 Duke, 890R and have experienced no issues whatsoever over 30,000 miles. The kinds of things you are describing are without question an issue with the people who KTM pays to do a job - first with the folks who without question are well paid to properly assemble, and verify it is able to meet the design specifications. Then on to the dealer who is tasked with preparing the bike for delivery. Obviously the assembly process was flawed as well as the follow up and you wind up with problems that should never have been. It is import to breakdown issues to determine the scope. Ask yourself - was it a bad design? Was it a poorly manufactured part? Was it assembled according to spec? Was it inspected to verify before you leave the dealership?
The fact that (for the most part) we love their bikes! Is a testament to the first point - it most probably is designed very well indeed. Finally, if we are aware of possible issues via a reasonable due-diligence process and WE fail to check things out a bit before we ride, then, we also have a responsibility that cannot be dismissed.
No machine is perfect, but a machine that is special deserves its best chance - by EVERYONE who comes into contact with it to SHINE up to its potential. Reality check - what’s the alternative? An “appliance” that is as dependable as sin! No thanks 🤔
@@jeschuitema I do agree the dealer had a big part to play in this, the bike was PDI before collection and 600 mile service done a few days later, you’d have thought some of the issues would have been picked up and dealt with. Having said that, look on the forums or just the comments here and you’ll find hundreds of people with the same bikes and same issues no matter which dealer it comes from. There’s no doubt to me KTM has terrible build quality and il never buy one again.

This is a brand new bike that had two inspections from the dealership within a week. There really is no excuse for such a poor quality product at a premium price bracket and definitely no excuse for poor inspection by the dealership.
I am currently having a lawyer help with a lemon law. If you have the no start issue, would you mind getting in touch? Not only do I want to help myself, but I want to gather data and get a potential class action going. Dealers do not help and I’m stuck paying diag fees over and over again and KTM does nothing. I have video proof too! It’s such a shame
Sorry to hear of your problems too. I’m lucky I managed to shout loud enough to make them to my bike back as was within the 30 days period. I suspect they were so keen to take it from me because of the videos I was making on it
I realise this video is about the 890, but it's practically the same bike as the 790, from what I can gather, plus my rant is about KTM, in general more than anything😅.
I've been so pumped since I made the decision to go for the 2023 790 Adventure r, - over the last couple weeks; it looks awesome and is capable both on and off road- I'm my mind that's exactly what I've been after, but I've found so many videos saying stuff like this one; that is has reliability problems and weak points, and it seems like its with many different components on these bikes.
That has almost deflated my interest tbh!
Plus the issues that multiple people have reported with KTM dealerships(me included this very day), and the way KTM gives you a "taster period" with all the electrical add ons, that vanish after a certain amount of miles- making you have to buy them to have them on the bike after the trial period has ended!
That kind of money-grabbing business model doesn't sit well with me at all, in fact it pisses me off.
Not impressed with what I'm hearing about KTM at all. Might just have to fuck them off, and go with a more reliable and reasonable Japanese brand, or even a Triumph.

I think I'll probably go for the 2023 Honda Transalp 750, then. It's a shame it has the tubed wheels, but so does the new Suzuki 800DE; which was the other option, but that's substantially more heavy than the Tranny750. Nothing will be absolutely perfect, but at least they'll almost certainly be more reliable than the Orange company that I will not name anymore.😂 All the best mate, Thanks for the reply 👍
@@CommonLoon would you not consider a Africa twin 1100 instead of the Transalp? You can get a real nice low mileage used one with all the tech and gear at 10k
@@ontheroadadventure Honestly not considered a used bike yet tbh, don't know why not though! I'm open to anything within my budget and that type of machine; an on-road bike with the capability of taking a few off-road routes here and there, but I really don't know what to look for when buying second hand, I suppose a quick youtube education on the subject would do- it's definitely not off the cards. But I've only been riding a few years, so was thinking a ~200kg middle weight bike like the 790 Adv, or the Transalp would be the wise option, rather than with a massive machine like the AT, I haven't even sat on one yet, but like I say; I'm open to the idea, and I'll definitely have a look, cheers dude.

The manual version I reckon, it's beautiful, sounds awesome, and has litteraly everything you could think of, and for the extra ~£3k it's next level compared to the Transalp.. Shame about the inner tubes with the non sport version, but irrelevant really. If I can't find a second hand one, I'm gonna have to get it new. Worth it though. Stunning bike.

That’s only 9000 miles, a T7 owner ( long haul Paul) has covered over 180 000 miles with no issues.

Yeah it seems like these 790/890s are a little bit of hot mess (and I own one). Kind of a DYI endeavor. Just got my bike back from the dealer after asking them to look at three issues. The quickshifter was re-calibrated (seems ok), the steering head is looser than when I took it in (I usually take care of this myself, and this is why, but she was going in anyway to have the QS looked at), and there's a new clunk from somewhere which just elicited shoulder shrugs. You have to be your own mechanic with these things, it seems. FWIW, I've had three 1290s and, aside from minor issues and repeatedly loosening steering heads, no major issues.
These should come with an advisory sticker and a free set of tools! Great when working right though! How long have you had yours?

I'm not a biker but I'd like to be one day. So why can't you just take the bike back to the dealer with the list of your issues and be like fix it?
I returned it under my consumer rights and got a full refund as was within the 30 days before I had enough it it. Worse bike I ever owned
Got a brandnew 2022 ktm 790 adv R here in the Philippines on sale. Its 3,400 usd cheaper than the T7 here. I duno if its still worth it than buying a T7, but dont have an issue yet.

Mine lasted me 10 days 1200 miles I believe with so many failures they came to take it from me before I made more reviews 🤣 We went for Honda Africa twins after that! T7 though is a excellent choice

Yes mine was 22. The 23 has its own host of problems. Those can’t even keep the air in its front tyre 😂

I’m assuming you have a 2023 model? My 2020 to 890 adventure R has had none of those issues at all. I think a lot of it comes down to who builds the bike once it ships in.
Mine was a 23 plate but 22 model. Partially you may be right, certainly the headstock bearing should have been checked by the dealer high at PDI and first service, the electrical problems is just poor quality and the leaking brake fluid is also a common dangerous fault the KTM are aware of and have not yet recalled

Good grief what an experience you have had, and to have others experience the same issues and KTM not doing anything about it, is a disgrace and shows lack of quality control and customer support to resolve the issues.
Hope your next bike whatever it maybe, does not give you a bad experience.

Thanks Peter, Shame on KTM this should at the least be a recall on the brake master cylinder leaking like that. A accident waiting to happen. There’s simply no excuse for the headstock bearing being loose after two apparent inspections
What a shame on a otherwise great machine. As a Ktm 390 Adv owner, it seems like it’s really just a roll of the dice, some bikes are trouble free, others are just a complete nightmare. Unfortunately, Warranty repairs and customer service are typically meet with deaf ears. Hondas are sounding better all the time
Yes I agree but it’s completely unfair to the consumer to have a lucky dip when buying a 10k product! I like your thinking and I have also replaced KTM with Honda

I had heard horror stories before buying mine but i figured its probably just the unlucky few having a loud moan, but with more research and forum searching the level of problems are astounding and the poor after care service complaints seem to be just as numerous. Id be embarrassed in the biker community if that was my product. SHAME ON KTM.

I understood the 790 was made by CFMoto but the 890 was KTM?

My 2023 890 R at 5000 miles mostly off-road ridden hard with lots of after market…. ZERO issues bud…
I've got 1100 kms on my 2023 ktm and have to say - amazing bike! The only struggle is i've been riding 3, 4 and 6 cylinder bikes adjusting to the 2 cylinder is taking me a bit - just more rattly than the silky smooth than the more cylinder oriented bikes. In saying that - tons of power per weight ratio :)
When the bike is working it is fantastic! Like you I enjoyed the power to weight ration and the handling was fantastic but unfortunately mine was a lemon
It's not being a twin cylinder that's the problem, it is just that engine rattles like a bag of bolts. The T7, Suzuki 800 and Honda Transalp are mechanically smooth and quiet.
Guys don't buy ktms, then they will rapidly improve quality. If you still buy the products there is no Reason for KTM to work on it

I love the performance of ktm bikes... when it works. However, build quality is not good. Bought a bmw f850gs... no problems especially the newer models and build quality is far better.
I agree to ride I loved the KTM but after only 20 days o didn’t want to ride it anymore. I value my safety more than KTM apparently. How have you found the bmw? Done any long distance trips on it yet?
@@ontheroadadventure yup done some long rides. Never had problems even as it is about to reach 20k kms. A little bit "boring" compared to ktm but reliability is much better. And the build quality is far from ktm's

But then I had an s1000r with chocolate cams, ultimately it grenades the engine. Many bikes had the same problem for many years, point being every manufacturer has its problem bikes!! It's not just limited to KTM even the mighty BMW continue to sell bikes with known faults.
I continuously hear of issues with the 890 but not so much with the Norden 901. Is the ownership experience different for Norden owners?

6 months 5000km’s on my Expedition. Zero issues so far.

Ya KTM have been know for shocking Build quality.
I have not had any major issues with my CFMoto 650MT as of yet. (Chinese brand)
Did have to get new front brake-switch and rear indicator very recently under warranty. But still happy with my purchase. Guess cant complain at under £7000 bike and what you get with that money.
Hopefully you find more positives to overcome the negative of your bike.
Ash I think you did well with your CF Moto, the KTM 790 is now made by the CF Moto “overseen” by KTM! I let my heart rule my head on the KTM!
@@ontheroadadventure yep. KTM even distributor for CFmoto now in UK. Mine was brought before all this was sorted out. As you said, alot of KTM bikes are manufactured in CFmoto factory’s. They have a strong partnership. Currently no dealer for Cfmoto in Devon amd Cornwall. :( As CMS where got my bike from no longer CFmoto dealer as KTM wanted ridiculous sale margin and they could not meet it. SP Motorcycles not taken on CFmoto yet and not sure if they will. As they the KTM dealer as you might know already. Still be shambles with this transition from Quedzilla to KTM.
Think got my Bike at the right time before this transition started. Even raised the price of the bike and got rid of side storage boxes and think Crash Bars by default in the new 2023 model of 650MT. :( Mine 2022 model.

I would mount a small battery cut off switch it would shut the power off we use them on the race cars to cut the power...
This was just the start of my KTM problems! I’ve got rid of it now

KTM makes very good dirt bikes and that's about it.

I have a 2023 890 Adventure that has just gotten its 600 mile break-in service done. The only issue that I have had is that the front wheel has a hop at speeds between about 37-48 mph. The dealer has tried twice to balance the tire and has come to the conclusion that the tire is incompatible with the bike. I believe it is the wheel and am going to try and get it replaced under warranty. Other than that, I love the bike and have had none of the issues you have mentioned.....maybe you just got a lemon. Do they have a lemon law for motorcycles in your state?
I am in the UK and unfortunately in good company with lots of unhappy and disappointed owners, I was able to return mine under consumer rights due to numerous faults within the first 20 days. The front wheel and tyre is a common problem on the 23 model, most of them have issues keeping tyre pressure too

@@ontheroadadventure Wow, nice looking bike. The bike I had before the KTM was a 2018 BMW R1200GS. The reason I got the KTM was I was looking for something smaller and easier to move around. I must admit that I was skeptical about the reliability, but it checked all the other boxes, so I went for it. I’m beginning to wonder if I made a mistake. I’m currently working with a KTM service representative to try to get this front wheel hop issue sorted out. If not, I will be looking for another bike. If it is fixed, I will hang onto it with fingers crossed. So far, the wheel hop has been the only issue so far….other than that I’m very pleased with it.

KTM's origins date from 1934. A decade ago they were the largest motorcycle manufacturer in Europe. If now you ask 'Who owns the company?' and/or 'Where are the bikes made?' you are immediately and inextricably tangled in a bramblepatch of confusion, doublespeak and lies. Brake fluid spraying out?! Wouldn't touch one with a quick-shifting bargepole.

Sooner or later one of the myriad defects on these bikes is going to kill someone. I've had a lot of bikes in the last 60 years. Never, even on the cheapest and nastiest, have I encountered leaking hydraulics or out of true wheels on a brand new machine. Neither have I ever been expected to pay more to avoid the specification being downgraded after the bike has been paid for in full and ridden out of the showroom.
This KTM company (whoever or wherever they currently purport to be) is treading on very thin legal ice. What I also cannot understand is why so many of the professional reviewers are drooling over them. The extreme variability in opinion is bizarre. Erratic quality control?@@ontheroadadventure

in my opinion you shouldnt have to do a single thing to a brand new bike except ride it!! my 2019 1290 R has tons of little quirks and noises that im constantly checking.
I couldn’t agree more, if I wanted to be fixing my bike I’d buy a project bike
