I really enjoyed this conversation between Eddie and Ernest. Love this movie. Always enjoy hearing about something new I didn't know. Thank you TCM for posting this video!
Saw this at the Vogue Theater in Louisville, Ky., for the first time in 1979 and it immediately became my favorite movie. I kind of obsessed over it for awhile. Since then the movie has fallen a bit on my scale simply because in the following decades I saw so many more films, but the memory of seeing this in an actual theater is still a fond one. Also a big lover of Graham Greene, and have all of his novels; have read most of them.
I am sure this is in my Top 20 favorite films of all time in any genre. It is that superb. When someone tells you film-making is not an art form, you can point to this as proof that it is.
I love how they are so concerned with spoiler alerts. Means that they are a lover of movies and hold sacred the movie watching experience for those who haven't seen it.
@@Cali_Flowers And I've heard actual published writers say that they don't mind them because who cares if the story is spoiled because to them it's not important.
ALERT At 5 minutes he gave away the plot structure. This film has my favorite music score, along with Grand Illusion. Orson Welles, imo, is the crown jewel in this film.
Graham Greene and Kim Philby worked together in MI6 during WW2. In 1949, Greene wrote the screenplay, THE THIRD MAN, whose main character was "Harry Lime." The name was amalgamation: Harry was Philby's first name and "Lime" referred to Greene.
Let’s cut to the chase, try to justify ANY movie being superior ? Of course its the greatest film ever made. Name me a film with more originality ? a cleary better cast? Cleary better story line? Clearly better dialogue? More complex chapters? Clearly better cinematography? You can’t compare it with those huge budget sweeping productions like Laurence of Arabia or river kwai, and as good as godfather is (my number 2) it falls just short in virtually All categories. Der dritte Mann wins in 6 games !

Ernest Dickerson is one of the great cinematographers of all time himself! So great to hear him comment on such a spectacular film.
His film Juice has many scenes that are inspired by The Third Man and Chinatown!
@@evanward3964 Oh! I'll check that out!

Yes, me too! I hate spoilers, even for movies I’ve seen over & over again. Nothing beats the element of surprise ~ ! 🍿

And they remained in touch after Philby's defection to Russia
The 3rd Act of Dickerson’s film Juice is very similar to the sewer chase scene in The Third Man!
Scorsese clearly paid tribute to the ending in The Departed.
I like *The Third Man* better than *Citizen Kane*. There. I said it.
lol
